I find that the three lane highway gets more congested as a small roundabout than a traffic light. A two lane highway with lane switching enabled at all intersections and the right hand lane for exit only works a dream in tight spaces like he has here. You have to enable lane switching because you likely don't have more nodes than intersections when you are working that small.

Lol Biffa :) I had a laugh at the 21th minute where you mention the landfill sides being to close to the highway. while before the 7th minute where there was actually no highway, they where placed actually quite right. The problem there was caused not by the land fill, but by the throughroad that you touched in minute 23:40. What also might have been verry effective is connecting that road up to th ebypass lanes you mentioned in 20:00 so that local traffic will split from through traffic. However in the end you fixed the city again. Good video agian and I enjoy looking at them.

i think the problem with this city at first is that there's like only one entrance to a HUGE part of town. That makes all your traffic (25k) go directly there which causes this heavy congestion. When I was building a city, I just put one entrance in which meant I was going to have this huge line of cars. But when I added another entrance into town the WHOLE highway cleared up. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Traffic so bad that the vehicles DRIVE OVER EACH OTHER?! 😆 I don't even know where to begin with this one! 😆 Did the creator have metro here? 🤔 It's obvious that more roundabouts were needed off that highway. At the 15:00 mark, you place a monorail line. You did it not as efficient as possible. You should have three lines. One around the inside rail of the big area, one on the inside of the small area, and one around the outside of the entire area. By doing this, each station has a monorail coming and going from each direction without overlapping intersections.

One huge thing I noticed is forestry and farming produces an insane amount of trucks, I combat that by running slick little underground highways straight from the main highway to the industrial districts, completely bypassing the city. It’s worked out pretty well and looks neat, in case anyone wants to try it.
@donavanaking Жыл бұрын
Great video! For the cargo harbor you could use a road with a median so the trucks do not cross over the road. Also, I would redo the lane mathematics for the highway interchange going into the new industry area. When the two lanes exiting the highway merge, they merge into a 1 lane road and then into the 4 lane road you built. Switching the 1 lane road to a 2 lane road would help there!

Hey Biffa, instead of sticking little roundabouts on busy intersections (like in 14:10) I find that setting up lefternmost lane on a main road to be left-turn (or viceversa on righthand drive roads) only gives better results and appeals more visually. Suggestion for people who don't like too many roundabouts: Make a "squareabout" by using one way roads in busy areas. It's not always as effective as a "real" roundabout, but sometimes it simply looks better. Roundabouts often look like "I built this to fix a problem". Squareabouts can easily be "hidden".
@CheddarmanGeo5 жыл бұрын
You only think roundabouts look like you used it to fix a problem because Biffa uses them to fix problems :) Also try one way systems in your busy areas for another traffic solution that isn't a roundabout.
@pufaxx5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I was talking about … at least what I WANTED to talk about … I admit, my English is very bad :) Anyway, creating kind of a "ring system" often helps a lot. Or "you can only go OFF this main road" can be a good solution, too. Sometimes roundabouts don't really meet the "style" or look a little misplaced in some areas. So if somebody doesn't want a roundabout, my suggestion is to imagine what a roundabout would do in a certain situation and trying to achieve the same effect with other techniques.
@CheddarmanGeo5 жыл бұрын

Something about connecting little roads to the round-about to keep it's shape when you add/delete roads to it... Did you know, that every place you connect a road to another road it creates a new node? And nodes seem to be the only place traffic will change lanes. And something I see you do very often when correcting traffic is not following through with fixing the outcome of your changes... like forcing right-lane traffic to turn right, but the very next node you force the right-lane traffic to turn right. Meaning you're forcing traffic coming in, to immediately leave, or go off around the city to get to where they're going. If you use those little roads to connect to the round-about in between the roads you will create new nodes in between the ones you have roads attached to (if the round-about's big enough, and if 55 or bigger it sometimes has them already), giving traffic another opportunity to change lanes and get to where they're going. Something I do myself in a round-about is to control lane changing in those [in-between] nodes to only be able to change L/R one lane. It forces them to go all the way around the round-about if they came on one lane too far from their exit, and keeps them from blocking traffic with excessive/exaggerated lane-changing. I think I've done quite nicely myself with one of the first cities I built, I went back and "fixed" it when it had a population of ~45k and traffic was gridlocked at 35% or less. It now has over 100k population (closely approaching 150k) and traffic is always between 72% and 79%.... Thanks to your videos!

I've found that splitting traffic going into roundabouts helps things move too. With multiple lanes coming into a roundabout the furthest right lane I direct into the outside lane of the ring and the left lanes I direct deeper into the roundabout, splits the traffic when they want to immediately turn right vs going to another out road.
@jtjc77055 жыл бұрын
Holding shift will set the same settings along all continuing roads *UNTIL* you hit an intersection. It's very useful for longer stretches of road, less so for multi-junction roundabouts.
