I have a tip to get in motion. We all have to go to the toilet. For that, we have to move to the bathroom and voilà - we‘re in motion. Then we can start directly in the bathroom or on our way back to some other room something 😄 Thank you Kallie, I‘ve already learnt so much from you💚

Congrats to the growing family! ❤ I clean the kitchen after dinner every single day. I don't allow myself to leave the kitchen before putting everything into the dishwasher and washing big stuff by hand, cleaning the table and setting it for the morning. If I sit down on the sofa, I'm never able to get up again and do it later... Once in rest, I'll stay in rest! 🤣

I’m going through this bout of emotional exhaustion, and whenever I have the chance to stay home and vegetate, I make a deal with myself, that every time I get up from the couch, I will do one thing only, whatever that is. I have watched my home getting gradually tidier in a matter of days, and I didn’t even feel the overwhelm of doing the work, because I would do a tiny small thing, and then my reward was that I would lie down and carry on watching tv. I know it’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing.😊

What is your recommendation for those of us suffering with getting started with the brain dump? I often get stuck at this point. I’m overwhelmed and can’t seem to get everything out of my head. I’ll start to write things down, can’t think of everything or see everything and feel overwhelmed then get distracted. I often struggle to move past this step. But I also feel overwhelmed by everything around me and don’t know where to start.
@margaretlake
@margaretlake Жыл бұрын
What works for me is to pick a room, any room. Flip a coin, do eeny meeny miney mo or anything that works for you. Then write down two or three tasks for that room. You don't have to write everything down that needs to be done in that room. Like Kallie said, break it down into small tasks. She further said, a body in motion tends to stay in motion. When you get those two or three tasks done that you have written down, you might just keep going. But if you don't keep going, like Scarlett O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day. I now do my kitchen sink every night and she's right, I then stay in motion. But sometimes I don't and that's okay too. When I see the messy kitchen in the morning, I know that I've just added to my list. Darn!

When I get behind I no longer see it as me being a failure, I see it as it’s time for the rest of my family to step in and step up and start doing more because it’s not all my responsibility. We all live in this and no one here is immune to doing their part to keep the house running well. I think where we mommas need to do better is not trying to do it all and raise our expectations of the other members of our family and delegate more responsibility. Just because our partners may earn the sole income doesn’t make managing the entire house OUR job alone. Obviously very little ones can’t do a whole lot but each year our kids can do more and more to pitch in and our partners can certainly do more. In my house, no one sits on the couch to watch TV after dinner until the entire kitchen is clean. Period. Why should we being working into the late hours while the rest of the family relaxes and enjoys their evening? NOPE. We all live here, we ALL do our part.

My challenge is that I use up my task initiation self-discipline by trying to start a million times, but getting interuptted after literally less than 5 minutes, over and over again. But, it is still a challenge and very much like you described. One thing that I have found helpful is during quiet time (2 days a week they get an hour of screen time, the other 3 days it’s just a quiet activity in their room, no one naps any more) I set an alarm for myself. 35 minutes I do cleaning or whatever like a crazy woman, and then then last 25 minutes I put my feet up and do something relaxing. I remember those days! Now my teen boys are in the kitchen washing dishes and they are funny, amazing humans. My only regret is the amount of time I spent stressing and judging myself, during their childhood. You'll get there! 🤗

I was very sick for a month recently - bad cold 😷🤒🤧🤮 Thankful that my hubby was able to take care of me & keep the house from going completely down the drain. But I was sooo out of it when it came to getting back to my previous routines. That took about another month to have the strength and bandwidth to get completely back - but just starting at each one (one at a time,) helped. Thanks for the encouragement!❤

I love all of your advice! You are so lovely! I just find it challenging to keep up with how fast you talk. If you could slow down just a little, it would be easier to absorb what you are saying. You have a beautiful family and I love the element of self compassion. 💖

OMG I was just sitting here thinking….”where do I start?! I need inspiration!” And then you appear to save the day! Thank you for the great ideas and tools. And as a full time (now live-in) caregiver to my sick Mom…thank you for the kind words. And congratulations on your little one. In Greek we say “na sas zisi” which basically wishes great health and strength to your new baby. 💙🤍

