Who knows? It could well be in the corporation's long term plan, to buy up "at risk" cemeteries in an attempt to preserve them so as to keep them from deteriorating or falling into the wrong hands.

One of the people interested in buying it has family laid to rest there. So the point of buying it is to keep the place clean and kept up. Unfortunately it takes money to keep the grounds anywhere clean, even a cemetery. Got to say, it is the first time I have heard of this, that's for sure.

My parents are buried here. William and Mary Ann Dowd. This story sent a chill thru my body. This why I believe in cremations. When I was in High School, 1965, this cemetery needed to widen the road on the north east corner. They ended up digging up bodies buried in that corner and moved them someplace else in this cemetery. I haven't been there since 1998. Another reason for cremations, you can keep people in your family close to you!

I hope it doesn't end up like some we saw in the midwest last summer. there were headstones on a small patch of grass on a street corner, just past the sidewalk. makes me wonder how many people weren't moved and ended up under the road and under the parking lot on the other side of the grass. that was so wrong.

@@TRUTHRULES777 I doubt a developer would buy a cemetery to build on. It’s no surprise that most developers are cheap. They want to build something at the lowest cost possible. Exhuming potentially hundreds of bodies from a cemetery is far from a cheap process. That’s why developers typically target old building or empty lots. It’s far cheaper to demolish an old building than go through the careful process of exhuming human remains. This is precisely why you still see cemeteries. They are not worth building new development on.

My Mom passed away 2 days ago. She was very superstitious so she never bought a plot or burial plans in advance. So it was up to me and my sister to buy her plot and arrange for everything. Earlier today I got her a plot plus labor for burial at around $3600. I don't think thats really excessive. it depends on location and also if you go to thru a middle man. The cemetery I bought the plot was in Renton. Wa. They don't sell in advance. I inquire two weeks earlier they won't sell me a plot until I have a death certificate. These prevent greedy individuals from buying plots and selling them for profits.@@FlintYeastwood
