13:05 Yes, we need her to be full health, because 95% of the people in this game don't understand the concept of not getting shot in the face repeatedly. Maybe at higher ranks they do, but at lower ranks, everyone has a terrible habit of just standing in the open poking while taking tons of damage and then bitching when they don't get enough healing to sustain the trash damage they're taking. It happens all the damn time in plat and even at diamond. It's like nobody who plays this game has ever played a normal shooter where you have to take cover to avoid dying. That is unless they are one of those morons who play CoD and just run around all game with no sense of self preservation and blame all their stupid decisions and deaths on campers. I'm an avid Battlefield player also, so I know the concept of using cover and not just tanking with my face but nobody else ever does.

@nehylen57384 жыл бұрын
Although I agree with your point, I believe it's a larger issue than that. I've played tons of shooters since my first ones on PC in 99, and OW is probably the one where I've felt enemy damage feedback the least. It's not rare for me to understand I've just taken 2 Widow body shots on the kill, as it barely feels like it on the UI or audio. Watching the footage I was feeling like the Orisa was going to keep on Z-S'ing out of her shield, and single healing wouldn't be enough without nades. That's exactly how it'd go within the high gold/low plat games I indulge in.

But the reality is, supports are not even looking at who is winning them the game.

I’m a support main and this isn’t true for me. Most of my games are filled with bad dps that just go Genji and Tracer, zoom out of my LOS and dive the enemy team, and spam for healing. They proceed to flame me for not healing them when what am I supposed to do when they won’t get in my LOS? I do pay attention to my DPS but only when they’re playing with the team and not like a one man “dive into the enemy back line and pray that I get a kill for my reset” type of player. When I play a main healer, I just heal the tanks more because that’s my job as the main healer and they tend to stay with the team more (Excluding those charge into the enemy back line reins and jump into the enemy back line winstons/dvas)

As a top 500 support player, I do have to disagree with some of the claims you're making. I think in-order for you to get to mid-high level diamond, the most crucial element is to understand you're character and maximise their cool-downs in order for you to heal your team without dying. The most important element in support is survivability. I think beyond Diamond is when you have to start being able to DPS effectively while being a great support in order to carry you over to masters and GM. I've got to GM as mercy by maximising my abilities in order to sustain survivability and effectively damage boost/heal when required. I think this video overcomplicates the process.

@@YourOverwatch while is not a bad guide, several statements are incorrect and may lead to making players feed. I'll give some examples: ana about not supporting doomfist: your job is not to go chase the dps that are deep in the enemy backline. if they go too far, too bad. dps have to understand that ana can't heal them behind walls and shields. ana about orisa fighting doomfist: that orisa went out of position into a duel (that should have won on her own tbh), sure some support would have helped, but it was not the ana's fault. you are encouraging the ana player to go get in the middle of a war zone exactly where the enemy doom wants her. now, in those situations the ana player wasn't in the best position, but it wasn't that bad. ana is about minimizing the angles the enemy can attack you while you have clear sights. if your team plays passive then you can't take better angles to see the enemy team from a safe location. that is what I have learned from mL7 at least.
@jacobtoller38054 жыл бұрын
@@sakitoshi He doesn't need to chase the Doom, just keep him in LOS and land shots. The Doom was a somewhat decent player. He *wants* to be healed. Often time's (hopefully) he'll try to make it easier for you to heal him. As far as the Lucio stuff goes, I found myself saying "WTF" before or after several of his poorer plays. (like when he walked away from that 80 hp Ashe, or beat too late/early). But Lucio was who I played 90% of the time to get to masters. As far as the Lucio stuff goes I def agree with all of it.
@exol5114 жыл бұрын
I always look at it like this. If you as a support can not heal a single teammate, but can heal everyone else that player is probably out of position. If on the other hand you can not heal most of your team your position is probably wrong. Generally the position you should be in as a support needs to be the safest spot (dictated by enemy comp) from where you can still heal from most of your team. It is also smart to announce to team mates that you can not heal em due to their position, as that is far better than just being silent and letting em die (and even if they die, they most probably wont complain bout the healing as you told em before hand that you can not heal em there).

