After one long year of peace negotiations, the Rwanda government under President Juvenal Habyarimana and the rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front led by Colonel Alexis Kanyarengwe signed a peace accord in Arusha, Tanzania. The historic date was 4th August 1993, raising hopes that the civil war, which started when RPF invaded Rwanda from Uganda on 1st October 1990 was coming to an end.The event was witnessed by several world leaders, including Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Melchior Ndadaye of Burundi. Look out for faces you know in the second of a series of three, only on OwanaPaedia,…Just Facts!

Do you have videos of the party which followed the signing ? Those videos are more interesting because it's always in the party, with the help of alcohol, that people speak the truth to each other. Actually, it was in that fiesta that the Habyarimana cadres started to speak about the apocalypse that they were planning.

22:22 “What is more significant about the peace agreement we have today, is that it is the result of sustained efforts by Africans. It proves that we can make a difference, in terms of dealing with our own problems if we have the political resolve, & apply ourselves resolutely to the challenge of finding solutions to them. Our achievement today demonstrates that with good will, determination, patience, and perseverance it is possible to resolve our conflicts. It also shows , that where we manage to forge unity of purpose and action, where we demonstrate resolve & take the mantle of leadership… results serve as vindication of the decision taken recently… to create a mechanism within the OAU to deal with conflict prevention, management, & resolution. This mechanism will enable Africa to be at the core and play a key and central role in all efforts to achieving peace and security and stability on the continent…requires the full support of all member states so it can be transformed into a permanent and effective instrument for peace on our continent…” Dr Selim Ahmed Selim Secretary general OAU 4 August 1993

Honestly speaking it seems H.E Habyarimana was willing to implement the peace agreement including returning the Rwandese refugees that wanted to come back home . It's the Hutu extremists mainly the Interahamwe militia that did not want to implement the peace agreement & just wanted to eliminate all the Tutsis in Rwanda.
@mohammedyassien98

27:43 Some of the provisions were so unrealistic given the position of the protagonists , that it was almost impossible to implement them.” E.g. RPF into the Rwandan army was considered to be allowing foreigners into the army. Has this ever been successfully implemented anywhere in Africa? Return of all refugees to Rwanda which Habyarimana said was impossible but it was all agreed on and signed

At least 15,000 Tutsi people were murdered at Kibeho in 1994 in part because, according to the genocidaires’ public announcement, Col. Alexis Kanyarengwe had been “killed”! Mr. Second Twagirumukiza was a 37-year old mason from Kibeho, who survived the massacre at the parish of Kibeho in the prefecture [i.e. province] of Gikongoro. “On Sunday [April 10th, 1994] we went to the parish of Kibeho. We stayed there for 4 days. The bourgmestre [i.e. county chief] at the time, Charles Nyiridandi, came and asked the people from the commune of Mubuga to attend a meeting. It was about 9 a.m. So we went. He advised us to go back to our homes, assuring us of security. We pointed out that *our homes had already been burnt down.* He promised to provide us with accommodation. At the time, Nyiridandi was with 10 gendarmes [i.e. police officers] who he said would protect us. Then Bakundukize got up and spoke. He said, “We don’t want any Tutsis in this sector. President Habyarimana has been killed and *KANYARENGWE (CHAIRMAN OF THE RPF) HAS ALSO BEEN KILLED. SO WE NO LONGER WANT ANY TUTSIS IN THIS SECTOR.* No Tutsis will survive here.” Nyiridandi did not say anything to contradict him. [At this time Bakundukize was an agricultural extension agent. Shortly after this, he was promoted to Burgomaster]. So of course we all took to our heels and run back to the parish. At about 2 p.m. the same Wednesday [April 13th, 1994], there was an attack. Those who came *shooting* were few and the attackers disappeared because of our resistance. The sous-prefet [i.e. deputy governor] Damien Biniga, then brought a new group of gendarmes. He told us that the attackers were ‘bandits’ and assured us of our security. He left with the comment ‘Don’t worry about anything else. You just bury your dead.’ We buried those who had died in the attack, about 200 people. Some of the gendarmes then left to protect some of the refugees who had taken shelter in the Groupe Scolaire Marie Merci. The director of the school, a priest called Father Emmanuel Uwayezu, left with Biniga. The next day, Thursday, a group of villagers dressed in banana leaves attacked the parish from all corners at about 11 a.m. *The parish was full of people - the church, the school; everywhere you looked there were people.* We had put the women and children in the church and in the neighbourhood of the church. *BINIGA ARRIVED WITH A LOT OF SOLDIERS.* They took different positions and then started shooting into ordinary men, women and children. Then the villagers came in and started macheting. I myself had ended up in the church in my efforts to escape death. Like all the men, I had been outside. Our plan had been to reserve the church, which we thought would be the safest place, for women and children. […] At about 6 or 6:30 p.m., when it began to get dark, hey stopped the shooting. I crawled under some corpses, deliberately covering myself with as many dead bodies as possible. But around 10 p.m., the shooting started again, even though it was late at night. I slipped out and hid inside a latrine. As I had helped to construct the latrine, I knew there were metal bars inside. So I stood on the metal bars. In the morning, I heard many footsteps. I thought it must be the footsteps of fellow survivors. But when I looked, I saw only people wearing banana leaves. So I ducked back into the latrine. At about 5 a.m., I heard the sound of a vehicle, and then *I heard somebody give instructions. He was saying ‘You guard all the doors.’* The next moment, I heard the cry of children. Then I heard voices saying ’Send them back into the church.’ Suddenly, the church was on fire. *The cries of children screaming ‘We are burning’ became louder.* The cries died down as the church burned. The attackers then left. I remained in the latrine all day long. I finally left on Sunday night, at about 9 p.m. I did not have a problem leaving. By then the killers were comfortably in their beds, sure they had finished their job.”

