I really hate the sound of sighing … my aunt and dad do it excessively and it’s like a part of their personality now … I feel grumpy and stressed instantly by just hearing those sounds , and it’s because I’m empathetic and really care about how those people feel , so their distressful sighs really affects me

I heard a Harvard professor on the Andrew huberman podcast saying that one every 5 minutes is normal and if you go long duration without, then the lungs gets some kind of damage

It sounds like yo have dysfunctional breathing @solowrld_ If you are interested in learning functional breathing exercises to address it, our free breathing app would be a great place to start. However, if you are scared and perhaps prone to anxiety or panic disorder, start slow with breathe light exercises and stay away from breath hold exercises, especially at the beginning as your fear could cause an anxiety attack. 📱 Android Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxygen.advantage 📱 Apple store: apps.apple.com/ie/app/oxygen-advantage/id1589260950 Hope it helps.

I'm not sure what to believe here. Andrew Huberman has popularized 'the physiological sigh', which (he claims) is the most effective way to reduce anxiety BECAUSE it rapidly discharges CO2. I've found it effective myself. But then its being said here that frequent sighing increases anxiety because it results in massive drops in CO2. This seems contradictory

I'm not an expert, but I don't see this as contradictory. I interpret that Patrick is saying that if you notice you are involuntarily sighing frequently, then it's a biometric indicator (so monitoring rather than controlling your stress level). Whereas Huberman says that when you wish to calm yourself, then to deliberately double-breathe in followed by a long slow sigh (proactively accessing the phenomenon of variation in chest cavity pressure which calms the autonomic nervous system). This is similar to the mechanisms by which box breathing works or some yogic breath.

I so badly need these videos right now I’ve started a job in a extremely high stress office environment I already had chest pain in the past two previous years from what I believe to be my breathing patterns. Feeling very highly reactive all week to all stresses. I need to take back the reigns of my health. This week I had 2 very dizzy spells. I searched this up because I have been sighing much more and I watched a video on the vagus nerve. I breathe in a very strange way now I breath very slow and shallow I don’t know what’s happening to my body’s breathing pattern but it’s not what it used to be I plan to go for a walk today to try and help reset it. I have also lost the majority of my sense of smell I wonder is it all related.

Isn’t signing 12 times an hour normal I’ve read?
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Indeed @Anthony72341 Most of use experience an average of around 12 involuntary sighs (a.k.a. ‘spontaneous sighs’) per hour. But when it's more frequent, it can also be a warning sign, especially when a person has anxiety or panic disorder. It's normal for us to sigh, it is the frequency of the sighing that has to be monitored. Excessive sighing is often a sign of dysfunctional breathing.

Then there is a good chance you have dysfunctional breathing @madhusmitarath741. How do you sleep during the night? Do you wake with a dry mouth in the morning? Is your nose often blocked? These are all signs of dysfunctional breathing. About 50% of the population have dysfunctional breathing and it's growing. Learning to breathe light is a great first step to addressing this. There are lots of exercises available in the free Oxygen Advantage app that can help such as the nose unblocking and various breathe light exercises. @OxygenAdvantage Жыл бұрын
Hi @@madhusmitarath741, Unfortunately we can't make that kind of assumption as we can't give out medical advice, but if you think that is a possibility, you should check with your medical professional for possible pulminary issues. In our experience, constant sighing, is a signal that your breathing is dysfunctional. Which itself is an indicator that you need to reduce your sensitivity to carbon dioxide. This usually means that a person is regularly mouth breathing throughout the day. Training daily nose breathing exercises is what we recommend to reduce your sensitivity to carbon dioxide. Try our free breathing app with lots of exercises to help build up your tolerance to CO2. 📱 Android Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxygen.advantage 📱 Apple store: apps.apple.com/ie/app/oxygen-advantage/id1589260950
