Sure, they have thousands of miles of coastline, but beyond that, there's hundreds of miles of ocean, then some islands full of mountains and jungle, then more ocean. How many roads do you have leading into New Mexico? You'd have to put checkpoints on all of those, and build massive walls connection those checkpoints, to get near as much isolation as Australia gets by closing their airports. That said, I'm from Central Europe, even reading about New Mexico makes it seem incomprehensibly vast and empty, I don't think there is any place within 1,000 miles where the nearest town or village is not easily within walking distance. Australia is pretty much beyond what I can imagine...

@Dave Johnson Now I won't argue about dumb people still doing dumb things. However I distinctly remember a couple of politicians from different places all around the world who when things were going down in China seemed to think that it would never spread to their part of the world and this is just the first example of a long list of mistakes I could bore you with all day. I also want to correct you while yes you are right those 3 things help in not getting taken for a ride by the virus but one more important aspect is your general health. So while you might not have any sort of disease that has weakened your body prior to Corona other people do and elderly people unfortunately appear to start with a disadvantage when meeting the virus. In these cases I don't think saying 'got nothing to worry about' fits the bill
