Overwatch Coaching - PRO Gold Widow?! I can't rank up... [OverAnalyzed]

As the guy who actually sent in the clip for review and after reading the comments I feel I should make some justifications. 1) The email I sent never claimed I was a god or that I didn't belong in my rank, it said I'm stuck in my rank and would like some tips for my play to help me climb 2) Widowmaker isn't my first or only account, I have 3, that account is just my highest ranked account, the other 2 are silver 3) As 2 states it's not my only account, that doesn't make it or me a smurf, and to my knowledge sending in clips from alt accounts isn't against the rules. 4) I chose to send in a clip from That account because it's my highest ranked account and since this clip I have managed to climb 150SR putting me mid gold way above my 1800 "main" as you'd call it 5) I am well aware that my positioning is terrible and that's the whole reason for sending the clip in, I wanted advice on how to better position myself, my aim is semi decent, though inconsistent but that's not something you can get coached on, I have to work on that myself. Side note, I disagree with Sty, I don't think my aim is diamond level, plat maybe, but not diamond. I've gone against gold widows that absolutely wipe the floor with me. I believe I belong in my rank but I want to improve to climb higher. Other side note, I didn't specifically choose this game because it was a draw, I chose it because it should have been a win. it's public on my channel along with the other vod mentioned in the start of this video so you're free to watch them both, both ended badly. and this isn't a promotion of my channel, those vods are the only things on there. @@ethandennis4197 Thank you dude, that actually means a lot. going into this I knew my positioning was bad I just didn't know how bad until it got pointed out to me in this video so I'm going to be working on that and hopefully climbing. I find the issue is as Sty said, in this elo I remain basically uncontested for a lot of the game so I get away with that positioning and with no reason to change it I fall into habit. but now I know what I'm doing wrong I can start to fix it

She's a higly mechanical hero, meaning that most things you need is practice, practice, practice! You dont need that much planning, you do not engage in close combat and tbh practice does matter. I aint a good Widow but after some games I can land quite a few headshots

I've been hard stuck in low gold/high silver since season 1, no matter how many coaching vod reviews I watch, rewatch my own vods etc. So I know how this player feels when he says "which I'll no doubt lose soon." It's hard not to have a defeatist attitude when even if you win, all you're doing is making up SR that you've recently lost.

I personally feel like gold has the most toxic teammates, due to it being the middle of the pack cause half the players are just throwing, or don't care about team comp and the other half are actually trying and forever being stuck tilted cause you can't get a team to work with.

Gold is a farm Learn heroes that are strong at 1v1 like Genji Hog etc and try to go for anyone that dares to go on a solo adventure. The tunnel vision and awareness of gold players is incredibly bad

If your actually better than gold you should get out of there quite easy. Just learn a strong tank or Healer and support your team and focus one enemy at the time and you should have no broblem getting out of gold unless you are a gold player and you found your own SR

I can relate to this Widow, but what he said about Widow HS only games is a bit untrue. Yes, you can improve on HD accu, but only against other Widows. Since there's different hit boxes for different heroes, it's better to practice HS accu in QP/COMP

well as a coach id say its useful in more than just helping with widow hitboxes because it can train fundamentals and give confidence but its not 'awesome' its just one tool amongst many that widows can use and the fact that it does only use widows hit box can be an issue so using other modes too is generally a good idea

All three are probably true. If this guy played like this in most games, if not every one of them, he'd guaranteed be in plat. Diamond is a bit of a stretch, but plat is totally feasible. He could've tried killing the Mei by grappling down and SMG'ing her, she was at like 80 hp left or so, and the 1st tick on point was nearly full, which would've secured the win. Also, at the end s/he didn't switch to Tracer to hurry back.

Something that REALLY annoys me about these videos is how Stylosa always says "Why aren't you saying to your team this" or "Just use your mic man!" When in reality, I'm not sure he understands that a LOT of people don't have mics. That's from personal experience playing comp in a wide array of ranks. I've been high gold and mid diamond. There's people in both who just don't have mics or have them broken at the time. Assuming that everyoneeee has one is kinda, well, assumptuous. I can't be the only one that's noticed this, lol. Love the vids tho nonetheless, just something I felt like pointing out. And it's a nitpick at that.

If you're playing a ranked game then having a microphone to communicate online should be expected. If you're playing QP, that's fine or just some random shooter like BF or COD online. You can do teamwork in BF, but it isn't necessary. This game is all about teamwork. Calling things out is so much easier and can avoid deaths from flankers and dive tanks. I've seen so many Zens and Mercys die because they're caught by some Winston or D.va diving them and they can't call it out so nobody can turn around and protect them. (I always do) but it seems like the Reinhardt on my team doesn't cause he stands in the choke and is oblivious to it the entire time.

It's in the video settings in the options menu. Scroll down until you see "color blind options," expand the menu, and you should see the option to change the "enemy" and "friendly" colors. The color of Widowmaker's walls depends on what color the enemy team is, so change the enemy's color to yellow, or whatever color you think would be best!

