**** LINK TO THE PLANS **** kuffyswoodwork.com/product/ozzyocker-workbench/ A huge thank you to anyone that purchases a set of plans. Unlike in years gone past, I won't be releasing daily videos this year over my Christmas holiday period. Instead I will release 2 or 3 videos each week until this beast of a bench is complete.

You really cracked me up with how you started the video, perfectly illustrating the typically optimistic mind-set of a woodworker!

Haha 😄 Cutting the bench in half to make it fit was always an option 😉

You can see the excitement in the Kuffy. Been waiting to get up to this build! Great general tips on layout too.

It is true that I was looking forward to this build. I do enjoy woodworking much more when the joinery and components are much larger

that front vice looks as gorgeous as a bacon sandwich on a sunny Saturday morning in spring. Also - the plans look amazing - that animation at the beginning - so good chops there ozzy!
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
The animations, I'm loving those. That's from Fusion 360. A hell of a program to learn, but boy is it a powerful program! I think I will give up on SketchUp even though it is much faster for basic drawings.

Great advice thankyou. Making the frames a mirror image of each other is a handy little tip that I'll be appling to many other projects.

It's the only way to go. I've had a set of bedside sides glued up by apprentices in the same jig with both the left and right sides facing up in the jig. None of them were even close to sitting flat! We fixed it, but it was more work

I may never build this bench mate but I’m so looking forward to this build series. Is video two up yet? 🤣
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
I've been looking forward to it also. I'm so happy to be working on something that I can ding and dent during construction without it ruining the piece. Video two will probably go up on Christmas Day. I reckon if I upload a video on Sunday and Wednesday, that would be good for my schedule and what is left of my sanity.

Mate, I think I’m more excited about this workbench than you. I’m very close to building my own and wanted to see yours first before I started. Happy holidays and a safe new year champ.

Cool, I want to see what you eventually come up with.

I can assure you, it won’t be anywhere near as good as yours. But, I’m probably gonna steal a few ideas off you.

Timing is everything Kuffy, was about to commit to a 'Benchcrafted' split-top Roubo build using their hardware ... have purchased plenty of Hoop pine to do the build so will follow your build with great interest - A piece of good advice I got about timber - 'don't spend a whole lot on the first bench' - it may not be your last - never know what changes will come about :)
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
@Rob I designed my bench to take advantage of timbers you can readily pick up cheaply or free from demolished houses and building sites. My hardwoods were free. They were used as the support structure for a dust extractor tower which was dismantled 10 years ago. They have been sitting in the mud under the sunshine and rain since then. Although heavily weather damaged with plenty of face checking, they will machine up nicely and produce a quality bench.
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
@Oh Asis For sure. At work, we have chipboard flooring for the tops of our work benches. They are terrible! Luckily we only make roof trusses, so it doesn't really matter, and we replace the tops shortly after we have smashed a hole right through the top 😀
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
@Oh Asis We get supplied with Bunnings' Craftsman hammers. It's a tough gig to supply decent gear, because even the Craftsman crap gets stolen at work...
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
They have 20oz hammers too, but we have to whip the hammer right at the end of the swing to get a decent wallop going because the chipboard bench top just flexes under the load.

A good bench is the best thing you can own. I built mine 11 yrs ago and I would build it different today. It has a top of 3 sheets of MDF rock solid and dead flat until the first winter and it warped about .020 in 6 feet. I added a small bench 16" X 30" X 10" high with a Moxon vise across the end. The higher vise helps cutting joints by raising them up to my eyes and I don't have to bend over so much. You will understand has you get older too. Looking forward to seeing your build and the finish bench looks like it will be a good one. Thanks for the video Kuffy.
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
I do understand about raising the work piece up to your eyes so you don't have to stoop. I'm not old yet, but I am old enough that when I drop things at work, I wait until I have dropped 5 or 6 pieces then I can bend down just once to pick them all up again. Bending down is easy enough, it's the getting back up again which is getting much more difficult 😂

I have lots of new hi-vis tops. They all suck these days because they are 100% polyester. It's like wearing a plastic bag, and on a hot day it's like a plastic bag which doesn't breathe at all!

Am sure it will be a great build, Kuffy. AU$640 for the vise itself. Jeeeeeez . Happy Christmas. ... Pascal

Yeah, it took me a while before I was willing to pull the trigger and buy the hardware. I'm glad that I did though because quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. It's only been a couple of months since making the purchase and I could only remember that the vice was "somewhere around 600bux". I'm already forgetting 😂
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
@@ohasis8331 you can use cheaper vices, which brings the build cost way way down and it still function well. For 20 years my primary vice has been Irwin quickgrip clamps. I have chiselled myself many times because if them too 🤣🤕

I love the way you did that top rail connection to to the legs. Looking forward to this build, Kuffy! Happy Holidays to you and yours.
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
The top rail to leg connection is probably the most difficult part of the build and it was done entirely just for aesthetics. It does look much better this way though.

Hey Kuffy. It's that time of year again... It seems longer than last Christmas since we last saw you. Drullllll over the hardware. ( scuse me while I clean the screen). Wow that's a long bench, are you sure you have room for it? I made a traditional Roubo about five years ago at 1800 and its more than plenty. ( my choice as you point out a few times). I've had the frame for another Roubo bench sitting in my shed for nearly a year and will be trying to finish it this Christmas holiday to sell. Looking forward to the rest of the series over the next few weeks. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
If I had the room, I would make the bench 3.3 meters long. I had originally planned to build it 1800mm, but the timbers I have allowed the bench to be 2100mm. So I figured I'll just do it and make it work. I do have a few options as to the final location of the bench.
@glennpreston34185 жыл бұрын
A work bench I can access from all sides is my big 2020 project. My current one is in the corner of my shed so I really only use one side. I'm real keen to see how yours progresses and it'll be metric for a change 🇦🇺🇦🇺
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
Technically it is metric, but I have a terrible habit of measuring everything in metric and then speaking in inches. Having access to the bench all around will be a big bonus for me. No more shuffling boards around!

Thanks for the video. In the new year I hope to make something similar so I will follow your build with interest. One question. I didn't understand the point of the full size template. Can you clarify that for us?
@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
The template will make the build process much easier. It will become abundantly clear when I measure out the lower front and rear rail shoulders. It's a super critical measurement which is simply a length between two points. The template will help me find those two points.

@kuffyswoodwork5 жыл бұрын
Woops. I knew I forgot to add something to the description. The links for the HNT Gordon gear is there now. This isn't a sponsored build, everything has been paid for by myself but I don't mind supporting and helping others out especially if their gear is as good as HNT's.

The hardware is very flashy. I'm sure I will be very gentle with it for the first few weeks. That damn plumbers crack of mine made an appearance in the second video, probably won't be the last appearance!
