I recently purchased the Ozark Trail 10x12 North Fork Wall Tent from Walmart for $399. This is my first time setting it up. I also purchased a wood stove to go in it off Amazon for $150.
I really like the quality and size for the price.

Nice tent for the price. I've lived many many many months in wall tents worldwide and in the US and here's my advice. If you are running a stove you must have a Carbon monoxide alarm and 2 fire extinguishers(1 inside and 1 outside of tent) you must secure the pipe jack flap or wind will blow it up against the pipe and burn it, you must have a spark arrestor, and if possible stack brick or rock on/around stove for thermal mass so you can let it go out while sleeping yet still radiate heat. Put a bigass cheap cookie pan under the stove to catch embers and ash. Tuck the sod strip under the tent or place some rocks on it for foul weather. Heat rises so close up that roof jack hole and the side vents yet always have a low fresh air inlet while burning a stove. I use those cheep foam mats that have jigsaw piece edges from harbor freight to line my floor for insulation and to protect the floor. Just my 2 cents. Great video BTW and happy camping!!

As a mineral exploration geologist working on 3 continents, I've spend months at a time living in wall tents. I've used them at -30C banked with snow. They are absolutely the best tent you can own...depending on quality. One can easily spend $400 on a crap nylon tent. 10x12 is a minimum for one working person, 2 cozy people or a young family of 4. That frame is definitely not commercial grade but good enough in wind protected areas. And a little wood stove like that makes camping damned civilised. I'm used to heavy canvas commercial grade tents. But I'm buying for myself without a mining company paying the bill. I'm not sure this one would make me happy. But I'll think about it.

Your right about that stove pipe. You would most likely get ash burns on your roof that way. To get maximum draft a chimney should be 2 ft above a roof peak and a spark arrestor is a good idea. I'm not sure of your planned operating temps but that stove not only will probably not put out enough BTU's but will have to be constantly fed. Pay the bigger stove price, or freeze like ice.

You should get more stove pipe so that you can have the end of the stove pipe about 4 or 5 feet above the top of the tent. Hot embers from the fire can damage the roof of your tent. Even with a screen protector over the end of the stove pipe, I would still have the pipe 4 or 5 feet above the tent roof. Good video by the way.

Don’t know if someone said this but I found from experience that if your tent is modular and the stove jack can be moved to back, you probably should. Day 1 and 5 mph wind led to a stove sized hole in the mesh door.

Awesome video I appreciate it one thing your wood stove is way under size if you camp during the fall and winter you will freeze and that small wood stove I have the same wall tent if you're not sure what size stove measure the opening in the stove Jack then purchase a wood stove that will fit that hole with the pipe that will put in the ballpark if you bought a small stove with a small pipe and it doesn't fit the diameter of the hole for the stove Jack it is definitely not the right size stove wood stove for your wall tent basically what I'm trying to say the wood stove opening that's coming out of the top of the wood stove should match the same size hole that's in your stove Jack in the roof of the wall tent it is a awesome wall tent I own one and I am thinking about buying another 1 awesome wall tent. o ps that wood stove that you have you can use by getting a adapter for the stove Jack imagine 32° out with that small stove you won't even warm up the tent and you will have to be feeding that's part in that wood stove about every hour and a half two hours you will be up all night feeding that wood stove to try to keep yourself warm

I've seen reviews that Ozark tents have terrible materials. Reviews say they're only good for one-day home scenarios and not good for long outdoor campground stays. What's your view on this? However, this tent is quite different. The materials is very different. Of all the Ozark videos this one I feel is quite durable and very water-proof.

Great video ...but take it from an old wall tent user ...the stove pipe jack must fit the stove pipe somewhat snugly (don't worry they are made of hi temperature silicone) otherwise all that beautiful heat your stove is creating will vent right out the oversize hole ...not being a true canvas tent you'll want to keep as much of that heat inside as possible....IMHO ...the sod cloth(that's the strip of material all around the bottom of the walls) is tucked to the inside of the tent , and the tent floor overlaps it creating a nicer seal around the bottom of the tent. Once again I enjoyed your video

Is the floor built in or separate piece If separate does it Velcro or zip in ?
@FundsInTheSun
@FundsInTheSun 2 жыл бұрын
The floor is a separate piece and it velcros to the tent walls. The floor is a much heavier material than the tent itself. The tent is not canvas, but a heavy material. I actually like this over the heavy canvas because it's much lighter and there's not as much of a concern when having to dry it out before packing it away when done.

Fine design, and well built. However, my only issue with this rig may perhaps be the fabric itself. Rayons and nylons are fine, but noisy, thin, and lacking insulation. Three guys in a modern synthetic tent of any design will freeze far before three guys in a canvas teepee. My concern is heat retention. I love the tent, and the size and overall design, but I wonder just how well it will perform in cold weather against even its most archaic and distant realatives.... A buddy and I woke up one morning to four inches of fresh snow in a canvas teepee and we were none the wiser.

Us two idiots on the other hand, had ridden motorcycles deep into the goat-trails of the Rockies, each with our own pack, found a good spot, and parked it. Dug a small pit next to the center pole, and filled it with red hot feldspar lumps from our cooking fire. Best tent heater I've ever known, they were still warm six hours later. Although, I'll never do that again, feldspar releases radon gas when hot. Probably took a few years off our lives with that one.
