Hello, personally I do not feel q sense of reassurance when I watch her. I feel she impersonates her own sentence : " Death is all around us. We live and we die. We control nothing beyond that. " she is neither indifferent to life or death, she accepts fully both. Thus, she is fully involved in life. However, it is true there is a great melancholy to her. She does not have the livelihood of lord Krishna, for instance.

@@MaCome4631 Hai, thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts. For the longest time I had problems coming to terms with the death of my first pet. He past a year ago but my grief was still strong. And of course I had a big problem(just like Anjin) when Mariko says we control nothing beyond life & death. For days & days it troubles me. My grief was anger & pain. But when you said, Mariko is indifferent both life & death, she accepts fully both. I got it. To say I love my pet is to mean I accepts his living as much I accepts his death. I get it now. And I’m okay with accepting we don’t control life nor death. I’m set free thanks to you & my soul pet.

Through their emotions, the characters convey their emotions: sadness, happiness, a sense of powerlessness, and peace of mind. I have a fondness for the background music, it reminds me of the movie Arrive.

She loved him because he showed her what it is to be unbridled / He loved her because she showed him how it is to be subtle / A flower and its vine nurturing one another / Now a vine remains without the other Mariko knew she was doomed from the start and Blackthorne showed her to live even for just a little and she accepted what little time she has making the best of it all.

As a Pilot Major in the VOC Adams was a treasure trove of information on how western countries engage in naval warfare. Tokugawa couldn't just let military intelligence on a possible enemy walk away.)

Every year she asks him permission to kill herself to join her family in death and he denies her. Even at the end when he finally allows it and wants to kill himself with her she says 'never in a millions years id rather live forever than die with you'. She never wanted that Toda name it was just a way for her father to protect her. Her final words were to say she is Akechia Mariko not Toda Mariko is her way os saying her family and Toda is not her family

I am with you on that I like Yoko Shimada's version of Mariko much more She is one of the main reasons why I enjoyed the original Shogun series a lot more than the new Shogun series. I enjoyed both series though.
