I'm so confused. This is definitely a gold game to me. I personally believe that the entire player base has kind of become a bit better overall. I am not saying this tank player should be in a higher rank; I think they're where they need to be. Maybe it's just higher ranked players that think we should be playing way worse. We're watching overanalyzed at all ranks and we all learn from these vids & playing the game, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can increase our rank unless we "learn" faster than the rest (maybe?).

Been gold and plat myself and i can tell you there is almost no difference until you get to high plat in the game play. The only difference is most plats think they are better than everyone else in the game.

I have to agree gold is a much friendlier place just in my experience. Once you get to plat everyone has an ego and every other person is saying they're a Smurf or on a second account to maintain it

Yeah. 2300 vs 2750 is a big gap and that matters. 2300 vs 2550... not so much.. like i qued with a low gold friend of mine and the games felt so casual.... so tbh there is a gap, but not much of one

@@strife8656 Anecdotally, I think MMR is starting to have more to do with the quality of your games than SR. I have two accounts around 2300 (on tank), both have career highs in 2400. One, however, spent a while in low silver; the other did not. On the one that has never touched silver, the games are dramatically faster, with more mechanically skilled DPS players and more consistent execution of combos. On the other account, the games usually feel closer to silver than plat--with teams struggling to group up or successfully execute strategies. The difference is so dramatic that I actually didn't realize that my "lower" account had climbed to the same rank as my other account until they'd been in the same tier for quite a while.

@@jeffsDad interesting, tbh i wouldnt know too much about that. Cuz I started overwatch on ps4, placed around 2250, and didnt really do a lot of comp when i started. Eventually climbed to about 2850 then stopped playing on console cause i got a pc for christmas. Placed around 2250 again on pc, but instantly climbed to 2400. (At this time i didnt have good equipment, i had a crappy mouse and keyboard, wifi was always acting up) So... then i Disconnected about 6 to 8 games, making me lose about 400 sr. This dropped me into 1990 or so, i got a new mouse and keyboard, better wifi, and skyrocketted up outa silver before the season ended. Now im at 2850 in comp open queue, and 2650 average in comp. (Tank 2800, Dps 2650, Healer 2450) if i were to do more healer games id probably make it outa gold i just sont care enough to do em xD

If this is the case, then that would mean that he would pick you on overanalyzed, but it is guess the rank day. So you instead of being taught how to get better, you are basically shown how you play now. Yes guess the SR is good, but when you realize you could have been in overanalyzed, instead of it...I would be also kind of upset. And don't get me wrong, I like guess the SR and I would be glad if I got there, but if the proces of picking is as I described, I wouldn' t be so happy, because overanalyzed is better for me as a player.

He’s getting a lot of good value which is why people are saying smurf, however a lot of his movements and mannerisms are slow and telling of a low ranked player. He never shield hops and doesn’t ever animation cancel his fire strike with a hammer swing. There are also large periods of time where he doesn’t do anything.

It may be different for PC, but as someone who is both 2100 dps and 2700 healer on console, there is a clear difference in ability between the ranks in terms of mistakes made and hero selection. Watching this gameplay I think this player deserves their rank.

Gonna edit and add to this as I watch the vid: - Around 4:20 (nice), I'm recognising that although he's good in a fight, he isn't thinking AHEAD. His Zarya's gone ahead, half the team are still capping, having a fourth person cap doesn't speed it up enough to warrant having your front line stay behind. He should have gone with the Zarya. Nonetheless, using the Barrier and Armour health effectively has shown he's still VERY capable. A dodgy charge at one point, taking him to the other side of the point and he didn't get punished for it, so I'm thinking high gold or low Plat (2450-2600) - Around 5:00 in, his barrier placement and mentality was poor. Most of the team to the left, Zarya on the right sending in alt-fires. This means they were divided between where to stop damage from, but ended up protecting from neither. Also, the Shatter gameplay was shoddy, so I'm gonna go down a bit, from Gold/Plat to the upper half of Gold (2300-2450) - Around 8 minutes, the Shatter may have been huge, but that wasn't due to JustARookie being good, that was due to the enemy Rein's failing. The Rein had kept up his barrier for ages, the barrier wasn't at risk of breaking there was no indication that he was going to let it down. The reason the Shatter went through was that the enemy Rein let his barrier down senselessly AFTER Rookie's animation had started. Sticking with mid-gold. 2300ish. [Side note] Guaranteed value would have been turning around to Shatter the ulting Soldier. Let a DPS or the Zarya kill him, but the soldier was still a threat and would go on to get kills with his ult.

