We have had our RV3 for ten years. It’s had three of those years set up 6 months of the year continually in a semi permanent setup. Copped a lot of rain, wind, cold and hot (40 degrees Celsius plus) weather. Paid about $1,000 for it back then too and is without doubt the best bit of camping kit we have ever purchased. Sensational quality. The seams, the frame, the windows, poles, guy ropes…everything is just quality. You get what you pay for. Still going strong. We have the additional room and have used that a lot in the semi permanent setup, not so much when moving around. Only advice I’d suggest is get the fly. It zips on and we leave it on most of the time, except in the real heat. You can leave it on when you pack up the tent. We got that after its first trip where we had condensation. Never had it since. We absolutely love our Oz tent. You can buy a one size bigger bag too make putting it away super easy. We just chuck it on the roof racks and with two simple straps it never moves. We tend to peg shade cloth out the front so any water drips through but still can sit on it and take off muddy boots etc and nearly always set up the awning.

Had my RV4 for about 10years now. Love it. A friend has the RV3, so I brought an awning connector to link them. Makes a huge outfit and with the side panels on you get a big communal room between them. Another friend has an RV1. It looks tiny compared to the RV3/4 linkup. So we call it the dog kennel.

Great review - thank you! I have 2 x RV5's (one for my wife and I, and one for the kids). They are super tents! Expensive, yes, but you get what you pay for. I agree with everything you say regarding these tents. The only con for me is the length of the bags, but I have a Nissan Patrol with a roof rack, so that's where they go - problem solved! One huge plus compared to other tents is the fact that this is the only tent that I know of that can pack back into its original storage bag so easily! Most other tents are almost impossible to get back into their storage bags. This is important when trying to pack up camp before a pending rain storm! Thanks again for a great review, and warm greetings from South Africa! 👍😉

Great review. What we use to keep debris/dirt and damage away is shade cloth as a base. You can wipe your feet on it, water drops through it as too dirt, keeps the inside of the tent clean and its underneath too 👍

Thanks for the great review. We’re in the process of looking for a new tent, something bigger & quicker to open. How is the airflow? That’s something I have seen in other tents that even though they have plenty of windows, for some reason the mesh doesn’t allow air flow unless it’s REALLY windy.

I have an RV1 and an RV3, RV1 has been discontinued but I think its better for solo camping, RV1 has the biggest awning and when peaked you can stand upright under it, It measures only 1.5m long packed as apposed to 2m long same weight though due to the extra long awning, they are expensive even here in Australia where they come from (via China) but even the originals from 15 years ago still sell for over half original price so there is not such a loss if you do sell it on. Gets a bit addictive though as you tend to buy every OZtent accessory! side panels are great but I only ever use one side at a time as a windbreak.

It does well! The canvas doesn’t hold heat as well as a tent with an insulated fabric wall as you can imagine but it definitely stays “warmer” inside. There can be some condensation on the ceiling if you don’t have any windows open, just like any other tent. I have heard the optional extra roof fly can help with that issue. I don’t mind airing the tent out to dry when I get home though.

at 2:35, you say you chose the rv3 because it fits well in the corners with the frame, and fills out the tent, does the rv4 and rv5 not do this as well, or fit in the corners as well ? I'm just about to purchase one of these tents so I would be interested to know if there is any difference in the sizes.
@Adv4x4
@Adv4x4 2 жыл бұрын
On the rv4 and rv5 you have to stake out the rear of the tent to get its full shape. The frame doesn’t fill it out completely. So in theory you have to stake it down every time you use it. I hardly ever stake mine down. Only if it’s super windy. Maybe 10% of the time

2m when folded.... will still need a roof rack or trailer, defying the primary objective. Should we consider a dome tent, maybe? 60+, with some disability/reduced mobility. Where we need to go is beyond fifteen miles of deep sand. And the Geländewagen's design is compact. As we are older, reaching to a 1.9m roof won't be fun. Yet the sense of adventure is enticing. Maybe I can fit a roof box to put it in, as towing in deep sand can go south.

This is the first tent I’ve seen to rival (and even surpass in some ways) the Springbar design. Single person, thirty second setup and takedown, ample space and headroom, heavy duty and durable materials, extreme wind and water resistance, *and* the whole thing is freestanding? Take my money already. I just don’t understand why they’re not distributing in America. They would eat Coleman’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Probably the best on the market, I have zero doubt about longevity having seen the quality. I just did not get one, like an awning: basic set up time is quick, granted. Then in foul weather the game changes: stakes, guy ropes, poles, panels etc….. it takes for ever . I hardly ever camp 2 days in one place, personally, that would be lots of money for unused features and accessories

One problem though the price tag is a bit extreme for my taste, I've seen other canvas tent like Kodiak, White bird, just to name a few that are just as nice for way more cheaper than this one. And if at that price it's much larger as well. So I don't see the justice for their price tag, seems overpriced to me, plus there are other parts too and those are way overpriced as well, it just screams out to me "Greedy Crooks" due to their nasty price tag. I can see it being maybe $699.99 which would be a fair price but over $1,000.00 that's crazy!
@Adv4x4
@Adv4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Advantages over other canvas tents is the fast setup. They used to be around $700 when I bought mine. Maybe even a little cheaper. You can thank inflation for price hikes! Just like everything else in the world. Value of a dollar isn’t what it used to be.
