@@t.k.3895that's true of some but I went to the doctor because I couldn't lose. I dropped my calories to 800 per day and exercised. I lost 5 lbs and no more. She tested me and I was type 2. She told me that makes weight loss near impossible bc your metabolism is broken. It took 6 mo for me to get Ozempic bc of the craze. I was so sick for 4 mo but now I feel better all around and I dropped 45 lbs. For me, it changed my taste buds. Anything processed tastes like cleaning products. I eat more calories a day now but all good ones. I don't think you should take it if you don't have diabetes. My doctor said that it's dangerous for non-diabetics to take it.

4:29 - Saxenda (liraglutide) is also a GLP-1 agonist - it is absolutely no wonder that she had such tragic consequences by Ozempic (semaglutide) being co-prescribed. This is infuriating to me as a pharmacist. I wonder if she got the prescriptions from different doctors. A doctor writing both to a patient is an absolute malpractice. But I lean more toward her getting each prescription from different providers and filling them as different pharmacies, one with insurance and one at cash price.

@millennialfalcon8958
@millennialfalcon8958 Жыл бұрын
@@moniqueengleman873 I'm unsure of the guidelines in Australia (I'm American), but Wegovy is approved for weight loss and is also semaglutide, but the pens deliver very slightly different dosing. Saxenda (liraglutide) is also approved for weight loss and is sold under a different trade name (Victoza) for use for those with Type 2 Diabetes. Both Saxenda and Victoza are injected daily however. However, a diagnosis of obesity and treatment failures with other drugs is a caveat to insurance paying for either Saxenda or Wegovy. But, a patient can pay full price or a slightly discounted price for any medication that is prescribed to them and I have dispensed Ozempic to people who were willing to pay $500 for a single 3 mL pen. If she met the clinical criteria to be diagnosed as obese and her physician prescribed her Saxenda in good faith, I see no fault. If she went to another physician and asked for Ozempic and that physician had no idea she was already taking Saxenda. I would see no fault. Either she was led to believe or assumed that taking both would expedite the weight loss process and did not mention the duplicate therapy to either doctor, or a single doctor prescribed both. She would have also had to fill them at different pharmacies because all modern software used in a retail pharmacy has hard stops to alert the pharmacist of potential severe drug adverse events - most requiring the pharmacist to use their biometrics to acknowledge the risk. I tend to believe the former rather than the latter, and believe that drugs of interest like GLP-1 agonists should be tracked on the same database as controlled substances and pseudoephedrine to prevent fatal accidents like this from occuring.

I’m a ER RN and a type 2 diabetic and was prescribed Ozempic specifically for blood sugar control. My final dosage is 1mg weekly which is half of the max dose of 2mg. My HgBA1c normalized. As a side note over a year with portion control and carbohydrate reduction I lost 52 lbs and gained a new lease on life. Was there occasional nausea? Yes but never debilitating. Was there bouts of diarrhea when overeating or eating fatty foods? Absolutely . Semiglutides are not a magic weight loss shot. It does decrease your appetite and my comment since being on it is that there seemed to be more willpower in that little shot than I ever had. I’m still taking it weekly with no plan to increase my dosage- I do not believe the medication should be prescribed for strictly weight loss purposes unless the patient is morbidly obese.

I'm a physician, one who prescribes this medication, as well as other similar meds. My wife and I tried it, and were sick from the very beginning. Reflux and burping began immediately. It only got worse from there. I felt anxiety, depression (never felt either before), severe fatigue, nausea, constipation, and finally, stomach paralysis (ileus). I brought up food from 5 days before, completely undigested. That is when we both stopped it. I was lucky, but I am very up front about it's side effects to my patients.

