Yes sir, above 15k we usually pass the O2 bottle around and above 17.5k everyone wore masks. Additional notes: I jumped both static line and HALO/HAHO in the 1970s-1980s, equipment has changed. It is so noisy (especially with ramp down) that hand signals are only viable means of comms. Jumping from ramp is much easier than side door due to wind blast.

The HAAMS jumps at the end were the only true HALO/HAHO jumps, the tell is that in the other jumps the load master or crew chies are not also wearing masks making those high altitude, but of the type to require O2 masks
@JonathonCrane-s7eАй бұрын
even if the loadies are wearing their masks does not guaranty that they are above 13K. If I remember right, aircrew were required to put on masks at 10K, and would usually try to bamboozle the jm into only going to 10K so they wouldn't have to mask up.

When you jump SIM ox, kit or High Altitude? You use Hitefinders (height finders). I didn't see a PIN show and check during the back end drills!

@JonathonCrane-s7eАй бұрын
@@hubriswonk the jumpers don't breath off their bottles the whole flight, O2 is supplied from the aircraft or consoles brought on board for the majority of the flight. Jumpers disconnect from these O2 sources when they get ready to jump.

@@JonathonCrane-s7e I thought they were using O2 system for high altitude jumps.
@JonathonCrane-s7eАй бұрын
@@hubriswonk practicing with the equipment and reinforcing procedures is what training is all about. I did dozens of masks jumps and only four or so actually required O2. There are additional steps for rigging and inspecting the O2 equipment that require practice. Prebreathing off of a console (larger, shared O2 tanks) requires the support guys (Phys techs and riggers) to practice their craft as well.
