I updated to Marshmallow yesterday and it seems to have breathed new life into my Galaxy S5. Daily usage is a breeze and the fingerprint scanner feels more accurate, I like this phone a lot more now

how to update it into marshmallow??
@osirismartinez10558 жыл бұрын
+Singer Omay Go to Settings, then go to System Updates, then touch the Check For Updates section and it should let you know the update is ready. If it's not there then you may have to wait until your carrier approves the update, and in that case just check that section of the phone regularly until it shows the update is ready

Probably the best screen at 1080p to date. Looks great. Rooting and running cm or aosp or even flashing the note 7 grace UX on it is spectacular. You can carry extended batteries. If you care to carry old phone this one is no Brainer and can be purchased at a fraction of most today with worse hardware.

I picked this phone up when it came out and haven't changed it because I don't need to. I highly recommend it, especially now that some carriers are offering it for $0 on a 2 year contract. Get it and a spare battery, tempered glass protector, impact case, 128 GB micro SD card and you'll be set for years. Root it and get the S7 custom ROM if you want. This device ages extremely well compared to its contemporaries. I don't know what this guy thinks he's talking about when he says he's a power user. Maybe a bad battery. I multitasking and use popular apps. I don't know about "gaming" on it because I have a PC and consoles. I open and close the cover for the usb/charge port thousands of times and it is like new. The fit and finish is attractive...not that it matters seeing as everybody that pretends to care covers their phone in a case. Bottom line: S5 was a beast at launch and it holds it's own easily to this day. Running Android 6.0.1 with ease.

On 6.0.1 battery life is better because of Doze, and the fingerprint scanner is a lot better too because that functionality is built-in the OS now and before it was a function created by samsung.

i have an S5. it never overheated. it doesn't lag that much. only if i'm exiting a game maybe for few seconds then it goes normal. I runs android 6.0.1 since late April or early May. The battery lasts an entire day with 4h SOt on average. sometimes it goes to 6hours when indoors. the fingerprint used to be inaccurate but it works fine for me. in conclusion i think you have a defaulted unit or maybe you run those carriers non-optimized ROMs The S5 isn't the greatest phone out there but for the price/features i'm down for it.

my g900t the fingerprint reader is accurate and fast, when setting up your fingerprint tilt your finger from side to side and swipe with the tip and half, to make the program learn your"bad" swipes as well my unit does get pretty hot at times, but in the settings i just backed the maximum speed of the cpu down from 2.5ghz down to 2 or 2.2 and lowered the default Minimum down all the way to 300mhz doing that , and keeping the screen set to adaptive mode, keeps my battery pretty happy honestly. i work at a metropcs/tmobile, and to this day, the samsung galaxy s5 is my fav unit to come out. + setting an ir blaster program up with a sony universal remote code is fun when you wander around buestbuy or target and can change the channels on about 20 tvs all at once and wander off

I have a galaxy S5 and I am also a power user. I can run about 20 apps at times including a game that I'm busy playing and music because I am constantly listening to music. I agree the battery doesn't last as long as I'd like but by configuring the settings properly I manage to make it through a day with about 40% in the end. Marshmallow will be released for the galaxy S5 smg900f and it will be an OTA update so hang in there your update is coming. I am running a galaxy S7 ROM port so my phone has all of the S7 features including the edge screen. If you want marshmallow now, you can flash it manually with odin and this won't void your warranty, and won't trip the KNOX counter.
@yogigar8 жыл бұрын
I also experienced a performance improvement after flashing MM. But now I'm using Insanity ROM (S7 edge MM for S5). Battery drains, overheats, clumsy performance sometimes... BUT IT ROCKS!!!
@keayrhyasen30718 жыл бұрын
i had the same battery problems with the S5 when i first got it and after Samsung's first mandatory update, all my phone calls dropped after 20 seconds. the Support at T-mobile got frustrated more so than i did... but it wasn't anything rooting the phone and loading Cyanogen CM11 couldn't fix. i don't need fingerprint tech or the heartbeat monitor or the S-health garbage and once it was gone, no problems with calls or battery life. using this phone mostly for work, calls and texts are vital and even then, i could go two days before needing to charge the battery. as of now, i'm running CM13 with Marshmallow 6.0.1 and using the One On One camera. after repairing my Note 3 and loading the S7 Edge on it, i'll mod this with S7 Edge also, replace my cracked screen and sell it off since it's rooted and unlocked. this is a great phone... once you get rid of the Samsung Bloatware xD

This is probably my favorite phone :D ... has a removable battery, the screen is gorilla glass I believe. I would still get a screen protector though, you can use this phone as a remote, there is a heart rate sensor, really nice back camera, It's waterproof, you get roughly 14 hours of usage out of this phone it depends what your doing on it... I would carry an extra battery this is the type of phone that will die on you during the middle of the day... (Minor annoyances I've experienced) I'm on an old update so some of these are probably resolved -Lots of force closes, probably has to do with Samsung's UI, (I wouldn't recommend flashing roms if you don't know what your doing, I went to cyanogen mod and now all is good, over clocked the CPU, changed the CPU governor the phone lasts twice as long now...) -Major lag, overheating when running too many apps... (have only experienced this on the stock rom) -Rooting issues, Knox tries to prevent you from rooting this phone, very annoying... -It cracks really easily get a good case for this phone, I recommend a otterbox or griffin case... Other than that this phone is amazing I rate this phone a 7 out of 10 :) jessejjshark

I've still got one of these running the stock Samsung Android 5.0 firmware. Only thing I don't like about it is the battery life. By the way if you have crashes or poor battery life, do a factory reset and buy a fresh battery. Admittedly once you install a bunch of apps on it the battery will be poor again. Still the the battery is replaceable and you can carry another spare battery in the ziploc antistatic bag it came in.

They set their thermal throttling ridiculously. If you use Ktoonsez kernel, the phone will get hot but you can set the thermal throttling to start at 77 Celsius degrees and to stop at 75 and to limit the frequency not any less than 1.497Mhz max and if you do so, your S5 will be better than almost any phone out there. Stupid people complain when the phone get phone gets hot but it's an electronic device... I'm a power user and I wouldn't use any other phone.
