Craftsmanship. I see Craftsmanship. Gaps are consistent as welds are. It sounds tight and solid. What a great job and configuration. I'm trying to configure yak hauler and sleeper. Side bar. My son helped me working on vehicles and building/remodeling. He now earns over 100,000 a year and never set foot in a college classroom or a tech school. He learned electricity, pneumatic, hydraulic, A/C, heating, and tools and techniques. We don't know what our Son's will be. We can only inspire and share our experiences and knowledge. And keep their hands full! But you know this.... Well done job on trailer. Really great job. It's all in the details and your well acquainted with details I see.

Hey buddy great video and the best explaining ive heard! Best part is you and your boys spending priceless time together and please tell them im proud of them too! Ive got a 4x6 toughest little trailer ive ever seen build that small. I dont know who built it but boy did they build it tough. Its got a solid sheet of steel floor in it i brlieve is 1/8 inch thick but it actualy maybe thicker. I was going to do what yall have done and then a buddy put a topper on me so i changed my mind with trailer and then another buddy put a round 70 or 71 Scottys camper on me so o changed plans again and then another buddy throwed a old 2 horse horse trailer on me so i changed AGAIN and i said NO more. So now im selling Scotty cqmper and horse trailer. Im going to do inside topper and build a overland trailer like yall with 4x6. Ive watched many videos but i couldnt figure out what type frame to use and most use tube steel. But you using angle is exactly what i need to do so thanks for that and many other ideas. I aint never done this so if you dont mind could spare one of your boys to come help and then It shouldnt take no time with them being experienced i sure would preciate it. By now i pray yall have had countless great days! Thanks and Happy Trails to yall!

GREAT BUILD! May I add GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE. Three year ago we bought a Smittybult Gen II, that's a story on its own, and mounted it on a 4x5 open trailer that we already had. Soon we started planning a new trailer. We stopped by Lowe's to compare and decided on a 4x6 is what we needed. We started designing and buying stuff, lights, fenders, latches etc. About a year ago I stumbled onto your build video and told my wife, look this guy has built my trailer. I live in middle Tn and go to the mountain regularly. Would like to someday meet up and compare. Loved that your spending time with kids and making them a part of it.

@@Tommy-rr7ez I didn't start with a pre-made trailer. I made a 4x6x2 ft box from 2x2x1/8 angle iron and went from there. It has 2000lb torsion axle that give it 20 in ground clearance. It only weighs about 1200lbs including gear.
@Tommy-rr7ez3 ай бұрын
@steven-ft5pz OH ok! No I was just joking! Your welcome to come but I preciate advice but my hardest part has been just getting started. What most videos I've seen used 2x2 tubular steel but he used angle and that's what i needed to see. Once I get the frame the rest won't be to bad. I won't to make sure it's tough enough to handle off road depending on where I go. The Scottys camper I got a few months ago has to be redone in the interior, water damage, but I looked at it and there is NO way it could ever handle overland. It's asphalt and campground only and that just won't work. I've got another piece of bare land in Cumberland Plateau that I need a tough trailer to be able the county road to get to it. The Scotty has a lot of parts I can use to do my 4x6 stove sink etc so if I don't sell it this week I will make good use out of it. I hope yall are enjoying yalls trailer and I can't wait to get mine done so I can get out there and go.
@steven-ft5pz3 ай бұрын
@@Tommy-rr7ez Yes I understand tough. I'd put mine against anybody. As far as frame it has a 2x3 tube entire length with receiver hitch in rear, tubing cross members support axles. If you look at mine and Ovrlnd east they are almost twins. Same shape, tent, even taillights. But I didn't start with utility trailer. I planed for a year, then started buying parts during covid when everything was hard to get and took about a year to build. We go thru Cookeville and Crossville periodically wouldn't mind ya seeing mine. Maybe we can hookup someday.

we did the same thing with our overland build but we ordered our axle from Dexter and they had mounted the spring perches on the wrong side so that it was above the spring. we wanted it below the spring. You really should weld on perches to the correct side because flipping the axle sets the preload of the axle the wrong direction. All axles have a slight bend to them and you can see when you flipped it the preload is now upside down. Just a heads up.

@brunothehumble3 жыл бұрын
I recently came into a 3x5 trailer and am wanting to build some variety of off road trailer out of it and I’m bouncing around the idea of mounting one or two Optima batteries in a tongue box and setting up a heavy power connection using Anderson plugs so the batteries in the trailer get charged by the alternator when the truck is running. Might opt for a battery isolation relay of some kind just to keep from accidently running the truck battery too low if I have the trailer connected but I’m still planning out details. The idea of an on board battery and an Anderson plug to the tow vehicle is pretty appealing to me.

Did you just rotate the axle 180 and remount it? There is a natural bend in the axle and you are supposed to attach new perches on the top and keep the axle the same without rotating it to maintain the bend that is in the axle. The bend has a purpose to level the axle under load. Have you experienced any issues like uneven tire wear or it not tracking correctly?

I were you flipped it to the bottom of the Springs right there? Where the u boats go up. You could actually get you a plate of metal and actually drop that down with longer. You both put a couple of pieces of metal there, and then you can drop that whole thing down with you both just copy the top plate. The same metal plate did you both go in? Copy it onto another piece of metal and then stack your metal up. Get longer view bowls and then raise it up there you are.

Hey. The door jams are 1” angle and the frames are 3/4”. That allowed the doors to close flush once I added a little bit of weather striping. The inside of the 3/4 angle frames is 5/8” which worked perfect for the 5/8 plywood inserts. Hope this helps.