This really helped me feel like I wasn’t failing at life. Literally, I look around sometimes and think and sometimes say out loud to myself, “I didn’t grow up like this… wth?!” I feel defeated instantly and feel that the mess defines me. Thanks for posting.❤

This is very needed for me right now. I've been very ill recently with pneumonia and very bad asthma and it lasted for over a month. I ended up on steroids for it for 5 weeks my asthma was so bad. I'm back at work now but still really weak and to be perfectly honest work and sometimes cooking dinner is about all I can manage right now and as we need to pay the bills that's the priority. I have been my own worst enemy with self talk about how useless I am because the house is a mess but you're so right. If I had a friend who'd been as ill as me and had ended up in hospital twice like me and is just getting back to work and she was saying sorry about the mess I'd say what do you expect you've been really ill. You're going to work to keep the bills paid give yourself a break. Today I went to work I did such a good job cleaning up there that the manager thanked me (she never thanks anyone hardly ever). I've come back in a lot of pain though (I also have fibromyalgia) and completely worn out. I cooked dinner for my daughter and my husband and I, as my daughter isn't very well otherwise she would have cooked at least her own dinner. And then to be honest I've just sat and veged watching KZbin ect. Your video popped up and it was exactly what I needed so thank you. I will get back on top of everything when I am stronger but I literally had asthma attacks so bad I could have died not long ago and still have pneumonia lingering so I'll give myself a break for now, then I'll tackle it a bit at a time. Something I found helped when a task was so big it was daunting was, when I did our attic room that was literally trashed (we used it like a loft). I would go in and fill a toy box with random stuff off the floor or wherever, bring it out of the room put it on the bed and sort that one box. By doing that again and again I took it from a room so trashed we were risking avalanches to a spotless beautiful modern bedroom for my daughter. I then did the same again in the other attic bedroom which wasn't as bad but was still pretty messy.

Great information! I will definitely look into your guides and printable’s. Can you provide information on how to structure a day with tasks for cleaning and decluttering so that the structure moves you forward? Also, it would really be nice to see some of you influencers provide information for someone who is wheelchair-bound to do their tasks, which brings a totally new set of issues to the table.

So glad to see this question! I have MS which limits my ability to stand and walk, my house is not wheelchair accessible (moving from room to room - the floors have heavy jams and are not the same height! Built in 1925, everything is narrow) and I have a back problem that causes sitting to be painful…and I have ADHD! Lol. Original poster, how accessible is your home? Thank you for asking the question.

@@eydiehostetler9123I have a disability too. I think it would be really difficult for an able bodied person to know what it's like living with a disability they probably take for granted things we can find very difficult. My own husband has been living with me for 23 years and still doesn't really understand it. The amount of times he gets frustrated because we'll be doing a job and I have to sit and rest for a while before continuing. Even if I did a video for people with fibromyalgia which I have (not that I'm organised enough lol), it would really only apply to people at my level of fibro if that makes sense it wouldn't help anyone thats worse than me as they couldn't do what I can and likewise someone better than me could do more, as I can do things to my ability. I wonder if there are any wheelchair users that have a similar channel as any adaptations they use could come in handy maybe Callie could do a collab. I have found we are masters of figuring out ways round of doing things. Such as when I couldn't support my daughter to breast feed without severe pain I bought a special cushion which held her up for me. When cleaning I tend to use long handled tools wherever possible as bending hurts. I used a window cleaning mop on a long handle today to clean walls and skirting boards at work things like that. A lot of brooms sticks have adjustable handles that might be a way of making it shorter to be able to use it in your wheelchair, just a thought.

System fails! As a teacher my school year basically keeps a structure in my home. I'm more on top of things because I have to have clothes, my family needs clothes, food, there's dance and events and vacations and parent teacher conferences as the teacher and the parent. Summer break, relaxing, the long vacations are when my systems fail. Now with school back I'm playing catch up. I needed this to remind me that I am a human and that my cleaning doesn't define me as a wife or mother.