@@villanelle8888 Because the life expectancy of someone with untreated diabetes (50% mortality) is something like 1 year and someone took a risk and changed that to 17 post diagnosis in 1921 but we don't have a cure for it yet and for the record Type I is hereditary while Type II can be hereditary and/or lifestyle. I think you are over reacting and thinking emotionally and not rationally. It's a drug. It's not for everyone as results and side effects vary, just like any other drug. It has to be out there for a bit before we have long-term studies but it has cleared FDA issues so far. Finally, patients need to be honest with doctors and pharmacists, both of whom need to stick to the oaths they swore and communicate with their patient. Do all that and then, absent emotion, folk can judge it on it's ethicallity and efficacy both relentlessly and continuously, just like every other medication should be handled. edit: I want a cure for this. How it effects my mind, yes mind, and body is evil. It didn't work for @joeydryer1260 or his wife, yet he still prescribes - perhaps with a stronger warning now. If that's not good enough for you, look at the list of side-effects for anti-depressants. They all, or most all, share 1 specific side-effect. You gotta do the looking because it is so horrific that I doubt KZbin would allow me to post it. Yeah, it's that bad.

I am currently on Ozempic, though my situation is kinda different, I'm already a diabetic and at my heaviest i was over 230kg. I was 165kg when i started Ozempic 5 weeks ago. So far i have not noticed any of the nausea side effects however prior to taking the medication i often experienced nausea especially after eating a meal. My GP who prescribed it mentioned all the side effects that could occur and told me if anything felt off i should immediately stop taking it. My pharmacist also mentioned the exact same things as my GP. I personally feel the drug should be used by people who are like me, diabetic and morbidly obese, unfortunately we have people like the "entrepreneur" in this clip prescribing it to people who not only dont need it but are using it as a cosmetic/quick fix alternative for their beauty treatments.

The thing that surprises me is why doctors do not educate their patients about the various side effects. I am a Type 1 diabetic so I have to take insulin. I am overweight so the doctor thought I should try Ozempic as he said it may help lose some weight. Usually, it is for Tyoe 2 diabetics but doctors often prescribe it for weight loss. Prior to taking the drug I consulted my Retinal eye specialist as the information sheet in the Ozempic box mentioned the possibility of eye damage. He said he has noticed a number of his patients eye problems have worsened since taking Ozempic. He said the majority already had diabetic eye damage but when taking Ozempic their condition worsened. He said he would be wary about taking the drug as currently my eye condition is manageable but if I started the drug it could worsen. I am shocked my endocrinologist (and other doctors) have never mentioned this problem. Once I received my prescription I read the information leaflet and that is where I found the information regarding vision problems. Prior to encouraging their patients take Ozempic doctors need to discuss the dangers involved in taking this drug.

Now a few missed hours of sleep isn't going to harm anyone. But multiple months of 4-5 hours of sleep will make you crazy. The medicine does what it's supposed to; it slows down your digestive system. Your stomach empties slowly. I just assumed after I stopped taking the drug my GI tract would return to normal. Well, it didn't and I'm still dealing with this nighttime nausea 18 months later. Buyer beware.

They are basically the same class of drug. 60 minutes just glossed over the use of both meds at the same time which would be, and was catastrophic. The poor woman overdosed herself. Did she go two two different doctors and not tell them what she was taking? Did she get one med online. Don’t make Ozempic a bad med. Every medication has side effects. Taken as prescribed and monitored by a physician, it has transformed people’s lives. People have to take accountability for their actions and choices re telemedicine. If the patient is not truthful with the teledoctor or they use more than one doctor for the same reason, then the consequences are on them.

I heard those who stop taking Ozempic end up gaining back their weight (often times MORE), mostly because Ozempic completely screws up the NATURAL hormones telling your body/brain it's full. Your body adapts and learns only to take its cues/signals from the Ozempic drug. As a result, when you get off Ozempic and eat, you no longer have the NATURAL hormones to tell your brain you're full. So you get the false impression that it's okay to go on eating. It's horrible how drug companies see this as a way of retaining customers.

