Schoo had flow and a pocket like nothing else (search up "The Throbbe" from the Ozrics live at the Pongmeister's Ball from 2002 for some jaw dropping drumming) but Balazs is an absolute master of technical playing, odd meter polyrhythms and strange time signatures which makes him perfect for the Ozrics' more experimental stuff.

@@felixjones9198 You're doing him no justice by saying he had flow and a pocket like nothing else. I've seen hundreds of times live at the Pongmeister's Ball. I've seen Schoo live with Ozric. The guy is incredible in my opinion always

We drove 3 hours in the pouring rain to see the Ozric's. We just made it in time for the second act and we got to meet and talk with Brandi for a few minutes. What an awesome person and an awesome musician. The show was out of this world and was worth another 3 hour drive home in the silly rain. Yes I would do it again.

Michael Maloy I know, isn't she such a sweetheart? I love the way she talks to the audience during performances, and the taped interviews with her and Ed are so funny. I enjoy the way they interact with one another: they are truly made for each other. The Ozric Tentacles are fabulous, and it doesn't seem to make much difference which artists are joining the act.

gtheskater I hope they're planning on coming to North Carolina soon. I would love to see them live (as in, in person, not recorded).

Certainly the best attempt to emulate the drum machine known as the Conrad Prince.

The eye contact between bassist and drummer is phenomenal!
@Bloodroot785 жыл бұрын
On a track this challenging technically, I would have to imagine the eye contact is mandatory, and I say this as a bass player. The bass is great on this track, but drum wise, outside of Tool's signature changes, this is about the craziest track I've ever encountered from a drummer's perspective. There might be 20 drummers on the planet that could make it through this track end to end alive that wouldn't need a long break afterwards. It's an endurance challenge that I'm not even sure Danny Carey could make it through.

@@Bloodroot78 You're obviously not that familiar with many drummers. While this is not an easy song to play, there's definitely way more than 20 drummers in the world that could play this easily. There's some real fucking beast drummers out there man. Danny carey is not the be all and end all. Check out a guy called Marco Minneman, Vinny Colaiuta. Also, look up a death metal drummer called John Longstreth, he's a total beast.

The snare sounds like a tin of paint falling down a flight of wooden stairs, but the playing is tight as fuck. Especially when you consider how difficult it is to keep it together when the time signature seems to swing from 7/8 to 13/81 via others that haven't been invented yet. To make that look easy takes four brains.

I haven't laughed so much in ages, what a classic comment and totally true, unbelievable, I stopped trying to 'drum along' after he hit the first cymbal 😟

It’s great and very complex and all that. I’m not saying I could play this on the drums but … These overly complex time signatures seem a bit too much and I question that it’s just for the sake of being ‘musos’ Listen to it carefully. The only time it really gets you nodding your head in a proper groove is when it goes back to basic 4/4 That’s the reason we dance to mainly 4/4 in clubs etc Nice stuff But I preferred Ozrics earlier styles of simple grooves and not floaty avant-garde odd time signature stuff. Presume they are just challenging themselves as musicians. It doesn’t get my head nodding listening to these odd time signatures though. Just my opinion. I’m still going to see the electric set in Newcastle on Thursday this week though …!
