Can you imagine writing a song that caused so many people to bawling their eyes out?? The pressure of that is something I couldn't imagine.. I really hope James realizes just how many people around the world he touched through that expression of his love for his dad..

As a metal fan...I adore James Blunt. He is a proper warrior, more balls than a lot of the people I follow in metal, and to serve his country like his father... what a legend. Massive respect.

I only noticed James B after listening to sacrifice which he sung with Ed Sheeran. I’m from the Ed generation and thought he is a excellent talent. When they sung to Sacrifice together J. Blunt his voice just drowned and overwhelmed Ed. Since then I’ve sincerely become a Blunt fan . Unbelievable talent

James didn't mention that his dad only had one kidney because he had previously donated one of his to someone else. Also, a suitable donor was found after responding to the video. So really, the video saved his father's life.

Very good clip. I have lost two sets of parents, the first just after my adoption. The second before I was ten. I didn't know them, they didn't know me. Now, in my sixties this song touched me deep, opened trains of thought I had buried, wrongly - now I am rethinking and redefining my opinions.

We know it is so deeply personal for James and I'm sure he knows it has affected others but I don't think he realizes how MUCH it has affected and how many. It is such an incredible song that literally everyone can apply in their lives! Lost my father in 2018 and can never listen to this song without at the very least get watery eyed. I was able to have a last conversation with my father a few days before his passing and having that opportunity to express my love and appreciation for him, to him, was such a great blessing! Thank you James for one of my all time favorite songs that I cannot get enough of!!

Believe it or not the first time I heard this song was just yesterday, I don’t have a lot of free time, even though I’m at full-time cancer survivor, not to mention having Crohn’s disease that resulted in having 95% of my entire G.I. tract removed through 37 operations, and allowed me The opportunity to spend my last days with my parents. If I never got sick and was working full-time, I would never have that chance. My father is 88 and my mother is 90. My dad was forced to stop driving due to health concerns, so for the past year or so they depend solely on me for their survival. I’m at their place at least four times a week doing everything for them. My mom is going to live to be over 100, but dad is fading fast. After quadruple bypass, broken, hip, diabetes, hypothyroidism, arthritis, and countless other health problems, each time I go, I’m seeing him fade away piece by piece, day by day, and I’m terrified that one day soon, I’ll go and he’ll be gone forever. I don’t have to wait for someone to die to know how much I love them, how much they mean to me. My parents adopted me when I was nine months old, both working so hard their whole lives to give me an incredible life. My dad sacrificed everything for me, taking me to hockey games, baseball games, basketball games, volleyball games, all of which I completely sucked at, but he didn’t care, he was just proud of me. He did everything he could to give me every opportunity imaginable, he went way above and beyond, and for that, I will always be eternally grateful, but more than that, the love he made sure I knew about, every day, telling me how much he loves me, is the icing on the cake, but after he’s gone, it will be the dagger in my heart. Yesterday, when I watch the video for the first time, I was a train wreck. I have never cried that much in my life, because it just brought back a flood of memories, of happier times, of the joy, the laughter, and his never ending devotion. As a father, I know I have to take his place, as this song says, “we’re just two grown men saying goodbye”. I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to say goodbye, I’ve lost a lot of loved ones in my life, but never have I lost anyone this close to me. I have to take care of my mother too, and that’s going to help me get through this, because I’ll need to be able to comfort her, and I’m hoping that will help me not completely fall to pieces when he passes away. He has only a few days left, I’m watching him right now, watching him breathe, trying to remember every single line and crease in his face, his voice, everything about him. I wrote his eulogy along time ago, because I knew that when it happened, I wouldn’t have the fortitude or the strength to write it then. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Even though I am 54, when you lose a parent, you might as well be 10 years old, because it hurts like hell. My father heard this song last night, he wanted me to play it for him, it’s the first time in my life I’ve ever seen my father cry. He’s very loving, but seldom ever shows his own sorrow, but this song has the ability to pull emotions From deep with inside us to the surface, and forces us to face them. Dad said he was crying remembering his father, who died from a stroke when he was only 66 years old. Now he tells me he wants me to play this song at his funeral, I told him I don’t know if I could, it would destroy everybody in the room, and to be very selfish, it would absolutely obliterate me. I know it’s something that we all have to face, but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier. God I wish I could hold onto him forever, or let me die first. I don’t want to live in a world without him😰😫😰😫😰😫

1 addition to mr. blunts writing the Monsters song.. Blunts sister saw how bad he was hurting and wrote a poem for him in a gesture to help him heal, Blunt made a few lyrical changes to match the beat and tempo also some word pronounciation. That might have added more sadness to his perfomance thinking abou how close he came to losing his father along with wanting his sister to be proud of her poem, along with feeling the pain that mr. Tongi was going through and wanting this performance to be very special for him whenever he remembers performing with Blunt... Just my thoughts after i learned the backstory of "Monsters"!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mr. Talent! I am a writer & my musical abilities used to be more. Played piano but always sang in Church, school glee clubs. But I write from pain as I can see you do! Very moving. I think Idol was the best this year & I haven't missed a competition since Day 1! I just fall apart when you perform! I'm German & Part Cherokee & alittle Irish. But I get through bad times by writing. My mid Cuz in Missouri & I are the writers & genealogy buffs. I've recently connected with LaineyWilson who I b adore & have told her to come to Corning CA where I live & eventually get to play @ our big Obsidian Amphitheater. Brad Paisley was there last night but didn't get tickets in time. Dierks Bentley comes in Aug. & want to attend. Well I'm a talker, so better stop. My ex has been a Blues musician since 60's & has slowed down for having major shdr surgery. Was successful. Please never give up singing! It's a powerful thing! Thank you for being so kind to Iam. Very special! Take care & happy music 🎶 ❤
