Thanks John for retesting this broadhead. I have all six I bought about 2 years ago and just touched them up to shaving sharp. I have one that I use for practice. They are ridiculously accurate and as you stated a nightmare to remove from my Sevr target. When I do shoot these for practice, I shoot into the more worn area and still have to push them through as they are really hard backing out due to the amount of rotation. Really looking forward to using these this year!
@LuskArcheryAdventures5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I cut my target in half now. So when a single bevel head goes through it, I only have to pull it out of the back half. Or sometimes it just sticks out of the first half. It’s made it a lot easier.

@PersonalBestOutdoors5 ай бұрын
2:06 John, thank you. I appreciate you phrasing the penetration qualities about this head that way. "Aid in penetration in SOME mediums" Perfect. I know you choose the materials to represent and simulate the properties of each head so there are constants to compare each head against the performance of all the others. I know the reason you choose to do these videos. To help bowhunters when making a selection for their quivers, based on the type of game they desire to hunt. Shooting animals would be preferred, as that's the broadhead's intended purpose, and what it was designed to do. I understand why this is not an option. Even shooting an animal that you have access to as a test medium like feral hogs still leaves room for one head to have invalid results due to type of hit, anatomy encountered, size of animal etc. Even using steaks as a test medium would leave a ton of opportunity for one head to unfairly be represented, as not all steaks are created equal. This is why The Natal Study is so great. Decades of testing. 631 total animals killed, thousands of shots recorded. All shots taken within 30 minutes of the animal expiring before Rigor mortis sets in and skews the data. Large animals tested on because you can't actually quantify how well one head and arrow type performed if they all pass through. You have to stop the arrow to measure how well it did against the others etc. Times and regulations have changed since then. What you are offering the bowhunting community a great service through these tests, and for that, I thank you. You have a large platform and community on KZbin. I think many people misunderstand the true value of this testing. There is nothing in an animal that acts like ballistic gel, cardboard, MDF, steel, or concrete. Just because a head does well on those mediums, does not mean it's going to do well on an animal IN ALL SITUATIONS. What it does mean, is if a head does better in those mediums THAN OTHER HEADS in those same mediums, that head specifically does better than the rest IN THOSE MEDIUMS. If one head outperforms all others in your videos, it means that it CAN have a better chance than the other heads tested in an actual hunting scenario. So I appreciate that you said that specifically. I know that you are a man of God and legitimately want to help this community. I know that you do not intend for anyone to misinterpret the info that you share. I think that marketing these days is kind of crazy and 90% of it is snake oil. I appreciate the effort you put into these videos, and the intention behind them. I thank you for your transparency, John. God bless you, and happy hunting!!!

Thanks for sharing a thoughtful response. I’ve begun to give bonuses for longer, narrower heads that do not perform as well in friction based mediums, to somewhat level the playing field.

Ive come to really put an importance on the size of hole and the wound channel a broadhead makes. I dislike the drama that a faint blood trail causes and i just feel like blowing a rotational hole through a deer will cause more blood loss than a slit. What has been your experience?

They now are using a much better steel, after the company was re purchased.
@CEMuhlbeier5 ай бұрын
The new construction is much better. 420ss CNC machined and hardened to 48 rockwell. One thing I noticed with this new design is that the bevel angle is much steeper/less sharp. The thing is they nearly made it flat when looking down the front of the broadhead. Meaning the flat part of the bevel hits sort of flat to the animal. Not the edge. If that makes sense. That's why it kind of hits like a slug now. It's going to mess some stuff up but the rotation is what is making it cut. I played around with the new design for a little bit but after some ******* push testing it's just not for me. And I'm all about causing mass carnage. The normal Elite 3b is still one of the best flying, silent solid heads though. Not sure how much I trust OzCut as a company though. Some sort of a corporation and made overseas. They don't even know anything about their product if you ask.

Why do you think there is such a difference in penetration between gel and cardboard for this head?
@LuskArcheryAdventures5 ай бұрын
I think the rotation really tore up the cardboard, but also hindered the penetration.
@deftink02365 ай бұрын
Pretty much what he said. The rotation causes extra drag in cardboard, especially with 3 blades. The tanto tip doesn't help either for that specific medium. Long & sleek will always pierce better in cardboard than short & squat, lol.

I was surprised as a single bevel how dull it is. That dullness and steep angle of blades showed up when shooting into the cardboard
@LuskArcheryAdventures5 ай бұрын
Well, I don't think that's what caused the penetration issue in the cardboard. The sharpness was average for one piece, 3 blade heads. But the rotation, even in the cardboard (which is very rare) hindered the penetration.