This guy wasn’t perfect, and there are definitely things for him to work on. But at some point though you have to consider the Overwatch match making system and the horrible RNG that comes along with its systems. This guys team did him no favors. The pharah gets killed by a mei at a critical moment because she’s fighting on the ground. The enemy mercy kills one of the tanks in the same fight. The dude gets a leaver on his team. These are are variables that could be better controlled by Blizzard. Maybe one of the tanks was a dps main and that’s why he gets killed by the mercy. Maybe the pharah got lucky on her quad kill, but usually plays healer and did know how to play pharah correctly. Then someone leaves the match and you’re forced to play a man down. The morale drops and you make bad decisions. Then you lose and you’re more likely to tilt the next match and lose again. The variables in OW competitive should be tuned better. Role que systems, more social features, reinvigoration of the game to bring back more players who want to win. I’m a diamond/master player who’s in plat now. I’ve lost 17 straight games, seven with leavers, 7 without a viable team composition, and 3 because no voice chat and teammates instant lock one character and never switch. You can’t tell me that my play ruined those games. The systems behind the game need adjustment. TLDR You should always focus on yourself to improve your own game play, because that is what helps you rise through rankings. But the match maker doesn’t do any favors to players and can result in horrible swings of wins and losses.

I've just gotten back into overwatch as a gold player. I remember getting stuck and i just looked at videos about positioning and tried to implement that in the game. I start off winning many games and losing some of course there's the unfortunate streak of games and occasionally the trolls and throwers. But it is like you're absolutely stuck.

I've played in diamond and masters since release and have a track record on being in the top 5% of players in every game i've put a decent amount of time into. My three pieces of advice are to 1. Be consistent. Pop offs mean nothing if you can't perform the next fight. This can lose you games when your "sucky moment" is at a super crucial point. Like when you missed mei three times on point. 2. Try to understand the game at a deeper level. Don't just understand your favorite gun/hero/etc. You must understand everything at a deep level. I always recommend you watch pros play and always think of new ways to bend the rules or outplay someone. For example i had been playing winston for almost 7 seasons before i learned from a pro that you can turn around mid jump to not get headshot by widow. 3. Shotcall, shotcall, and shotcall some more. Some people might find it annoying but do it anyway. I learned the power of shotcalling back in my halo 3, and csgo days and you would be suprised how OP it is. People like to complain how OP this hero is or how OP a gun is but in reality teamwork is THE most OP thing in every single video game. Call out when someone is low, talk about ultimate cooldowns, and combos, talk about flankers and remind your team every 5 seconds if they are not dealt with. Call out big enemy cooldowns, and who to focus in a fight. Make sure you shot call things that are important at the time and not fill comms with useless information. Good luck out there buddy!

@@sicaqueen3884 OK(1) first always stay on the High ground (2) put the venom mine behind you to know if there is a enemie behind you (3) or use the venom mine as a shield look if you are shooting from a window put the venom mine in front of you so when people try to shoot you're head the bolit well hit the venom mine(4) use SMg if the enemie is so close to you (5) try to find good hiding spots so you can shoot without they know where are you and try to stay with you're team as possible (6) play coustum game head shoots only to make you're aim better BTW is OK to make body shoot wish you luck 👍

From 9:16 to 9:19 the winston should have been on the low ground contesting with the rein. He could have gotten a healing orb from the zen and he could have cleared out the hammond mines. Im really good orisa and lucio but im trying be flexable so i can be a good mccree, dva, Junkrat, rein, zen and ana but i just cant climb with team that cant be a dps (i had mostly elims and damage as zen ffs) im trying my best to help my team and get kills too. I was bronze (1500) in first year of a game, ok maybe i was bad. I started learning more heroes, getting way better and got plat (2550). But something hapend and i just got stuck at gold (1950/2000) For like a year. This is just.. To climb u have to be a dps? Or a stupid genji main?

Climbing as dps is good because the win condition for dps is simple: get kills on the right targets at the right time, dont die. But for thanks and supports it's often times not that simple and takes a good game sense and the ability to read your enemies and play accordingly. I suggest you watch Jayne it could help u out

Not at all. I was stubborn and wanted to play almost always DPS which got me stuck in platinum for some time. Few seasons back I started to play supports in competitive (Zen and Moira mainly) and for those seasons I was around 3450. Now I am fine with my rank and enjoy playing supports. With good teams (communication and all) I played even tanks or DPS if needed and now I know Diamond is probably my best. Just find something you enjoy to do in the game and don't be stubborn.

As with all of these videos, some of the observations truly are subjective over analysis. 5:50 was a great play. It’s not just gold players. When people come out of spawn they usually bot out (kephrii, samito, etc. Point this out) He pushed up knowing he had grappling hook as an escape in case of dive. Yes being agressive isn’t always smart, but being smart in an agressive play is, and he definitely employed the latter.

Tip is to put mines where you’re sniping from (at your feet) so if like a genji pushes you he hits the mine dealing 75 dmg, if the cool down is off you can deploy a second one for a total of 150 dmg

All I'm saying is he had good mechanics obviously a Smurf at a much higher lvl then plat. He probably doesn't do good because his dicision making sucks he's only getting away with it because the enemy is of a lower skill. Winston shouldn't dive directly on her instead behind cut off the exit, mcree should have killed widow but instead waited too long and went for flash. The Winston could of also had mercy come with them. He's probably in gold by choice or he doesn't switch when he gets pressure on him, or his team doesn't approve of the widow.

