THURGOLAND: Barnsley Parish #13 of 17

On the home stretch with Barnsley now and this one is perhaps the most interesting one yet. One of the borough's largest in terms of area, but not population, this one is bursting with things to see and do! Granted, some of it is just stuff we've seen before in other places, but there are some unique bits here too that you just don't find anywhere else.
The Trans-Pennine Trail is now becoming an old friend of the channel. Along it's route there are many features that stand out but how about an old railway tunnel with a unique reverb that rebounds off the 4,000 foot of wall, lasting for an amazing 20 seconds? I don't think there's going to be many other things along the route like that.
There's a viaduct too on the same old stretch of railway line. There's an abundance of walks throughout the parish that you can have a go at, some easy, some a little more challenging. There's yet another sighting of the River Don, this time running alongside an extremely tight narrow road which has a watermill along it!
The views around are quite something too if you're into that kind of thing. The folk around here are lucky to call this their home in my opinion. Stretching for such a distance in all directions, the foothills of the Pennines offer this beauty to anyone that wants to stop a while and take in it's splendour.
There's three villages here, one with a history of coal mining, and one with a history of wire mills to go with the main village, the one that gives us the name here - THURGOLAND.

Last time i went through those tunnels the ballast was still down.... that feels so long ago right now....

I live in the houses just behind the abandoned house I believe it used to be a farmers house i may be wrong about that but developers cant touch the property as it houses bats 🦇 had a few surveyors come at night and count the bats over the past few years