The damage players have an answer to everything in game with debuffs, dots, slows, stuns, 1 hit kill abilities, spam damage, aim bots, etc... For example what are supports supposed to do against wrecking ball who dives in, gets damage, and who at best gets a kill and at worst absorbs cooldowns while getting out? What about snipers just waiting for any peak of you to kill you like Ashe who has an powerful DOT, mobility, and almost 1 shot kill power. Sometimes you know that there's nothing you can do to help with a problem the enemy team is presenting.

The only issue I have is how the whole “healers are DPS with healing” comment. That’s asking for other people to DPS over healing your team. How it should have been worded was “While maintaining your teams health, if the time comes. Take the initiative to give additional pressure.” Me and a friend of mine when we duo supports he plays an aggro Lucio. Like, MAJORLY aggro Lucio. But, he’s only doing so when he knows I’m good as Mercy/Ana to heal the team and supply pressure as well if the time comes. He absolutely loves chasing widows and Ash’s. It’s all on synergy in how you handle those initiations with your teammates and communicating and knowing how to handle your role. Cause not everyone is a DPS healer who does well AND still can come back and heal and do their job.

Supports are DPS who can heal things Forgot to add the part where playing aggressive is dependent upon team synchronization and communication. regarding movement + aim, as you were talking about for the anna clips: you mention that the player should stand still to land the shots. but, it seems there's a fine line between staying still to line up shots, and keeping moving to not only avoid being hit, but also in some cases to help you aim... can you go into some detail about that? Im not saying it's contradictory, but where does the distinction come into play? (there was some aim tutorial vid that talked about using your own movement to help your own aim... but now i cant find it) anyway, thoughts?

if you find yourself in a position where you are uncontested in your positioning as ana, take your time and focus on your aim to heal teammates. as soon as you’re contested by anyone (for example a widow or an ashe) you should start moving so they can’t easily pick you off. it’s generally a situational thing, whether or not you should move while shooting.

I’m no coach, but I believe that climbing from lower ranks like silver-plat is gonna be less about influencing you’re teammates abilities and more about maximizing you’re own: I think this lucio player could benefit greatly from increasing apm and just being more present in the fight, he often is stuck in awkward positions where he doesn’t know if he should push forward or play further back, making his impact severely lowered. Many times he could’ve made plays on their team that only lucio can get away with, but often times he is only using amp for heals and not making any plays for his team. I think players like this would benefit from more specific examples and relate that to their own games to make decision making easier.

I admit, I do these same mistakes as Lucio 🤦♂️ DPS that can Heal. Great summary of the way I should think.

You know, this was the ideal vid for me, I learned a lot. Many of the ana clips you showed look like they could have been me in my games, and I've recently been making a concerted effort to play more lucio, so I can do more scouting, make more callouts, and try and backpack some games. I think the section on taking duels was real helpful, and some of those close kill/boopaway moments happen to me an embarrassing amount. Gotta focus on setting up the damage combos more often, and not being afraid to push in and use the melee button.

Every support in OW is a opportunist, especially the ones with simple kits like Mercy and Moira. They have to make the most out of their few optiond and can't afford to miss a chance once. Like for example getting a well planned sneaky rez off or dodging enemy EMPs with valk or dodging shatter with fade. If you don't nail it every time, your few simple abilities won't do too much. Ana is fundamentally harder to play but has by far the biggest carry potential as compensation. A single good nade combined with a nice sleep dart can win an entire fight, by just investing 2 cooldowns. But if she misses in dire situations, she is handy capping her team more than helping them...

I’m a Mercy main wanting to branch out. Even with sports, I’m very attracted to the idea of defense. Being aggressive is really scary.

Bap might be a good fit, he doesn’t have as much survivability as some others but he has really good potential at medium ranges and in bunker comps with amp and immort

as ana, you play your life until the time comes to give up your life for your team reset. ana calls like “i cant see you, pull back” are necessary, otherwise its not your job to over extend to heal. its your team’s job to stay in your sight line and yours to call out where you are and what you can see or do

Honestly, I was hoping you'd use Brig as an example at one of these points. Her Ult is always being used so wrong, she needs to try and use it mainly to sustain a current team fight before your team gets too low and you already popped it and can't turn back. Although you have other good moments to you it otherwise, but in any situation it is always used to help secure your team a team fight win. I've used my ult on Blizzard world where we were stuck attacking in our spawn and not able to leave to overwhelm the enemies and we got a team kill and I like to think communicating what I was doing, pressing in with my tanks, and taking any duels my other support might not have won from the flanking Genji is what won us that fight. Brig heals passively as she deals damage, so long as I maintain LOS at a distance I can turn around and change my focus from back to front in a pinch I knew we were gonna win the push to poibt on the streets.

