Totally agree, doesn't get the respect he deserves. It's become "edgy" to hate on the guy.

Your response mirrors mine to this song - the lyrics, the voice .... and the fact that it is James' father in the video all combine to make this such a powerful video ...

Another comment told the story, however it did not include that a cousin came forward and donated and they are both doing well!

His dad had stage 4 kidney failure when James wrote this and a donor couldn't be found. After the video was released a distant cousin came forward who was a match. He donated all the profits from this song to Help For Hero's a UK veterans charity (both him and his dad were in the military)

A lovely and genuine reaction from you. James Blunt and his father were both Captains in the British Army (at different times obviously) and served with distinction. His dad had stage.4. cancer but recovered after a relative stepped forward to have a transplant. It's been over a decade since I cared for my father until he passed away and I was in floods. Fabulous song.

Ovuada, thank you for sharing your reaction to 'Monsters'. Glad you found it so moving. Something you might consider. James tears...moved you. As you notice...he didn't fight them, didn't wipe them away...didn't apologize for letting you see the breadth of what he felt. And that made you feel...powerfully feel...because he was so honest...so open...so transparent. Many reactors get caught up in trying to not cry, to keep swiping away or dabbing their tears...as if that had value to anyone but the reactor wanting to control their image online. Your observers of your reactions are far more focused on seeing and hearing the REAL you. You kept talking about how 'deep' the video is. May I offer...throw that label away...as it misleads...'deep'. Rather...substitute it with 'real'. He didn't use big words, didn't use complex arguments...just words that strip away the masks and costumes that people lug around everywhere to try to present to the world an image people believe the world wants more than they want the real person. The gift of your life...the gift of your expression...cannot be fully appreciated and nurtured...if first...you think an image is more important to your audience than breathing the real person...with tears and laughter...pain and joy. Be the gift...the universe brought forward after 13.5 billion years. If I can't enjoy you sharing something so powerful that you're blubbering sloppy tears with snot running out of your nose...then can I really ever enjoy you...or do I want the Ovuada-mannequin to look pretty...and petitely say to me...'that was so deep'...acting the same as if it wasn't? mark

This was written by James after his father was told it was highly unlikely that he would get the life-saving transplant he desperately needed. The good news is that only a few weeks after the song and video (yes that is James' dad) was released a donor was found and thankfully a couple of years on, his Dad is still alive

SUCH a Universal theme EVERYONE can relate to ; mortality of a parent .... So many grown MEN and women crying in reactions to this song on youtube . Until now , most people only know james blunt for his most famous song that i added in comment below / you may have heard it somewhere in the past ...

First off, Miss Ovuada, I appreciated much your reactions and comments, but just as you say as the song was very tugging at the heart, at the same time it was also very beautiful. James made this video at the same time his father was dying of kidney failure and due to the fact that the dad had a rare blood type, no volunteer donors for a kidney transplant could be found, so time was getting close to Jame's father dying. That really is Jame's dad popping up towards the end of the video. Jame's producers did not want him to perform this video with his dad, as they felt it would be too unprofessional, however, James in wanting to pay tribute to his father, insisted. Although he was very emotional and indeed did sing out of key a few times, he gave a very raw but sincere and honest performance. Again, we did appreciate your 'sincere' reactions, which give us all a glimmer of hope for humanity in our caring and feeling for one another...