Is good the best rank? No. But, it is designed for improvement. And everyday golds are getting better, you cannot deny that.

Just a comment about this style of OverAnalyzed, they are fun to watch & I enjoy trying to guess the rank along with you, but there isn't really a whole lot of coaching going on in the guess the rank videos. Seems like from the emails however, people are still sending videos with the intention of getting that OG OverAnalyzed coaching, which isn't really happening here. For instance, this player seemed to really want to know your thoughts on their positioning & when to play aggressively, based on their email, but that's not addressed while you watch the replay because you didn't read the email beforehand & didn't know that they wanted you to focus on that. Maybe a solution would be to have whoever is sending you the videos also send a screenshot of the email with any identifying information about the player's rank blacked out? That way you can still focus on giving advice in specific areas the player wants advice in & have the guess the rank game going at once.

Honestly (from a console perspective) Having been gold and plat. There is virtually no difference between the two. Until you get to high plat and start scratching the surface of diamond plat players and gold players are one and the same. I know plat players won't like the sound of that but It is not a big jump at all. I tend to fall and rise between gold and plat and occasionally will make it to diamond if I am on a winning streak. Honestly even ana constantly jumping in the front line out of position and the domino effect of someone ulting kicking off 6 other ulties happens a lot in plat too. Plat and gold feel like a blur lol

Hey Sty! Game developer here (not for Bliz) but that flashing you see at the beginning on the stairs and around the map is called Z fighting. It happens when surfaces of models are too close together and are more noticeable at extreme distances.

This is exactly how I play Rein but I'm in low Gold, so yes there are alot of Golds that play like Plats but get bad luck (smurfs, bad heals/dps picks, lag, placements, low friends, lose 100 at while gaining 10 sr)

You can't just have a bunch of players in gold that are supposed to be in plat. The ranks don't have hard requirements, they are just SR ranges. Since everyone in a match will either gain SR or lose SR based on the outcome, increases in knowledge and skill across the entire player base doesn't mean everyone ranks up. What has happened, Sty, is that you have been out of these ranks for so long that you no longer know what average Overwatch play looks like anymore. Everyone has gotten better as the game has been out. In fact, part of what makes this new series of yours so difficult is that as Overwatch endures as a game, it's not taking in as many new players as it was. Meaning that a majority of players have been playing for years. As their mechanics improve through playing, along with their "Overwatch Sense", the skill differential between ranks actually becomes smaller. There may no longer be as clear of a demarcation between a gold and a plat player, or a silver and a bronze player, or even a plat and a diamond.

But there would also be reins in gold that never block earthshatter and always charge in too deep but their team manages to follow up the overaggression and win the fight.

13:37 Stylosa I really want you to comment on this. Fire strike has a 6 second cool down, he has a great time window to throw a fire strike at the enemy spawn before they get to choke. You talk about how good Reins use fire strike to build ult charge before the enemy rein did. HE DID EXACTLY THAT. And by the time the enemy came to choke he had his fire strike again, with a decent amount of ult charge to start. Probably wasn’t the smartest idea to do that against a genii and a Zarya, but as long as your teammates are not with u they won’t get hit by a reflected fire strike. That’s literally the only con to that play in my eyes.

If genji deflects fire strike he gets ult charge, if zarya bubbles it on herself and another she gets charge for her beam, if it damages anyone healers get ult charge. That 1 firestrike at spawn could potentially put multiple players ahead in ult charge, while the rein gets 13 - 20% from it and it desyncs the ultimates. Zens will have a harder time anticipating genji blade for example. If the other team gets their ults first your team is screwed all because a rein was greeding for a yeeted fire strike that is almost guaranteed to provide miniscual possibly 0 ult charge. Not worth it, plus you are announcing you are playing rein before they are even at the choke. If the team was incredibly dumb they maybe all get hit and you get a lot of charge, but 9/10 times that wouldn't happen. I think what sty is getting at is its a risky play, and making risky play on spawn is not a good idea if you are trying to maintain above a 50% win rate. Save making plays for when the fight breaks out. And he is gm so he obviously isn't washed up. I agree with sty that he should have went for a pin, I would have went for a pin there. I noticed he was not following up earth shatter with fire strike either. If the entire team is clumped together and stunned its free aoe damage and massive ult charge and less hammer swings needed for elims too. I will generally do this and then pin whichever tank is still alive before he gets back up. No need to focus the support here unless its mercy, lucio or moira since they can all escape if not prioritized. The dps should clean up supports if they have a brain though, its not the tanks job to kill support they want the tank dead so they can create more space. As sty says a lot 6 v 5 you have won, enemy main tank dies you have won, enemy main support dies you have won. Thats what its like in gm, so if you want to get to gm break bad habits and learn to play like a gm. This player wasn't wrong to prioritize rein, but if he pin against the wall instead of cleaving he dies quicker then everybody can clean up

