My hubby was on ozempic about 3 months. His A1C dropped a LOT, he stopped craving food and lost about 15 pounds. But he got so depressed and had thoughts of suicide, he said his brain felt like it was in such a fog, I got so scared, I made him stop it, and tell his doctor about it. His doctor said he seeing this more and more in patients. That it affects the feel-good hormones in general. It took about 3 weeks, but his mental health is back to normal. It's definitely the drug. So, it's definitely something so consider.

Funny because GLP ones for me lowered my blood sugar to 92. My A1C went from 7.6 to 5.4 and my diabetes is now in full remission. I lost 35 lb in 22 weeks and my blood pressure went from 170/100 to 128 over 69. The appetite suppression has enabled me to eat normal sized meals and the weight loss continues. Much lower risk of cardiac events and a whole host of other benefits which are far superior to what I would be at risk for for being morbidly obese and overweight. Not sure why this guy's videos are always negative. I think I need to tell the algorithm that I don't care to see any more of this guy's videos they keep showing up in my feed and they're rather depressing.

Hi Dr. Dan, I have been using Ozempic since May of 2022. I have lost 70lbs. I have changed from a size 20 to a size 14. So fun!!! I got up to 2 mg dose and started "to lose my will to live." I looked "lost will to live" on youtube and listeded to a sad girl. The next youtube video that popped up was you or someone like you. The doctor said if you lost your will to live "YOU ARE NOT EATING ENOUGH!" He explained that we should eat our weight x 10 to maintain and exercise to lose. Or eat our goal weight x 10. He was right, I was not eating much and shuffling around. I started eating more and felt so much better and enjoy life again and reduced Ozempic from 2 to 1.25. Anybody starving is going to feel bad even if they do not feel hungry. I have suffered with depression all my life and take medication. Would like your comments.

I have a question, is there anything wrong with being given Ozympic, but only giving yourself half of what the doctor recommends? Instead of starting off at .25 can you start off at .12 or a certain amount of clicks? And then move up to .25 on the second month and so on. I have found in my whole life that I only needed half of what any doctor recommended for me on any drug except for antibiotics.

The fact that no one publicized the depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation proves to me that it was "not just in my head" because I was actually looking for symptoms like nausea and vomiting (which never happened at! all!). Therefore I was alarmed!!! when by week #2 on semaglutide the ideations became unbearable and I drove myself to E.R. I was discharged because of no alcohol or drugs in my system and told to follow up with a psychiatrist (for whom they gave me a referral). He tried to prescribe antidepressants (which I stopped taking years ago). I declined to going back on antidepressants and have found some "moderate relief" in walking for an hour a day. Suicidal ideation is HORRIBLE and my heart breaks for people who can't find relief, but for most of us? Changes in lifestyle can make us feel better.❤

I’m not suicidal but I’m crying a lot and the anxiety is really bad like call off from work bad. The migraines are bad too, I lost 20 pounds and I’d like to continue but I don’t want to risk my mental health. I think I’m going to stop

I’m on week 2 & my 2nd shot I WILL NOT BE TAKING THIS DRUG ANYMORE! I do struggle with anxiety but it’s been under control. Wegovy has increased my anxiety and depression. The headaches are debilitating it’s like my skulls going to burst! I’m exhausted & my mood is terrible! I take my shots on Monday towards Friday I’m back to feeling like myself again. Then the horrible cycle repeats with the next shot! NOT WORTH IT! Diet & exercises the best you can & control your own brain 🧠 don’t allow Wegovy to do it for you! Much love ❤️ to everyone trying this & good luck! (Everyone is different)

I think this makes sense. Maybe some Wegovy-women are depressed because they no longer want to go shopping and that was an important part of their lives. I wonder if a shopping addiction is related to food addiction. Obviously supermarket shopping is about getting food. But even in some other types of stores, there's usually a restaurant nearby, or shoppers can smell the aroma of cooked food somewhere. Good discussion.

My take on these depression on GLP1s is that patients has emotional ties or relationship with food that makes them happy, calm or they use food as a crutch when they are sad. So when they are in these medications and they end up having an aversion to food or no appetite they will all be depressed bec they can’t eat their feelings.

This only applies to a certain subset of users though. Many of us didn't comfort or binge eat before we started on it. I really need it for my diabetes, and the decrease in thirst, heat intolerance, and chronic stomach pain has been amazing. However, I am so fatigued and don't enjoy things the way I used to. What I do see is that those of us who didn't have any addictions or bad relationships with food, alcohol, or compulsive shopping beforehand seem to be the ones who experience these side effects. Maybe our brains are not wired for much reward in the first place, and the GLP-1 receptor agonist turns the little reward we have way way down.

depression, obesity/weight gain often go together so it's alot to consider. besides not seeing results quickly enough, maybe expecting our bodies to look a certain way at a goal weight might not be met due to loose skin. some might expect other areas of their life to improve and be better after weight loss which doesn't always happen.

It affects dopamine! Ive been on it for 2 months and I have lost all interest in life and I want to sleep all the time. This is NOT a result of my relationship to food or how much Im eating. I have been on many different diet plans over the years and I have never felt this dull and tired from any diet. The exhaustion and lack of interest in life is a result of the effect ozempic has on dopamine. I'm going off of it. Not worth it. Tired of drug manufacturers blaming the patient's own relationship to food rather than admitting their drug messes with dopamine and can cause chemical depression!

I honestly would be surprised if this was just a problem of expectations, also because ozempic does indeed work marvels for weight loss. More incline to think that The GLP1 biochemical pathway crosses somehow the pleasure/dopamine pathways in a still unexplained way, in some people.

Why are you always so negative about GLP-1 meds? Gastro paralysis and now depression? Also your audio on this video is horrible. You really should try to do some positive videos on the benefits of these medications since for many people taking them they are life-changing.

@@theofficialdrdan you were coming up in my feed often. After like the 3rd or 4th negative video I told my KZbin setting to not show me anymore of your videos. I lost 35 pounds in 22 weeks. My A1C went from 7.6 to 5.4. My diabetes is now in remission. My blood sugar dropped to 91 and my blood pressure went from 170/100 to 128/70. Being morbidly obese increases the likelihood of cardiac events and a whole host of other things which are not good for you. These medications change all of those things for the better so hearing someone drown on about the dangers is very disappointing. Anyone educated would do a cost benefit analysis and if you do want you will objectively learn quickly that the benefits of these medications far outweigh the negatives which is why so many people take them. Be well but you really should try to educate your audience and post some positive videos about GLP-1 medications.

@@Jbandes I am disappointed by your replay James. Again if you watched my other videos you would know I review the positives. However, how is someone to make a risk benefit analysis without hearing the good and the bad? This is the foundation of evidence based medicine - clinicians like myself must provide both sides of the coin to be as objective and unbiased as possible. Only with all the information can someone make a truly informed decision about what is best for them and their health. Seeking only the positive takes away the objectivity of the evidence and only gives us what we want to hear. I am glad you are having so much so success. Keep up the great work. All the best my friend!
