I read that the parents refused to take him home. Based on the school’s recommendation that the teen get counselling within 48 hours, I get the sense they were thinking he was suicidal and not homocidal or an active school shooter carrying a gun. In mental health situations like this, I’m sure schools will now check lockers and bags and call police and possibly also children and family services and these kids will definitely not be allowed to return to class or return to school unless cleared by a psychiatrist to do so.

Firstly i empathize with your anger and frustration. I hate what this kid did with all of my heart. However, we dont know all the facts, and I would like to see the parents take on something of a bigger part due to their HUGE part in the incident. We also have no idea what was going on in this guy's life. If they can prove he was truly and heartlessly committing the crime, then perhaps he deserves such a punishment. But say for example (and I'm not saying this is true) the kid wanted to die by law. Should he get his wish? Finally, they've got some indication that this kid was maybe insane. I honestly think of anyone is gonna get a dp then the parents should be in the running for giving him a firearm, being negligent and irresponsible, and responding offhandedly when faced with the request to discipline their son. There's just so much and so many people that it's hard to pin it on just one person in a way. Obviously that kid should get a big sentence, but is he the only one to blame?

@@frank8348 I understand that the programming and everything is lax in the US prison system. I am a huge advocate for criminal justice reform. That being said, there are people in the system that truly care, that will treat criminals like human beings if prisoners are lucky enough to find them. I think that's a huge part of why people resort to crime in the first place and why they continue with it. People in the US are treated like rats in a maze, like numbers on a spreadsheet but never as people by the systems in the grand design. When people go to prison, they are caged like animals and treated like animals in a zoo. Other countries like Norway, treat prisoners in ways that would offend Americans. I watched a documentary where a reporter embedded in a Norwegian prison and the warden of the prison greets every prisoner that comes in with a hug and tells them that everything will be okay. Obviously, that couldn't happen in the US because criminals are brought to prisons by the truckload because recidivism is so high. Recidivism rates are crazy low in Norway.

Nope. He is only 15 years old. His young brain is not fully developed yet. This is what will happen. He’ll be convicted…that’s not the issue. What will happen is that every mental health expert will be arguing and fighting for his release in about ten years or less. It’s unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life in prison…which means that mental health experts will argue that his brain is not fully developed….he’s not responsible for his actions. In less than ten years those same mental health experts will be fighting in court for this kid to be released, based on the fact that he had a 15 year old undeveloped brain at the time of the shootings. They’ll get him released, in less than ten years, he’ll be given a nice little job, a nice place to live and the opportunity to write a book about how his parents were bad people who abused him, didn’t raise him with any values and were the worst people on earth….and he’ll make millions off it. While you go to your crappy low paying job every day, pay your taxes, abide by the laws and struggle to make ends meet…..this kid will be swimming in millions of dollars off the sale of that book. This will happen in about ten years. Remember what I just said and in ten years…..you’ll see.

The biggest fault in our society is you need to have a license to own a gun but you do not need a license to have children. Have as many as you want and bring them up anyway you want or even neglect them if you want. No license required or any checks on whether you are suitable to be a good parent. Maybe it is time to change that and make parenting a licensed privilege.

People used to be forcibly sterilized. And in some cases mandatory hysterectomies are being performed in the immigration centers. Surprisingly there are many women who would voluntarily undergo a hysterectomy the moment they reach adulthood as they don't ever want children. Just pesky ethics and needing a "medical reason" and all. The pro lifers would lose it if women were allowed to have their reproductive organs removed on demand.
