The funny thing is if you listen to the lyrics. They aren't actually sad. It's about overcoming sadness. And just being. Letting the world exist. Because we can find beauty everywhere. Dance a little. Live life. And find what fits you. Stop worrying about doing something and take a walk. Listen to the breeze for a while and feel confident you can do it. For me, this song hurts. But it also heals. The schoolwide abuse that I went through in middle school really messed me up. "Heaven knows I could really use a friend" during those times, but none were found. At the end of my time, I stood up to my bullies in a violent fashion, vowing to never again be afraid. Soon after, I moved to a new city and started again. This time, I met my now best friend at my locker on the first day of high school. I'm 21 years old now, and the end of this song still makes me tear up. Because I can visualize us both chatting it up as we walk into the crowd of students and disappear, and the rest is history.

THat's sort of the nature of the whole song I think, personally. This song always sounded like someone who was in a lost and depressed state for a good while, and this is the breakthrough moment where, they might still be feeling pretty bad, but the hope of help on the way and a helping hand extended toward them is clear in sight...they are just hoping the hand doesn't disappear because it will take them a while to get up off the ground. ...if that makes any sense xD

Spice Princess Art When I hear this song, I think about my terrible experience when I was 14, when I moved from the south to the midwest (US) and received pretty brutal treatment from my peers. I had just lost everything I'd ever known, and no matter how hard I tried to make friends, no one would have me. It became the school pastime to pick on me. I was very alone. So alone that I even considered suicide at one point. But there came a day when my family finally found a house instead of an apartment, and moved me to a new school district. And my first day of high school, I met my best friend at my locker. I noticed she had a pokemon keychain too, and that was that. Now 21, I always imagine us walking out of the school together, smiling and laughing, during the last few stanzas of this song, and it makes whatever tough stuff I'm going through feel pretty insignificant. It's amazing how such terrible experiences can make us smile in the end, if you only find the right music.

This song brings me back to the old innocent me, playing Little Big Planet with my friends. Playing and making goofy levels, having the time of our lives. If only we knew how much we'd cherish those memories. I miss being a kid. As I've gotten older, this song continues to gain more meaning. My favourite lyric is the following: "Your spirit is sweet, so pull of your sheet and give me a ghost of a smile. Show me your teeth cause you're a teddy beneath, so just grin and bare it a while." There's this girl I'm really sweet on. She acts tough on the outside, but on the inside she's a big ol' softie. I absolutely love her. (I say this because I know several people with it) Aspergers also makes it hard for the person to understand and express their emotions, and sometimes those of other people. Which I suppose is why they always come out in such unique ways in his songs, why he doesn't just do what all the other musicians do and rehash the same cheesy phrazes over and over again. I think he's creating his own phrazes, that he's not childish, he's a visionary. It's like musical poetry. I love it ^-^
