Bap is pretty decent into Pharah because your bunny hop allows you to jump over the roofs and harass Mercy so she can't hide from everything. Once Pharah loses her pocket she is easy kill. And it's not easy to land directs on flying around Baptiste, so that's extra benefit. On tank though... yeah things are pretty miserable outside of locking dva and marking Pharah. You can't kill her through pocket but you can at least deny Barrage and sometimes finish her off if hitscans damage her enough. On some maps I like to play Hog into Pharah but that works only against meh Pharahs that don't respect your Hook range. I can hit Pharahs out of the sky but I only have 20 meters range, if Pharah is smart she won't give me a chance to land it and will always have cooldown ready to Boop me away or to jump to dodge Hook

I agree with your opinion on pharah. I had a 5 stack of friends, and the two new players were playing Damage. They had a Pharmacy and our new players couldn't deal with them. The experienced players playing support and tank couldn't deal with them because we physically couldn't.

As Dva main on tank, this is take on Pharah is so true. At lower ranks people were also calling out saying 'you're Dva, taking out Pharah IS YOUR JOB!!!' And i'm like, yeah, I can only do so much, and I shouldn't be the ONLY one dealing with her. Sad part is that even in Plat/Diamond lobbies poeple act like it's a one person job to deal with Pharah. If we have a widow with aim that good, sure, it's a one-player job, or if they are a bad pharah, poor positioning/cooldown timing/no pocket, sure, it CAN be a one person job. But once you get up that high in rank, odds are you are no longer in that terriroty 90% of the time or more. My best example was actually on support role and NO ONE was dealing with Parah, DPS were negative KD, and when I as support went Ana to deal with her, I got low key flamed for not healing enough. Guys, if you want heals, help with Pharah! Don't be swapping to REAPER when we have pocketed pharah destroying out entire team. (seriously DPS was already 2 for 9 and swapped from torb to reaper during this game).

When have the same lived experience and pain. Played with some of my lower skilled friends and we got wrecked and I could feel the resentment about my lower heals cause they are so resource heavy when we play together but myself on ana was the only one doing anything. This happens all the time in other games too. I made some friendly suggestions but that doesn't always make things happen.

Most fun time recently was when I made a 1v5 game with buffed (x2) stats. That gave them a laugh. That said, turns out you don't need to be t500 to beat 5 bronze-gold (maybe 1 plat) player, lol.

I agree with the pharah take. The other major issue is vs pharah mercy, it can feel impossible. On a lot of maps, no matter the angle I take as sniper, Mercy never shows a single feather of her wing, and pharah plays decent cover too... until I'm dove. Pharah mercy usually displays a level of coordination my team never seems to be capable of; I played 15 games of comp (gold) and 5 games of qp in the last two days, and I had two qp games where everyone was in voice chat compared to zero comp games. Regardless; I faced pharah mercy twice in those 15 comp games, and both times I went widow/ashe. And I was able to get the occasional kill on them, but they basically never went out of cover until I was dove by ball (in one instance) or genji (in the other). Also, in neither instance was either support willing to go mercy so I could more easily take out the pharah mercy/have some healing when I was dove. In the ball game I ended up going sombra, letting me counter ball and legit get more elims on the enemy mercy than I could as widow/ashe now that I could sneak around and find where she was staying behind cover. We still lost, though.

With Kiriko and Lifeweaver in the game now, there’s actually three supports that can keep Pharah alive very easily. So if you thought Pharmercy was bad, you guys need to wait till Pharah/Zen with LW or Kiriko start getting traction.

Edit: Sombra is also very good vs Pharah if you lack the skill to consistently hit shots. Just hack her anytime she uses her jets and it messes up her momentum 9/10 times.

I don't mean to be that guy but if you're playing hitscan in gold and you can't beat a pharah mercy then you just need to practice your aim. I really am not trying to be a dick but it's that simple. I literally smoked a pharah mercy as Cassidy on my alt I was playing with friends. I don't even play Cassidy, I just have decent-ish aim. Another thing, if you're pressuring a pharah mercy to the point where they aren't peaking, then they're not getting value and that's 2 players on their team not doing anything for the price of one on yours. (You) So if that's genuinely happening to you every game (I know it isn't) then you would generally win more games than you would lose because if your team is in a 4v3 situation, they will generally be able to capitalize off of it and win the fight. If that doesn't happen then it's a team gap. Also you getting dove isn't always your teams fault, try to be aware of your positioning. Put yourself in a spot where you think it would be hard for their dive heroes to make it to you. If all else fails, ask for a pocket mercy for yourself and just duel the pharah mercy. If you're a pocketed hitscan vs a pocketed pharah you win that duel like 95 times out of 100 if your aim isn't atrocious. My best advice is if you find it hard to hit moving targets like pharah, you need to lower your sensitivity.