Something funny that happens to me is that if I play Widow I miss mostly every shot, even standing still targets that are waving at me in skirmish, so it gets awkward. But if I play Ana, I can easily shoot down Pharahs and even Widowmakers. I can even heal that Genji and Lucio that feel like they need to be jumping all over the place even when they are not fighting anyone. So I am not sure how that happens, but perhaps it is the preasure that every single shot has to be a headshot as a Widowmaker, otherwise I am a complete failure, so I miss the shot and I begin spamming until I feel bad and switch.

I disagree on 5:15, he had grapple avaliable, and on widow, going for odd angles to catch the enemy off guard is perfectly fine as long as you have grapple avaliable. That position has good sight lines and you can catch people going highground.

I actually didn't think a coaching of a gold player would help me out, but I see now, that I do mistakes like that aswell, even if I KNOW there are mistakes, since I clearly saw in this video what he did wrong, (I'm a high diamond - master widowmain, not saying that im "a god" or anything, don't get me wrong there), but I realized I actually do some of them aswell, even If thought I would do wayyyy less mistakes, since im playing on a higher elo...seems like Its not that much of a big difference. xD Nice video, good explained, really helpful!

The worst player and the best player share habitual mistakes and misplays, the main difference between them is the best player is truly making mistakes and only does it when they lose focus, but the worst player won't even realize they have messed up. Everybody can learn from these videos, no matter what rank is being reviewed or what rank you are personally. The issues being addressed are universal

4:30 on the one hand i do understand why a widow would take this position. but it also shows the weakness of the elo that you're playing at. widow: gets headshot on mccree mercy: oh let me stand in the same spot where mccree died and do an action that literally requires me to stay still for 3 seconds widow: gets headshotted. a good team would've immediately called out the widow and the winston AND THE JUNKRAT would've dived the widow and most likely kill her. mccree will be back in a couple secs but thats a looooooooooooong walk back for the widow.

In my opinion,, the rank system is not just,, and I will explain why and my suggestion to improve the rank system.. If you win with your team,, you all get between 20 to 25 points and if you loose with your team,, you all decrease 20 to 25 points,, regardless what efforts you did in the game (even in you got 4 gold medals or MVP in the game).. My suggestion is that you get points depending on your efforts in the game.. For example,, if you win and you were the best player in your team,, you should get - for example - 30 to 35 points and if you were average player you get 20 to 25 points and if you were the worst player you get 10 to 15 points.. Also when you loose,, if you were the best player in your team (sometimes you get 4 models even if you lost) you decrease 10 to 15 points only,, and if you average 20 to 25 points and if you were the worst 30 to 35.. Most of the times you find a player lost but he was the best player in the game and you find a player win but he was so bad and didn't do anything yo his team but he was lucky the he played the game with 3 or 4 excellent players and he got win wiyh them!!!!.. How could this player get 20 to 25 points and the other good player in the other team - with all the efforts he did - decrease 20 to 25 points??!!!!!!!!.. Something not logic at all in my opinion.. And that's why you find good players still stuck in gold and average players in plat (because only they play with a stack has excellent players)..

The issue with the medals logic is it will only promote what is already a huge issue in comp - everybody going DPS. I already have more than enough 3-4 DPS games, I don't need a 5 DPS game just cause everybody wants to get gold damage, elims, and obj elims in order to lose less SR. Until Blizzard is able to set up a better way to determine who's truly the most valuable member of their team, going medals = different increases/decreases in SR will only hurt the game and murder comp. Maybe setting different benchmarks based on class to have a points system instead of medals, but definitely not with medals. (Tanks getting more points for staying on the objective and/or mitigating damage, healers would be saves and healing done, DPS being KILLS and damage dealt - then they'd get less points for the objectives of the other classes but still be rewarded) There's also different scenarios that cause people to not get golds. A lot of the time when I'm Junk I'm not in the damage and kills medals but that's cause I'm busting down sheilds so the rest of the team can have an easier time, then my teammates will go "Hey Junkrat why don't you have the most kills?" and I'll go "Cause I'm breaking the barriers and containing them". Same thing with Bastion, my first focus is shields, second is kills (unless there's a Pharah - then she becomes top priority). Sometimes DPS2 is eaten by a Sombra who does nothing for kills and damage but is harassing so hard that the enemy can't do anything. My big issue is that there's no REAL reward for playing well with a man down - you only get punished unless you scrape out a draw or frag into a win. If someone leaves and you lose, you should lose half the SR. If someone leaves and you frag out with your team to win, you should earn double.

I wish more Gold/Silver players understood these concepts you speak of. Can't count how many times I've had gold and silver level players claim their team is the reason they're their, while you watch them make simple mistakes like getting picked off during a regroup (had a few people tell me full regrouping was stupid bc it takes too long, you need to keep pushing in constantly).
