After just under a year of raising a yellow lab puppy for the Guide Dog Foundation, it was time to give him back for the next level of training to be a service dog.
It was hard to see him go, particularly for Alex who had spent the most time raising Oxie.
A year went by and the TL family got frequent updates on Oxie's great progress in the program as the foundation's trainers prepared him for life as a service dog. We talked about Oxie all the time, and certainly missed him.
And then we got a call.
Although Oxie was doing great in the program, he had an allergy that disqualified him from being a guide dog. Being the raising family, we had first dibs on adopting Oxie as our pet. The decision was a no-brainer.
We decided to surprise Alex with Oxie's return.
Thinking that he was letting Jack's dog Hank out of his crate, Alex was greeted by Oxie, to be united with him once again after a year...
...and this time for good.