The reason the the pharmercy always displays a level of coordination your team doesn't is because that coordination just involves the mercy hitting one button to follow the pharah with no mechanical skill required and if Pharah gets hit just heal her and back to damage boosting. The mercy has no reason to peak because she has no reason to aim at anything. The charecter is genuinely unhealthy for the game and is what makes dealing with Pharah with projectile characters obsolete tbh.

Down where I play it seems as if Cassidys and Soldiers have a tough time trying to take me out as Pharah. Even Ashes have a hard time as well. It may be from how long I've played her on Console in OW1, and PC for OW2, but I seem to be able to easily kill them with 2/3 shots. The same can go with Anas and Baptistes as well. (This is without a Mercy pocket)

I used to also say dont pocket me, but I came to the realization that Mercy's are a stubborn creature. If you tell them not to pocket they WILL pocket you, if you demand a pocket they won't ever help you. Just use some reverse psychology.

Totally agree about Phara, even as a gm Dps. If the phara plays vertical cover properly and has a mercy it’s almost Impossible to kill her even as cass or Ashe. My best recommendation to supports is to pocket your hit scan as mercy so it’s an even playing field and pray that they’re good. Edit: for tank I would recommend going dive as Winston doom or ball and making their other supports life living hell since they won’t be getting healed as much. But it still heavily relies on your dps gapping.

On the pharah take: IMO her functioning as a check on if your DPS are competent doesn’t make her overpowered, because if they are she kinda doesn’t get to play the game, but it does make her extremely volatile and kind of poorly designed. I, and many others from what I gather, really dislike playing against the characters where you’re forced to either hard counter them or play an extremely uphill battle. (I would also say widow is a very prominent example of this archetype.)

Pharah on her own is fine but Pharmercy is OP. Even having double hitscan doesn’t guarantee killing her. If she plays cover well she won’t die often and if she does Mercy will rez her anyway. The amount of coordination it takes to beat it vs how much effort they have to put in is just bs. And if Mercy flanks with the Pharah and rocket barrages your team it can lose you an entire team fight. Oh and not to mention a single stray damage boosted rocket can kill a 200 HP hero

As an old pharah main, I feel bad for the enemy dps. It doesn't matter what they do. They will get flamed by their toxic ass team, because I just sneak up on them and kill their un-pocketed hitscan because a soldier can't do much anything against a surprise two tap. Meanwhile their support are just straight focusing their tank and not even taking a peak at me. It's crazy. Now I'm a hanzo main who literally shuts down many pharah and pharmacy's beginning of the match, but because the rest of my team can't win a 4v3, they blame me for not switching to soldier. The game's community is so toxic that all the supports/tank's need to flame their teammates, is if they see a pharah on the other team. Doesn't matter if the pharah's dead 90% of the time and having no impact on the game, they'll flame you for not switching even if you're winning. I hate this game.

12:24 Finally someone put my feelings to words, it’s not hard for dps to counter swap to deal with pharah but there are only 2 supports that can deal with her and 1 tank that can deal with her. This isn’t good for some tank and support players because you might not like their play style so you just don’t pick them, and if your dps don’t switch either then you just get rolled. I was really happy about ramatras vortex pulling them down and I still wish they made it higher so there was a way to deal with the ones at the top of the map.

