@@Timo4eus when a bullet is stopped by the fibrous layer of a composite armour it means all its kinetic energy has been imparted to some other moving parts, so since the helmet itself or the stand didn't fly off I'd say no, it wouldn't have made such an impact to break your neck but I guess we'll never know until someone tests it on a human being.

@@francesco3772 I think there was a decent amount of temporary flex on the outer shell which absorbed a decent amount of energy. The flash, noise, and overall denting also absorbed a ton. Overall though there is a ton of damage to the wearer, I agree maybe not always fatal, but would deafen and concuss the shit out of you making you effectively combat ineffective for at least a short period, which is unlike the other non penetrating results we've seen.

Well it's still much cheaper here than HS steels (as we have LOTS of water and nuclear generated electricity and have lots of bauxites) and ofcource cheaper than strong titanium alloys. 1 KG of Al armor costs like $14 and more, high quality steel armor costs like $800-1500/kg (spb.tiu.ru/p358627272-list-bronevoj-st96.html) and titanium is ten times more (insanely) expensive.

Fascinating stuff with the Aramid layers, I used to work with kit returned from theatre that had been struck by various threats, and we regularly found that aramid helmets that took angled impacts would create channels, where the round could pierce the front of the helmet and get caught between layers, but not stop, following the curvature of the helmet until the exit (or sometimes just stop part way round) the back. It would look from the outside like a through and through, hole in the front, hole in the back, but no! Also, a note on deformation, it really doesn't take much movement distance to inflict serious cranial damage, rather like the helmet protection, it's about how fast and hard you're struck almost as much as how deep the deformation is. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the BABT from a slug to the helmet would still kill.

An individual M&M has a net weight of 0.9147 grams or 14.1159782 grains. A 147 grain 7.62 ammo defeats level 3 armor at 2,780 FPS. In order for an M&M to have the velocity to defeat level 3 armor it would need to be traveling 28,950.17 FPS or Mach 27.725. So I doubt the helmet would stop it
@dlistmemer591
@dlistmemer591 4 жыл бұрын
Add onto the heat generated by the friction of air, the M&M would roughly be 8550 degrees F by the time it reached the helmet. This molten stream of chocolate would act like copper in a shaped charge, instantly melting the materials and killing the wearer.

This is a great question, I know that aluminum alloy was used one of the Rys helmets. But I do not have any specifics. I'll try to dig into it.

i think i read somewhere that it uses the same aluminium alloy that some Russian AFVs use (the BMD series maybe?). i might just be bullshitting tho cos i cant find that source now

@@Oxide_does_his_best Be careful with this. Otherwise, another Russian will go to jail =) "Resident of Miass will go on trial for resale of military helmet and goggles. Alexander Petrov wanted to send a parcel to Japan, but did not know that he was committing a crime. As the senior assistant to the prosecutor of the city Daria Savelveva told the site "First Regional", the defendant wanted to send a parcel with a helmet to Japan by mail. “The specified person, not having permission to export military products on the territory of the Russian Federation, attempted to move across the customs border of the customs union within the EurAsEC by mail to an unidentified person living in Japan in the course of the investigation, an armored helmet and goggles. Based on the results of the investigation of the criminal case, it was sent to the Miass City Court to consider it on the merits". Experts emphasized that the shipment of such goods is prohibited by an international convention. It is controlled by both the domestic laws of the country and international ones. Note that a South Ural resident can receive up to 7 years in prison for his offense."

@@xxresgr12xx the ABT-102 (used on BMD-2) is comparable to 7039 alloy, which in the west is used...for "aerospace armor" :D The alloy ABT-102 (and 101) was invented by Nii Stali, so prob a good guess they grabbed what they had literal piles of in stock for making BMDs and went on to press helmets out of it.

its crazy to see the helmets take these beatings. Granted these ranges are so much closer then possible. Makes me wonder what my helmet would actually hold up against when i was in Afghan.

Super cool that you tested that shotgun slug, it is a overly stated thing based on the comments section. But I also wish more games like Tarkov or Arma replicated the helmets performances IRL.