That was precisely my issue with using such drugs as a "quick fix",( at least that is what I have been told) for weight loss. My issue is that the medication was originally for diabetics. We need the stuff side effects and all. It seems such a good solution, I understand that. However, when it comes down to diabetics not being able to get life-saving medication due to its popularity for weight loss I get concerned. Don't get me wrong, I see the connection between diabetes, health, and weight. I just feel it has gone a bit too far when those who originally needed it cannot get it. I believe diabetics have different series of issues going on inside their bodies. That could maybe be why some diabetics can tolerate the medication. (Again, just guessing). I was tempted to switch to Ozempic but my current medication is working and I don't want to tempt fate. I do wonder what happens when people stop taking the med. I'm not really debating here. I'm just thinking about the whole topic.

It controls my A1C well without losing more weight. With any drugs, people should use it for its intended use and discuss any side-effects with their doc. Thanks for sharing your experience. What I don't understand is, when people have side effects like that, why can't they just drop way back on the dosage, and ramp up very slowly? I've been in charge of my own dosage since I started at the beginning of February. It was only a month ago that I reached 2.4 mg per week. I am not taking the brand name, but rather getting it from a med spa. That is the only access that I have to it. I gained 40 lb over the last 3 and 1/2 years, not counting this year, and this year I dropped 30 lb so far, starting in February. Actually, I started my dose so low and ramped up so slowly, that I didn't start to drop until about June. I also didn't have any nasty side effects. The most noticeable side effects that I have are feeling faint if I try to get up off the floor, and feeling sleepier than normal. I also have acid reflux which I treat with a zantac pill every few days.

I'm a dietitian at a medical weight loss center and its been within the past few years we've seen patients come in and request medications by name, regardless if they met minimum health requirements for begining the drugs. It has not been like this in the 6-7 years the program been running. I feel that many of my patients just trudge through our appointments just to check the boxes so that the doc will prescribe the drugs. I do see great the things these medications can do for people who put the effort into changing all aspects of their life like their diet, lifestyle, mental health, social well being, etc., but I wish more patients understand that the drugs are not miracles.

May your soul be at peace, Trish. She seemed like such a happy lady. Although an unrelated product, this reminds me of Philips Medical taking 11 years to recall certain CPAP/BiPAP machines, despite numerous customer reports of black particulate matter in the hoses and masks of their devices. It turns out the polyester-based polyurethane foam used to reduce noise in the device was breaking down. As a result, people were breathing in the gas from the foam and the tiny particles were going into their lungs. The recall is in its second year and still going. The lawsuits have started, too, thankfully. There have been customer cases of lung disease, cancer, and even deaths. It seems that pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers only have to show that a product isn't (currently known to be) unsafe, rather than proving that it is safe. Profits over people, as usual. There have been positive advances in the healthcare sector, too, of course. I've learned that I don't want to be an early adopter, though. Things are only safe until they're not. The list of withdrawn drugs is pretty eye-opening.

So she did it to wear a wedding dress. And was taking two different weight-loss drugs. It's not the meds; it was her insistence on taking it no matter the side effects. A side effect to *any drug*, even aspirin, can be death if you just play around and take too much. She was still that obsessed despite the black box warnings. She shouldn't have been prescribed the meds without extensive counseling. And the risks are right on the package insert. It's super sad that people get pulled into this "miracle drug" BS. If you take it but don't change anything, you will be sick. A LOT. Poor lady. Also, fun fact: It's now being offered to people who have morbid obesity, legally. If you want to lose 20 pounds, that's not much, and I imagine (not sure) that working out more or doing non severe calorie restrictions will do it. THESE are the people creating the shortage, not the obese. If there even is a shortage. They may just want to bump up the price; or insurance companies may be holding out trying to get Novo Nordisk to lower the price. Either way, people with T2d or morbid obesity and PCOS-induced Insulin resistance are good potential candidates. Hopefully we'll see more availability and understanding of who it can help in the near future. Sort of like we did when we noticed that a heart medicine also caused boners. And Viagra was born! In future, I hope we can better inform doctors what it's NOT good for - losing a little weight, not for health reasons, but for vanity. This lady *might* have been a good candidate, but wasn't educated on the good and the bad, as I was. It's not magic; it's not candy. It's a commitment and a helpful push in the right direction for people who have tried every diet and can't lose weight over the course of decades. I take it for T2d, but how did I get that and metabolic syndrome? By eating poorly, and too much, and having injuries that prevented me from exercising, thus becoming obese. So I'm taking it now, and also seeing an eating disorder counselor. Because I've realized that I "eat my feelings' and I've always been a sugar fiend. This whole-person approach I'm using now has been the most successful for me in terms of healthy eating habits. I'm losing an average of 1.5 pounds a week, not 30 like some say they have. I suppose it depends on what weight you started at and if you drink enough water. I can't judge others' experiences. I can only speak for myself and say that it has improved my health and risk of all the things diabetes and obesity often bring. Thank you for attending my TEDx talk.