About the Pharah take at the end: As someone whose favorite DPS to play is Pharah, I 100% agree. If the enemy has a Pharah, especially with a Mercy, it feels like the only way to deal with her is with hitscan. There needs to be more unique ways to deal with airborne characters, on all roles. For tank, I'd say buff Ramattra's Ravenous Vortex to have a higher vertical height so it can actually pull the Pharah down to Earth. Supports similarly need a way to deal with Pharah that isn't just playing Ana or Bap and hoping you can secure the kill before she kills you. You should never feel at the mercy of your own DPS having decent aim or actually picking hitscan in order to deal with a Pharah.

i wholeheartedly agree with the pharah stuff flats was talking about. i am a DVA player the vast majority of my (gold) games, and playing against pharah is rough. generally (not always but usually) the team with the pharah wins because generally the DPS either don't focus her and we are all blown to bits or they're playing reaper or something. it can almost feel helpless during some games, as DVA on her own against the pharah (especially with mercy pocket) it isn't the most effective, unless the supports just forget she's there and she doesn't get healed. i think she is really really strong, especially in the metal ranks against people who don't always know what to do against her (not so sure about beyond, however id imagine a GOOD pharah could definitely be as bad or worse). not to mention as flats said, the lack of tools for killing her, because as a tank, its DVA or nothing.

Flats... i can 100% confirm there are mercys & dps players that will only play comp with their duo. I feel like it's less common at the highest ranks & these types of players aren't great. Had a diamond game on my alt & apparently the mercy would ONLY heal or Rez their soldier duo. It feels more common in plat-masters where the duo players think each other are good but can't realize the true reason they are stuck in their rank

If you are a good ball, a lot of times you can make that work too... not by shooting the pharmercy, but by pressure the rest of the team. You either kill the other support/squishies, or mercy has to leave pharah & help the others leaving pharah more vulnerable. People often forget a viable way to counter pharmercy is to dominate the other 3 players & then take out the pharmercy last

I find it funny how we went for "we need to remove hard counters, so no more Cree flash for Genji and Tracer!", but Pharah is allowed to counter 80% of the roster for free. For the phar-mercy issue, it really is mercy being too strong. Unless you have 70-80% accuracy on hitscan, mercy just outheals your shots. Mercy is also almost impossible to kill because of her movement and of pharah's pressure. You hardly ever see someone play pharah without mercy, and if they do, they are usually playing on par with the other dps, so it is not a huge issue to go up against. The real problem is when the phara has a mercy pocket, and then she stomps the enemy team 9/10 games. The same thing could be said about a widow, soldier, ashe, or cass with a mercy pocket. They feel WAY too strong and demolish the enemy team with the pocket, but do average without it. Pharah is One example of mercy being unhealthy for the game is that most of the time whenever there is a mercy player around GM/top500, they literally ONLY play mercy, and their other roles are usually around gold/plat(max diamond) because they do not know how to play the game other than sit behind their dps and let them do all the work.

the tank/pharah discussion gave me an idea: it would be really cool to have a tank with an ability to cast a shield that only lasts for like half a second. A you can put in any direction, maybe at a fixed distance. And the purpose is that it's there to block KEY cooldowns. It would need a low cooldown, but high health. I think that would make for great gameplay, where you have to time your shield to block a dva ult or high noon, or an ana nade/sleep but can't just passively put it down and sit behind it.

I hate when playing against pharah some people just expect you to deal with pharah urself as a dps, basically 1v2 and in higher ranks you dont find pharah's in the open very often so the only chance to kill her, is either she making a mistake or hit insane shots so you can kill her before she gets behind cover and get healed again, without support to help you its so hard. But without space its also hard and especially hard when their other dps is just focusing you so you cant do anything to pharah. So basically sometimes you need whole team to work around just to deal with pharah mercy.. and thats why I started playing pharah

As a support main, I once had a game where we had to fight a pocketed pharah, and the dps refused to switch off Genji and junkrat. The only thing we could do as support was to switch to hitscan ourselves, but we lost that match of course.

Weirdly my favorite anti pharah method is actually Winston. I just jump at them, they switch priority to me, throw my bubble when I count their shot tempo and they splash damage themselves. When me and bubble lands, I switch the back line (usually because it's a lone support as Mercy is usually in the air) and then clean up the scraps. The dps and tank don't have a healer at all as the mercy flew up to heal the half health pharah and then I immediately jump back at the pharah to scuttle them off.

As a tank main I always tell my mercy if she's healing me out of fear of "feeding" tank to pocket the damage dealer and reassure the mercy that I will play safe. That obviously can change if they have heavy damage dealers like bastion, torborn and reaper but you get the point.

Phara recently as definitely been dominating on DPS, even when i do go Soldier or another low fire rate dps if she has a pocket the only thing i can do is get her low. Bastion is like the only real counter to phara but only if your team enables the bastion to go after her. Bastion by himself just gets rolled by 2-3 phara rockets and the team blames the DPS for not targeting her.