I mention those things, and I'm aware of it. I however still disagree on the rein charge. Yes in most circumstances it looks good, but you don't know if the ana has sleep and anti-nades as you're charging. You say kill bad habits to be a GM player, and that's resisting the urge to go for a charge, that seems promising, but turns out devastating. "Enemy main tank dies you have won", well that's certainly what the enemy got out of it, huh?

He would've gotten the kill faster with a charge, but he still would've died. He needed to stay alive for there to have been any chance of winning that fight. And yes, that means giving them that back area. Anticipate the enemy maybe going to high ground and meet them there and force them to drop. If they aren't high ground, meet them in the back right where they are. And bro you're not watching my gameplay, don't be so snarky about breaking bad habits. Even GM's make mistakes like going for promising charges, you and me probably both watch streamers and have both seen it happen all the time. You're acting like GM's are 100% accurate in making every decision, think for yourself my guy. I try to learn from the mistakes that these GM players do occasionally. And when they do a play like that giving the circumstances, 95% of the time they feed and leave the rest of the team vulnerable.

I guessed around 2400-2600 as well. Some players were clearly worse than others. You can tell by the positions that these players never played against anyone good because they would have been popped for it.

Things that made me suspect gold was ana positioning at the start and often his team did not group up and went in outnumbered on front of his shield. But on the other hand there was a lot of team play and ult combination. So probably it is a gold to plat group play of he is in a team. Group gold looks different than solo gold.

I was thinking high gold myself. I'm thinking it was either a really good game from him or what's keeping him in gold is he's playing when he isn't at his best. We've all had those moments when we've been on the grind for so long our brains go into auto pilot. Some people I know (myself included) have the bad habits of continuing to play like this when they could easily be higher.

This is what gold looks like. In plat the other rein would have blocked a couple more earth shatters, and the do’s would have punished his “finishing capabilities” a little more. (He was not finishing people of as fast and sometimes not at all, and in plat the support would yell at the dps and they would have turned around and murdered him.

Tbf I have a smurf cause I use my main for a team and other reasons. On my smurf it placed me low... I don't know why but it put me in silver for dps... I don't play DPS much as it is usually unfair as it matches me with people way lower. Even with support on quick play sometimes the matchmaking is way off... It ends up being I pick Moira to carry, do 20k healing and get 5 gold medals and everyone in lobby wondering what happened. Overwatch needs to be changed in how it measures skill. Game sense and positioning aren't accounted for. Players should be able to make more than just endorsements. Be able to say things like "they countered ults" and nominate moments. Same as POTG. Shouldn't be one. Should be "plays" of the game.

I'm going to guess 2400 because the rein doesn't really shield hop, and there are a lot of times when the rein just hard w's into the enemy instead of backing up and recharging shield. Lastly, this player doesn't utilize charge like at all. They don't go for short pins, and also rarely uses it for mobility as well.

Just looking at his game sens you could easily tell it wasnt plat let alone mid plat. When he shattered he didnt use his firestrike to quickly kill 200 hp heroes and he ignored the enemies soldier ult twice.

That's EXACTLY what's going on in gold - I'm a Mercy main who's got avg healing just under GM level, and don't die too often, know how to superjump as well - and yet I'm mid-gold level. And that's just me. There's tanks like this guy, DPS who shouldn't be here (but are) and SO MANY out-standing players in gold who honestly should be plat or even Diamond who just cannot climb, due to team - or lack of teamwork.

Don't know what you use to record, but if it's OBS; OBS lets you record the audio streams up to 6 separate channels so you could use channel 1 as MIX, channel 2 as MIC only, and 3 as GAME audio (4 as MUSIC). If there's a problem with audio (Or if you want to stream with music but also make youtube videos and not get copystriked) you can fix the mix after the fact :)

I locked in my guess at 1901, so I'm shocked it's that high. I play Rein from Silver (with my team) to high Plat and this didn't feel like a Plat game to me. I could see a lot of Ana shots missing the Rein, she was healing purple targets and both Ana's were occasionally moving in front of their team. This guy's game sense feels Plat but his reaction time feels low Silver to me.
