The source of the food poisoning is the Mushbars. When they are freshly made, even with sterile dirt and water, some food poisoning is produced in the bars. Maybe store the mush bars in a separate ration box because the food poisoning contaminated other food in the box too.

Since you have pips and trees, you can turn wood in to cool oxygen through ethanol. I forget the exact method, but the whole set-up, IIRC, generates cool oxygen and some power, with a pip/tree farm, and pips can be made into food.
@nolan43394 жыл бұрын
I know of two ways for ethanol cooling. One is to create a hot room with an aquatuner (best gold or steel as the hotter the better) and feed throttled (10% packets to keep from breaking pipes) of ethanol through this room to cool it. This ethanol should then immediately be burned in a petroleum generator, thus deleting this heat. An oddity of this is that some gaseous ethanol escapes when it is burned making some mess but this method can be useful if you're having a hard time getting plastic and steam turbines. The second way is supposedly possible because gaseous ethanol has less thermal capacity than liquid. So an aquatuner that is sitting in ethanol can use it's cooling to condense ethanol gas easier than it turns it back into gas, thus gaining some cooling. This way is fairly inefficient however as much of the aquatuner's cooling is eaten up to keep itself cool, but it supposedly can be done with an aluminum aquatuner. There are other "full systems" as well that utilize the waste polluted water and make oxygen/hydrogen etc, but it's pretty had to get to those in early game.

If a dupe has prioritized "Digging" over "Tidy", then they will handle priority 1 digs before they do a priority 9 "Tidy". Cranking things up to 9 is not as important as making sure your dupes either haven't specialized, or make sure that you have someone who can get around to "tidy" jobs.
@ObiWanCannabi4 жыл бұрын

You should set up a pump and gas filter in your fern room to pull out oxygen and kick back in co2 so you can maximize the oxygen production. Obviously this is going to up your power needs. If you don't have a lot of coal like i did on verdana you will need to start tree production for wood burners and keep working on trees + pips because later you can make ethanol and use a petro generator.

I'm really not sure insulating the base with insulated tiles is the best choice. There will still be some heat on the base, and it's not easy to build. I recommand to make some waterlocks and void around the base biome (even air is way better). With this, cycle 19 i easily isolated the first biome with air, while having the time to set up an oxyfern farm, some food, basic rooms, regrouped my water. I had no tiles above 29 °C I'm not experienced at all with lategame but in my experience, this method is way better.

i never quite understood why people build UP in this game? down and horizontal would be my first priority due to CO2 falling vs Oxygen rising. your oxygen is rising so high its hard to get it in the main part of your base. instead your oxygen is floating away, you did use the upper reaches of your base for farming but at the same time that could have been done lower down had you built that way. another thing i have noticed is that you keep making tunnels too large initially. 2 high is plenty when attempting to go somewhere fast, then make it 3 tall later when you round out aestetics. for example heading to the sand.

I'm not entirely sure, but i'm speculating that digging out around the base would slow heat transfer, compared to having solids connecting, even if the insulated tiles aren't placed. I know it helps for the aluminum, it heats up quite fast.
@nathanc41834 жыл бұрын
An "advanced" build is a vacuum insulated wall (wall->empty->wall) which is a perfect insulator, but solid tiles are better since all gasses transfer heat faster than natural tiles (and hold less).
@bazerger62584 жыл бұрын
The thermal conductivity for gases is lower than solids though, and it's evident from how you can drop a small pool of liquid at the foot of machinery and it'll transfer heat out of it many times faster than the gases in the area.
@bazerger62584 жыл бұрын
Did a sandbox test, aluminum ore heats up significantly faster than if you dig out and leave any kind of gas there, while for igneus rock, if it's light amounts of oxygen or carbon Dioxide, it seems to slow it a bit, but may not give enough reduction to matter, compared to the risk of spreading the heat along the air channels. I think generally, removing aluminum tiles connecting to the warmer parts is good, otherwise they'll heat up along the aluminum vein and spread the heat deeper much faster.

You're only out of mealwood seeds because your pips are planting them. If you stop making mush bars your dupes will have the time they need to build the farm and plant the seeds. The most painful part about watching this. Is you talked about oxygen 30 times before getting an electrolyzer researched. Then you talked about it 15 before building one. Then you had it built. Looked at it 3 times and said I need to hook that up to the water while focusing on ferns. That electrolyzer was INSTANT oxygen and equivalent to many many ferns. I enjoyed watching this but it was very painful watching you acknowledge the O2 problem and doing everything but your best solution. And you were aware of the solution. I mean if you went back and rewatched your vids you'll see what I'm talking about. Also I have a tendency for sure to take on dupes too fast. And thats definitely what ya did. Made food and O2 very stressful for a minute I would avoid cooking the meal lice because it takes a bit of water I believe and is super in efficient with how much time it takes to cook it in the nutrient masher. I mean it all panned out though. But a huge chunk of time could been saved by not doing the ferns if you had that up earlier. This prob sounds negative and I dont really mean it like that. I enjoyed watching these.

I see a lot of people telling you to go to the petroleum generator with ethanol ... but in my humble opinion I think you should invest more in hydrogen energy, hydrogen is the best energy source in the game taking into account that it is clean and water is practically infinite, you will always find steam vents geyser of polluted water, salty water etc, and during the process you still get oxygen as a by-product, it is much easier to create a setup with electrolysis than to sink in carbon dioxide, ethanol and petroleum. Someone will say that it generates a lot of heat or that your water is limited at first, but it is not, each 1kg of water you produce 888g of oxygen (almost 9 dups) it will not work all the time and the water consumption to generate oxygen will bring you several benefits, the specific heat of the gas released would take at least 60 cycles to cause damage to your dups, more than enough time to get organized. If you have any doubts about how to do it currently, I am completing all the steam conquests in a series made in live I have already managed to complete carnivore and locavore in oasis in the worst possible difficulty.
@UniqueBreakfastTaco4 жыл бұрын
The downside is you only get 112g/s of hydrogen per kilo of water, enough to run one generator full time, with a lil bit leftover (12g/s). The ethanol loop is difficult to make power positive iirc, due to running 4 distillers per petrol generator. Getting to mid game where all this tech is available is half the battle here
