4:18 The difference in velocities from the muzzle vs handful of meters/yards is insignificant and within variance between rounds. I'd say that the way helmets are suspended allows them to absorb/bounce bullets more effectively. It's the like hitting a fruit with a baseball bat off the ground vs against the ground. When the helmet was on the ground all of the bullet's energy is used to penetrate since the helmet can't move.

@@vantave9946 Yes. Modern helmets are not firmly strapped on to your head and are instead suspended over and around it with a webbing system. When hit, it lets the helmet's materials deform without cracking your skull (like seen on many videos), but also allows for some movement that can also absorb/redirect energy from actual penetration. In addition, the suspended nature of the helmets give some good bump protection (and ventilation).

3/4 of combat casualties are sustained by frag and shrapnel so it is the most important part of a helmet but your argument is still valid as, the higher rating it is, the more shrapnel it can stop, stopping bullets is just a good plus.
@LocalDeepstateAgent3 жыл бұрын
Funny enough, most shrapnel have the penetration potential of a 45.ACP or even 7.62 soft point. The only difference is the shape but its save to say that with most helmets do far tested here a flat surface area on these helmets would have provided fair penetration potential for any kind of fragments.
