there is love as a fleeting sensation or feeling, and then there is love in a relationship, which are two different things. In a marriage you agree to love no matter how horrible the partner and his or her life turns out to be, and the feeling of love can appear inside you as a fleeting sensation, of something that might have a resemblance to a 90s hollywood movie, or a 50s or Shakespeare play. I think so.

True love isn't the idea that there is 1 person out there who is predetermined to be the 1 best person for you -_- True love is a set of feelings and behaviors, and you can certainly have it for more than one person. "You are my 1 true love" really means "you are the only person I wish to have this true love for" I don't like the direction this debate is going at all lol

According to whom is that the definition of true love? Seems pretty subjective to me.
@jackmiddleton20807 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it is exactly subjective. It is just a matter of how many definitions for the word "true" and "love" there are. They really should have started the debate with definitions (maybe they did? IDK) otherwise it was a pretty big waste of time.

It’s the idealism through advertising that’s the issue of debate. If the commercialisation of “true love” is economically productive then it’s a great sales pitch, but only a sales pitch. Perfectionists, those with Aspergers or codependency from mental abuse, will focus on idealism and seek “true love”. Pre The Pill most would seek a life partner, friend, and companion. Post The Pill multiple partners became the norm. Perhaps true love was the casualty. Valentines Day, Wedding Day, and Anniversary Day, are opportunities to sell the dream and castigate societies failures as unfit for love. Maybe we need to return to a simpler world.

Great orators are not readers. They depend neither upon papers nor upon slides, but upon the audience. These speakers must also understand that language without pause and intonation is like a flower without fragrance. While speaking, the pulse of the audience should be felt. When this debater speaks, I feel a machine running, not information passing on.

Life is better lived focusing on the positive things. If there is any negative thoughts from the hearer, its only because they reside within oneself. You can change your world with your thoughts.

Great words, but, speak a fraction more slowly and pause!! If you are speaking quickly to pack more arguments in then take one of your points out.

i would debate this girl on this most important of subjects anytime. true love absolutely exists but cannot be measured in grams, ounces or even milligrams. something need not be expressable in a mathematical or logical sense in order to exist. she is trying to unlock a dormant and critical part of her mind but doesn’t know it yet

In a materialistic, and now experientalistic society, I think true love is less about a feeling and more about a shared compatibility, which, let’s face it, is more and more unlikely as we’ve gained a plethora of views and pastimes. To meet such an idealistic perfect match is highly improbable in a complex “developed” society. In past much older generations life was hard but simpler so such a match was easier to find, or people didn’t chase utopian illusions of love making them much more reasonable when choosing a wife or husband. Is love the love of avaricious intent rather than altruism? Ever seen a middle income couple selecting the engagement ring in a top end jewellers? It’s all about how others will perceive them. Is that what relationships have become? What a sad reflection on society.

I think women like that suffer from absolutes as well. In other words maybe they had sex at 14 and the relationship lasted 1 month so therefor they cannot be a princess and live a fairytale life anymore.
