Thanks for being honest about what you do/don't need to overland. Too many folks focus on the gear and miss out on the adventure.

Thanks for pointing out that so much can be done with so little. These days it's easy to get carried away trying to keep up with the next guy. People need to get outside and see all they can without worrying about having thousands in unnecessary gear.

Satellite communicators. Yep. Buy one. Now. I bought a Zoleo before my last solo trip in late-August. I was going into the National Radio Quiet Zone in West VA, where there is no cell service for about 75 miles east-to-west, and about 200 miles north-to-south. Found an epic campsite on the water, across a deep stream crossing. Not a soul for at least 10 miles. Woke up to a beautiful day with the promise of overland adventures ahead...and the Jeep's battery was flatter than the pancakes I'd just made for breakfast. I had the Zoleo in hand and was about to press the SOS button, but tried one last troubleshooting trick (bypassed the aux start/stop battery) and had enough juice in the man battery to start it up. If I hadn't had the Zoleo with me I would have panicked, 100%. It paid for itself right there, even though I never needed it.

The video is great, Matt! I had to look up Baxterville... I am thinking that must be another name for South Fork, which is what I'm more familiar with! I was just down that way this weekend! I do agree with you - you don't need any of the fancy gadgetry to overland (or, just camping, as my family would call this). I enjoy seeing people with the gear though because, like everyone, if you are thinking about getting a piece of equipment, it's nice to see it in use. I was convinced to click "buy" on my Klymit camping pillow because of a video you did a few years ago (I agree, it is the best pillow) but I was already looking because I was tired of dragging my nice "bed" pillows out and my cheap "travel" pillow wasn't cutting it. At the same time, I already know that a rooftop tent is not something that would work for me - but I enjoy seeing the videos you do on them. I'm using my 15 year old Coleman tent and my heavy and huge Cabela's sleeping bag and I can get out and do what I want. Upgrade equipment as you run into opportunities and on your own priority level, is what I think. Safe travels and looking forward to the next video!

I'm watching this on my television now and I'm totally in agreement with you about southern Colorado and exploring new trails. Having been to Silverton 4 times and learning the trails I'm all about new trails. We've chatted on Facebook about y'all's channel, trail recon, lifestyle overland, revere overland and the story until now. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the trails and finding new places, after Kevin and Sarah went to Dead Horse, I'm really interested in Alaska, and y'all's trip to the Owyhees has me wanting to see Oregon. Interesting comments and perspective. You say you don't know any "overlanders" that don't say you need any of that stuff but that's most likely because they already have it. Why don't a bunch of you guys get together (with the females in your lives too!) and take away all of that "stuff" and try it for a week. Then report back and see how that went and see if any of you would still wanna do it that way. 😁

Hey Matt just watched your latest video. I'm the guy that gave you unnecessary crap about your review on the set power. I think the bad taste was still in my mouth from dealing with their customer service and trying to get a replacement, again I apologize. What I really love about your videos is your honesty and how you make people feel comfortable no matter what their situation is if they want to go overlanding Great job! May I suggest that you asked your viewers when you're reviewing something and have potential problems to leave comments if they've already own these pieces of equipment and if they've had problems what their experience was with customer service. Like in the last comments a commenter named Dan said he had three iceco units failed him and customer service was slow in helping them out. That might help your viewers in their decisions about the equipment that you're reviewing, just a suggestion. Now I'm going to change the subject, as a retired adventure show producer for ESPN and outdoor life network how hard it is to produce these shows. If they think the field work is tough that is nothing compared to the editing process. It's a difficult job and you've been producing some quality content that speaks to a lot of people who are both in and thinking about getting into overlanding thanks again for a great video Matt. We're traveling full time in a built out Ford F-150 with a four-wheel camper. I can't tell you how much we have enjoyed it. And thanks for giving us heads up about Fuchs reservoir. We find a lot of the places because of people like you informing us. Thanks again.

Great video! 💯 not a feline track. Either a dog, large male coyote or a wolf. Most likely someone’s pet. It’s too square. The retractable claws always get people but look for the general squareness of the track. Canine tracks are mostly square and feline tracks are offset, which this track is not. The most telltale sign is the main pad. Two lobes: canine. Three lobes: feline, but it’s hard to tell from that track

I’m with you, most overlander influencers do NOT say that anything IS required, but you can’t deny that the digital ecosystem and content around this topic is about building up rigs. Folks on KZbin may not say anything is “needed” but they’re influencing nonetheless by doing and showing with cool and expensive rigs. I mean, it’s classic marketing. Just own it, dude. You’re sponsored, you have an expensive rig, and you influence based on that regardless what you say to try to mitigate it. Am I wrong to say that? I’m not trying to be a troll, just honest.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures Жыл бұрын
I 100% own it which is why I’m deliberate at saying things like I do in this video. I see way to many people say they are waiting till they get their rig built or waiting till they get XYZ gear to go out. My point is just go and experience life. You need the built rig and fancy gear to do it.
