Randy Rhoads is the reason I started playing guitar back when I was a teen in the early 80s. Diary of a Madman is a masterpiece. R.I.P. Randy Rhoads...

I was kid that knew nothing about music when this came out, but hearing Randy in my headphones I instantly felt the power of music.

DOAM is a compositional masterpiece. The classical influence w/haunting melodies, eerie violin, and the crescendo/ outro harmonized chants/vocals are epic! 🦇🧛‍♂️🤘 RIP Randy Rhoads

If I'm not mistaken, Randy double and triple tracked his guitar parts to make them really stand out. How he could play these parts in triplicate as accurately as he did is nothing short of amazing. Remember, this was before Pro Tools and they were tracking to 2 inch tape.

If I'm not mistaken, most guitar players from that era were able to double track, but triple tracking was unheard of until Randy Rhoads came around.

Unless I'm also mistaken, in an interview with either Guitar Player, or Guitar for the Practicing Musician, the engineer was said to have stated that normally he could not allow for more than double because it just didn't sound nice enough. But he let Randy do it because he was not only good enough, but was often simply correct that it did sound better with the additions he suggested.

Another song to check out from this same album is Tonight, especially the exit solo, it's epic. You can feel the emotion Randy is putting into this solo. If your like many of his fans, the ending solo starts to fade, and as it fades you keep turning up the volume so you can hear every note before it cuts.

The story about this song is that Ozzy heard Randy practicing Leo Breuer's piece and Ozzy told him to use it in the song. Randy included it under the assumption that Ozzy's management would give Breuer writing credits...but Sharon refused to do so.

Well that’s not at all like Sharon is it! I’m stunned she wouldn’t give writing credit to the person actually responsible for the writing.

Randy wasn't a classical guitar player. But he did start getting into classical towards the end of his short life. He planned on attending UCLA to get a masters in classical.

Never heard anyone else notice the mic work on his recordings are the best ever. You can hear and see his fingers. This track is exhibit A especially on the acoustic. Whoever mic’ed him, absolutely revered and purposely desired to capture every tear inducing nuance of his gift. The sheer accuracy and touch of his approach to the instrument flowed naturally from the music flooding from within the man. The recorded works of Mr. Randy Rhoads are the most human sounding captures of all the great guitarists I’ve ever heard. I strongly recommend listening to the difference with the other Mount Rushmore guitarists’ records.

Always loved Ozzy's voice since I was a kid and that was a long long time ago .................I think 😁when Black Sabbath were just emerging from the smoke and smell of the Black country to let us hear this new heavy which was REAL FEKIN heavy. His voice has a very unique sound and expression.
