He made zero attempt to stand up to schillinger or move cell, even going so far as to dress up and tell him that he "loved." Him. When Vern got bored of abusing him he sent him away now at great risk from all non nazi prisoners AND the Aryan brotherhood. So Beecher snapped and completely transformed as a person