Mr Owana. I need your help on how to develop my channel. I have watched your channel grow. Can you help me grow mine.???
@OWANAPAEDIA
@OWANAPAEDIA 4 жыл бұрын
@SlimDaddy Thanks for visiting OwanaPaedia. To enable your channel grow, there are a number of things you have to do and I will list some few here but the major thing is to build great content. 1. You first have to understand your audience, with that you can easily know there preferences and what the kind of content to publish . For Example this is a history channel and whoever visits it would expect history nothing else and it is now our role to publish strictly history related content unless otherwise. 2. There quality of videos you produce must be at least viewable and with great content. 3. Build Videos Around a Single Keyword/Topic. E.g Music, Entertainment History etc 4. Reformat Existing Quality Content. The easiest way to grow your channel is to build great content. But that content doesn’t always have to be built from scratch. Some of your best videos can be built from engaging, valuable, useful and actionable content you’ve already created. 5. Engage with Your Audience. It's important not to overlook the fact that KZbin is a social media channel, and therefore demands social interaction. 6. Get Branded. So your content is great. But is your channel itself visually appealing? If you want visitors to take your KZbin channel seriously and subscribe to your channel, you need to look professional. Branding your channel will also help users immediately recognize your content. 7.Promote Your KZbin Videos on Other Social Channels . 8. Show Up. If you’re running KZbin by yourself or as part of a small organization, it can be extremely beneficial to put your own face on screen. When you put a face to a brand, your audience can more easily connect with you as an individual. 9.Post Great Thumbnails. They may seem like a small thing (because they are), but thumbnails can have a big impact. KZbin advertises other videos via thumbnail in its sidebar, so you want yours to stand out among the pack. The same goes for KZbin search. Videos with a catchy title and appealing thumbnail usually rank higher, even if the content itself isn’t as valuable, because they have a higher click-through-rate. 10. Leverage KZbin Cards We’ve already discussed the fact that KZbin rewards channels that keep viewers on their pages longer. These longer average watch times mean people are truly engaged with your content. (You can see how long people are staying on your videos by using KZbin analytics). By adding KZbin cards, you can add additional recommended videos at the exact point where users are currently dropping off. Though they may abandon that video, users will be taken to your other content and stay on your channel, increasing your channel’s ranking. 11.Push for Subscriptions. One of the ways you know for sure that viewers are engaged with your channel is when they “subscribe’ to see any new videos that are posted. Ask viewers to subscribe to your channel in each video that you upload, and keep engaged with your existing subscribed users. 12. Increase Your Uploading Frequency DON'T FORGET TO PRAY

All the nations were willing to help Rwandase to reach a peace agreement .It was good faith but very naive. President Mobutu was not qualified to be a mediator .His long term support for Habyarimana regime was very well known . Habyarimana authority and leadership was questionned in Rwanda, he could no longer rightfully represent all new tendancies in Rwanda. Col Kanyarengwe as chairperson of RPF was just tactical as later event will unveil it. Two personality without a " legitimate " authority sign a peace agreement under a contested mediator. The major problem was to understand to protagonists here : there is a saying in Kinyarwanda that goes this way : someone can hide to you that he hates you ,and you you will hide to him that you know it . The first people to believe in this peace process should have been Rwandese themselves .I don't think at all that they believed it. The peace process was concocted for them as a bitter medecine to swallow ! Under l don't know which pressure an agreement was reached and celebrated by Zaïre ,Tanzania ,Belgium ,USA , France... And six months later ,Rwanda was engulfed in one of the terrible man slaughter of the history of humanity . Many lessons to learn from this...