5:30 Healing the team is a better decision so close to their spawn. Sure, you get the kill, maybe, that ash could have one shotted a lucky flick. We'll never know. The other option would have been to push on the beat, and focus one of the two. He left the fight right after.

I know it's not a simple topic and could be a lot of different things, but I know for me there are a TON of games on defense that seem to go really well only to end in the last overtime push with the enemy team capping a point. I'm just curious if you could help explain how to overcome overtime mechanics and the last push that seems to cause a lot of defenses to break at the end of a game

Before watching the video I just want to say, I've been playing support since I started playing Overwatch I'm a support main and if there's an only one thing I learned from playing support for all this long is no matter how good you are no matter how much heal you've done if your DPS are trash you're going to lose the game no doubt.
@JeffJeff-jm6nn4 жыл бұрын
Period , no matter how much you heal them up or even Rez them if mercy.
@yeehawpartner19224 жыл бұрын
BUT, that doesn’t exclude your tanks, I’ve had tank carries before. And your team can also win if you’re making big plays too, ex- sleeping a ulting enemy. Just focus more on your tanks then, and do some damage yourself.
@Charles_Thiboutot-Lessard4 жыл бұрын
You know, this is the same thing for dps and healers. If two members of your team can't play the game, you just can't win.
@YourOverwatch4 жыл бұрын
Support gets roughly 3x more value than DPS does. DPS play is largely irrelevant to the game. Supports have ALWAYS been the strongest role.

This makes me rethink my game this morning where I blamed my tank for being off the cart adjacent to it.
@chadboy15154 жыл бұрын
Tanks should realistically never play on cart. If you wipe a team you generally keep long range characters on cart and your tanks push up to create more space that the opponent can’t take manipulating the map a bit. Most tanks at low elo play payload simulator where they ride the cart the entire game but the opponent has the entire map to get all these angles on you.

4100 SR player, free aggressive play is standing on your Reinhardt as Ana. I consistently will do this and enemy Reins will see this and try to hit both me and rein which leads to a free anti grenade that allows my rein to now bully theirs because he needs to hold shield to avoid taking too much damage while anti’d

Can you guys do an extra video about Mercy? Especially the "go aggressive" Stuff feels weird with mercy. Most of the time i play her, i end up playing passive, hiding and heal/dmg boost my team. It feels like Bob is doing more than me in some games. Except for some rare Situations (especially in ult) i never draw my pistol. Shooting by yourself feels always weaker than boosting your dps. Maybe Mercy should get a rework, where you trade her dmg boost for another ability so she can get her gun out more frequently and do Stuff.
@kyakeshavarz35954 жыл бұрын
Maybe she should just get another ability that allows her to have more of an impact in a fight? When using her staff, she doesn't have anything on her reload button, so that's something they could work with

Mastering super jump and all other Guardian Angel tech is a must for an aggro Mercy playstyle. Learn to pocket the damage dealer (not necessarily dps) with the highest chance of landing damage on the enemy so that you can farm ult very quickly. Take positions where you can help your team while having the option of pinging the enemy team. Mercy deals 20 damage per shot but landing headshots is incredibly scary, especially on low HP targets. Valk is very useful for pushing against the enemy team with damage boost. It's also good for hitting vulnerable targets behind shields or taking cover. Tl;dr: Farm for Valk, protect your team while putting pressure on the enemy with damage boost or pistol, use ult to win fights.
@aureopeccato4 жыл бұрын
If anything for a rework, I’d like to see valk replace rez as a cooldown (allow mercy to chain heal/damage and maybe fly/walk+GA faster) and rez goes back to being an ult but it’s solo target and instant. But it’s as Gaussian says, you maximize your value via staying alive w/GA and damage boos the friendly with highest damage potential as much as you can
@davidquintanilla93304 жыл бұрын
Always be present in any duel that ur teammates might lose and use ur guardian angel agressively when I can get back to safety in 2 sec. ML7 has great mercy content and he would do a lot of Winston plays as mercy flying in and super jumping into cover behind or beside the enemy just to fly back after they chased him. He baited cooldowns and split teams apart and then after creating more duels on the map, helped win each one of them with a normal looking playstyle afterwards.
