The US Constitution is actually an oligarchic document, written and ratified by a tiny minority of wealthy white men and designed to perpetuate the power of their class. That's why we have the Electoral College, gerrymandering, an unreviewable Supreme Court appointed for life, an unrepresentative Senate, states in charge of determining who can vote and how--and the list goes on. That's how corporations and the 1% have managed to dominate throughout the history of the republic.

The success or failure of a democracy is defined by three elements, 1) constitution definng the proper elements of democracy, 2) the integrity of the institutions to first hold to the words and spirit of that constitution, 3) the people's ability to take part in the democratic institutions. The US constitution is vague in so many parts that the Supreme court has interpret in ways that allows their own biases to manifest. The integrity of the institutions is degrading and evidenced with so many Supreme court decisions (that the president can't be charged criminally, that police have immunity from flagrantly bad acts, that gerrymandering is beyond their power to ejudicate, that money is speach, that corporations are people....) There is the failing integrity of legislatures that engage in gerrymandering, and that define the powers of government offices depending on the party of the person holding office. There is the failing in that the purpose of government is now, not in service to the people, but to the interest of the richest of the rich and corporations. Voter suppression is rampant, especially in the south. reducing the peoples ability to take part in the democratic process.

The United States "democracy" allows the voters in the presidential and Congress election to choose between candidates of (usually) the Republican and Democratic parties (only), that the rich / wealthy and big corporations installed as candidates, using their huge donations. So, this is clearly not the kind of democracy that a democratic country should have. As long as so many Americans continue to vote for the two mainstream political parties (Republican and Democratic), both which are aligned with the extreme implementation of Capitalism in the United States, the country will continue to endure financial hardship caused by inflation and other adverse outcomes of Capitalism, such as health system run by insurance companies for profit, rising fuel and grocery prices and a huge inequality. It's time for implementing Socialism in the U.S., similar to the one with Chinese characteristics that's implemented in China, or at least the Social Welfare Model of some European countries, by all conscientious people starting to vote for the Socialist Party of the United States.