Most of the time now I feel comfortable with eating a balanced diet, I don’t usually get hungry and when I do eat, when Ive had enough I just stop because I don’t need to eat anymore. I really thought I would have gained more muscle, but it's been only 1 lb. So I think the doctors should advise their patients what to do to avoid muscle loss as much as possible when on Ozempic.

As a prescriber myself, I have to say doctors are not allowed to prescribe whatever they want as that man says in this video. You need to follow clinical guidelines, make sure it's clinically appropriate and in the best interest of your patient. And unfortunately the public cannot solely rely on the judgement of a clinician as this video demonstrates.

Sorry for the loss of this precious wife and mom. May the Lord comfort and bless this family . Pray for people to be made more aware of the risks of taking these medications and that we educate ourselves on these drugs and scenarios of the danger as this family experienced. Even though we may be desperate to lose weight , may we throw caution and take precautions and make wise health choices…ultimately the choice is our own and we are accountable on how we take care of this one precious body we have. I pray each one will be in good health. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🌈💜🌸

I don't think the small amount of weight such as 20 pounds in 4 months is worth the side effects and associated risks. 20 pounds in 4 months is less than a pound a week. 1 person in the comments said they'd been on it for 3 months and lost only 1 pound. That can be done without drugs.

I’m a T2 diabetic who has been on GLP1R agonists (byetta, trulicity, Ozempic) since 2017. I experienced depression and anxiety after a work incident in 2018, thought it was stress from work at the time. As years went on this progressed to having suicidal ideations, years of therapy to work out what was going on. Stopped Ozempic in October last year, ~ 5 weeks after stopping my suicidal ideations also stopped. If I didn’t have the strength of mind to seek help this class off drugs may have killed me.

IF NOT, things like this happen. Quit begging your doctors to give you a pill to fix every damn thing wrong in your life. Put in some hard work and TRY to make changes for yourself first.

@@misskay6831 You obviously did not get my point at all ..I am not only talking about "the negative comments", I am talking about the overall judgement regarding women, fat, slim, old, young and on it goes..Also, I am by no means advocating to eat the Ozempic if not being diabetic, I think it's madness, but my point is, women are under much more superficial pressure than men, and that is why so many of them come to above commenter's office. It's 2023 and women still are treated as in the 50's (by society)in some ways. I see women commenting on other women's accounts, for example, that "they look good for their age" or such..How sad is that. A man would never get such a comment, he would only get "looking good", no matter what age or with some extra kilos on his body. That is what I wanted to say with my comment.

As a type 1 diabetic, I used Ozempic for a year. I lost about 10 pounds. It was ok but after a few months I stopped losing weight and still had to deal with the gastrointestinal side effects. It could be an option but I’d suggest fasting is probably better and costs nothing. After I went off Ozempic I did gain that 10 pounds back, at least until I fasted it off. For the money and side effects it’s not really worth it for most folks, although I’m sure some could benefit too.
