Heads Up! I mention in the video that the Oztent Awning Connector is compatible with the RX tents. This is an error as the zippers actually run in opposite directions. This means that you cannot connect two Oztent RX tents together, nor can you connect an RX tent to an RV tent. Sorry about any confusion we may have caused here. ~ Ben

Hi there, Thank you for the helpful tutorial on setting up and packing away the Oztent RX-5. Additionally, I'm wondering if there's any difference between the RX-5 and RV-5 models in terms of material and heat resistance. Any insights on this comparison would be greatly appreciated! Best regards,
@SnowysOutdoors11 ай бұрын
I'm glad you found the video useful. Regarding fabric differences, the RV range utilise an 8Oz polycotton canvas, whereas the RX series are made with Oztent's 'Modcan' canvas which is actually 100% synthetic but feels similar and is just as durable. I wouldn't recommend making the type of fabric a deciding factor for you, the features and price tags are going to be more beneficial in terms of making the tent right for you. ~ Ben

Another awesome review. Can you please advise the dimensions and quality of fabric difference to the original rv5. I love our RV5 set up but this option with full front room looks like a good cause for upgrade but I want to ensure upside of quality, as for ten years I couldn’t be happier. And I still throw it up on the Ranger roof rack 👍
@SnowysOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The dimensions are exactly the same - essentially its the same tent, just made out of synthetic ripstop material that has been treated with fire retardants to meet safety standards in some countries. It has a skylight window, and a fully sealable annex room, which the RV doesn't have. The downside to this though is that the annex space is abit of an all or nothing situation. If you don't want to set up the full room, and maybe just want one awning wall as a wind break or for some privacy, it doesn't work aswell with the RX as the RV. Hope that helps. ~ Lauren

Hi! Is the bag waterproof? I mean, if I put this tent on the roofracks, should I cover it or the bag itself will keep it dry? thank you!
@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The material is waterproof, Nick, but water can get in through the seams and zipper. Any water that does get inside it will only be wetting the exterior of the tent anyway. I have transported my RV5 through some pretty heavy rains with minimal water ingress. As the bag becomes old it leaks more though. ~ Ben

Does the RX5 need a floor saver?
@SnowysOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Id doesn't necessarily need one, but if you are consistently using any tent on hard, rough ground, then a floor saver will prolong the life of the floor. If you do decide to use one you can use an RV5 mesh floor saver for the RX5 tent, or a generic tarp or two to laid underneath will also do the trick. ~ Ben

Is there a way of collecting rainwater off the roof? Channeling it somehow in to a container?
@SnowysOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Oztent do have an awning connector that has a gutter and down pipe, Presque, but this is for the RV tents, not the RX tents. There isn't anything readily available to collect rainwater from the RX tents, sorry. ~ Ben

Could I use the awning poles on my Colman Instant up 6 person tent, gold series to stabilise the side awning?
@SnowysOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by the side awning sorry, Loren. There's no reason why you couldn't use the awning poles from your Instant Up tents, but hey are a fixed length and not as strong as the Oztent poles which may cause some limitations. I hope this is useful. ~ Ben
@lorenniwa19846 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply Ben. My friend and I have the same tent....6 person instant tent.....and we were hoping to create a large seating area utilising both awnings and we liked the idea of the twist lock poles and spreader bars but we are also looking at a tarp covered area between our tents instead using twist lock poles
@SnowysOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Ah, I see what you mean, Loren - you want to use the Oztent twist lock poles on your Coleman Tent, my mind had your question the other way around. You can use any awning poles with any tents really, the eyelets are usually the same size. A twist lock pole gives you more versatility in height adjustment and a spreader bar adds stability. I don't believe there are velcro tabs on the Instant Up tents to go around the spreader pole so it may flap around a little in the centre but you will be able to tighten it up with the spreader. You can see our range of poles and parts on our website here - www.snowys.com.au/tent-accessories. ~ Ben

can you hook 2 rx5 tents together?
@SnowysOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I thought you could, but I questioned myself and made some inquiries before responding to you, James. When we shot the video we were under the impression that the Oztent Awning Connector was compatible, hence why we mention this in the video. We need to fix this up though as the zips actually run in different directions to the RV tents, meaning the awning connector is not compatible, and you cannot join two RX tents together. You can just set them up closely, but you'll always have a little gap between the awnings. ~ Ben

Rx series is great, but the awning room is so much work to do as in set up. Why dots they have 2 RX5s in the one bag and join them together or similar. They designed a fast an easy tent for set up, but made it hard with an extension. Ouch

Surely there is a way to make it smaller... You need the full length of a vehicle or a bus to log that thing around
@SnowysOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yeh, but in my opinion the packed length is the only down side, Rodrick. Other brands have tried to make the packed length smaller with different tents, but it usually involved more brackets which can be a point of failure, and the packed dimensions go from being long and skinny to short and fat. Ideally you need a roof rack to cart these around. ~ Ben
