That is one way to look at it, but having been in that boat, I find it irritating when people don't commit to train a dog. Hopefully they continued Victoria's training. These two do seem like they want to keep working, because the saddest thing is when you go, you teach the owners what to do, you show them that it works, but the moment you are out they let lazyness, frustration and anger to overcome them and stop doing the training before the problem is solved and things go back to where it started. And even worse than that is when they go around telling people that the trainer was bad and their training didnt work, even though they were the ones that didn't keep it. Studies shows that one of the biggest reason for behavioral problems that result in abandonment and euthansia of dogs is due unrealist expectations of dog owners. So please guys, think a lot and do a lot research before getting a dog. Do not get a dog if you expect them to be easy, calm, and unexpensive. Any pet is a HUUUUGE reponsibility, they need proper care, education and love, just like a child. But remember, they are not human, their needs are not the same as ours. Treating a dog like a human baby does not equal to treating him right, SPECIALLY for small dogs.

Yeah...but that‘s kind off hard when you get an older dog. My mom brought home an 7month old Jack Russel. It was an impulse buy,he wasn‘t even from a breeder. He came from a drug using home(not saying that everyone who uses drugs are bad). He wasn‘t potty trained. Couldn‘t do sit or any comand,didn‘t even respond to his name. Now 3 years later we have him pretty much under control. But sometimes, when he sees another dog he just goes into tunnel vision and once he‘s in there theres nothing you can do to bring him back. Not even the tastiest food. He calms down after sniffing their rear ends tho, if it’s a dog that’s visiting or there to supposedly play with him, but you can‘t do that with every dog you see on the streets.

It might help if they would walk their dogs together daily - make them feel more like a pack. Worth a try.
@satsujin40274 жыл бұрын
The idea is reallu good for sure, but when it comes to the whole "feel like a pack" is not actually right. Recent studies have been shown that dogs might not actually for packs. Actually wolves don't form packs either, they form families (that whole alpha, omega stuff was debunked by the same guy that came up with it, except people insisted on spreading this misinformation to this day). In the case of dogs, observations with dogs that live in the street show that most of them chose to stay alone. They get together with other dogs but more like a form of socialization, to play, but after that each dog leaves alone. So chances are that dogs do npt naturally chose to live in packs and we've been assuming this based on misinformations and misinterpretations.
@klaudiacebula22984 жыл бұрын
@@satsujin4027 Just to add to what you said cause I think it's interesting, there was a study done on two groups of wild dogs, one living in a place with an abundance of food and one living in a place with very limited resources shared between multiple other species. The dogs with easy access to food chose to stay alone and only came together to defend the territory when the need arised while the dogs having limited resources chose to stay, travel and feed in a pack. So it might be that forming a pack in both dogs and wolves is purely out of necessity rather than choice

@@klaudiacebula2298 Wow, that's a very interesting research. Is there a page/video where I can read/see it too? As for the pack debate thing, it is absolutely a fact that dogs are pack animals. Otherwise they would not have such high communication skills, and some of their behaviours are pack behaviour. BUT I personally hypothesise that dogs form a pack WITH HUMANS rather than dogs. The research you've described adds to my hypothesis as well. I've seen several videos and a research about separation anxiety, and in those videos dogs got separation anxiety when left alone even if they had another dog living with them. This is absurd because many owners get multiple dogs specifically because they don't want them feeling lonely when the owner is away. It didn't matter how many dogs there were - they still got separation anxiety. They don't display the same behaviour when one dog (ex)goes to the vet. It's only when it's the owner that leaves. We all know that dogs were created to help humans to do tasks, and that the process involved living with those wolves/proto-dogs from puppyhood. Dogs were created to be reliant ON HUMANS. So over the course of creating the dog, their pack mentality has shifted from themselves to humans. Also, if you look at stray dog videos, they're pretty scattered apart and uncoordinated unlike a wolf pack. They live in groups rather than a real pack.

I hope that you put on the full episode of this one. Those owners completely loved their dogs. They made the situation worse, but not through malicious intent, through lack of knowledge and understanding of dog body language/behaviour. @@Cassxowary That is not what Terrie is saying. Terrie is saying that originally, we bred dogs for specific purposes. Like foxhounds for hunting foxes. Yorkshire terriers and dachshunds are both bred as hunting dogs. This means they have a killer instinct hard-wired into their genetic code. It's simply their nature, it doesn't make them objects or any less sentient. They just have instincts, like any other animal, that we had a hand in encouraging by genetically selecting dogs that were better killers than others. They're still members of the family, still individuals with their own personalities, but it's deeper than that. They're not just fuzzy little human beings. They're different, and that's okay. People just need to learn to understand those differences. They operate on different logic.

I’m unsure if the dogs were brought together at the same time or if one came before the other but sometimes when you have just 1 dog for a while and it gets used to being the only dog in the house, it can be really problematic to bring another dog into the household because the first dog could feel threatened and like it has to compete for food or attention.
