As a prospective PPE applicant, I cannot even begin to express how incredibly useful these videos are, and how very kind it is of Prof. Williams to take the time to help applicants, and especially us international ones, who would not have access to this sort of information normally. This is my dream college and I want to study law in Oxford. I’m in 9th grade and I’m going to start looking at exams to see what I want to study as much as I can to get there. I feel motivated now just by looking at these law students achieving goals. This is very helpful thank you.

That's good u are starting early. When I was in highschool, I didnt really start thinking about setting myself up for college and the future too much until 11th grade. Now I'm not going to a school as prestigious as Oxford but besides just studying, u gotta do a lot of extracurriculars to make urself stand out.

Law requires great oral and communication skills. Would being an international student put me on a disadvantage in the application process? I am not as perfect as native speakers who study English language or literature A levels, however, I study A levels and predicted 3A* ( which include an essay-style subject).
@JesusCollegeOxford15714 жыл бұрын
We have lots of students studying law that do not have English as a first language. Your English is clearly superb, so I don't think you should feel nervous about applying on that basis. Given your fantastic predicted A-levels, you will stand an excellent chance if you apply. All best wishes

When at the interview, do they supply you with the extract to read immediately or do they give it to you before hand so you can study it first?
@JesusCollegeOxford15712 жыл бұрын
This varies. Most often you will have time in advance to read the text, because some people need longer than others to read, or may need special provisions in place. Blind or partially sighted applicants, for example, could not be expected to read a text during the interview. But it's not unusual to be given some text in an interview, provided that any special provisions have been accounted for, and the text is reasonably short.

Thanks for your comment! The PS may be raised in your interview, so be prepared to talk about it. Tutors will be most likely to discuss something you have stated an opinion on in the PS. They may ask you to elaborate on your thoughts.

@JesusCollegeOxford15713 жыл бұрын
Yes, you stand a chance. There are no particular A-levels required for law, so you should in theory be able to transition from natural sciences to law. You will need to perform well on the LNAT test, so please take a look at my video on that.

Hi- I‘m a little bit late to this, but would it be possible to cover a music interview as there are so few youtube videos covering the kinds of questions/topics covered? Thanks for the great videos! 😊
@JesusCollegeOxford15713 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! Music is a bit beyond my purview, but here are some past interview questions you can have a think about: Do you feel that music is an art incomparable to history in that history cannot be performed? How had the piano developed by the time of Beethoven? How is music related to free will? How do you think the current economic climate will affect music? Why has music developed the way it has? Consider the Spice Girls and football anthems with reference to functionality of music Which venue do you most like to play in acoustically? What would your desert island disc be? If you had to invent a new musical instrument, what kind of sound would it make? Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Discuss

The official line is this: An essay subject can be helpful when completing this course but is not required for admission.

I failed the interview at Oxford. They asked me if I applied anywhere else, and I said I had an offer from LSE and Kings. "Cambridge?" they asked. "No, London," I said." Why do you want to go to London?" "Because it's next to the courts and inns of courts," I said. "Thank you very much" they said. And that's how I failed my interview. And went to King's... London. And found out I hated law anyway.

I would find it extremely useful if there were a video of the experimental psychology interview, I’ve been very lost as to what to expect in terms of whether it will be based on scientific knowledge or more just critical thinking questions. Could we get a video on this if possible?
@JesusCollegeOxford15714 жыл бұрын
Experimental psychology is a little bit out of my wheelhouse I’m afraid. A past question for EP was “what is normal?”. This is a great question because it entails the conceptual complication of what normality means, but also the methodological question of how you could measure normality in a population.

@JesusCollegeOxford15714 жыл бұрын
No, you're not expected to know the meaning or definitions of legal terms. You are absolutely entitled to ask if for clarification if the interviewers use a term you're not familiar with. But, it is unlikely that they will use technical jargon in an interview.
