OXSPRING: Barnsley Parish #14 of 17

If you walk around in the foothills of the Pennines for long enough you'll come across a place eventually that looks a little like this. In fact, you'll com across a lot of places that look like this. You see, this whole area practically looks and feels the same once you've been everywhere, and that's not because it's boring. Oh no. In fact quite the opposite.
You see, all these Barnsley parishes are quite spectacular when then sun comes out. You're in the hills, which naturally look good when you're on top of them. The valleys below and the rolling countryside is quite a nice thing to have around you. That's why every time I come out to this part of South Yorkshire I make sure I get a good shot or two of the scenery.
So what can I tell you about this slice of scenery? Well, it's located in the valley of the River Don, sandwiched between the A629 Penistone bypass and a local road off it that leads into Penistone. With only 500 houses, this is pushing it to call itself a Penistone suburb, even though it's kind of connected to the town at it's Western edge.
Here you'll find a lovely village green, a garden dedicated to a local man, a church that believe it or not is not even 70 years old yet, and of course, the Trans-Pennine Trail...where would this channel be without that? All of this is set in that wonderful countryside and I don't think there's any question this village is one of the nicer ones we've been to!

That stream isn't the River Don fella. The River Don is the big river another 10 meters downstream 🤣

Yeah I know, i kind of meant that in comparison to other places where I've seen the Don on the channel, it may as well be. It's so shallow and not very wide here
