Kapton tape is used in surface mount technology manufacturing. It's used to tape off the gold "fingers" connections before the wave solder process. I know, I worked in SMT for 34 years.

Nice job thanks for sharing. I have a Mexican made P bass and another from Asia " P bass "Moon " It was new and paid $70 dlls , the magnets of the "moon bass " are stronger than the Mexican P bass and have more output , I wonder if I can damage my bass amp using those cheap pickups .
@whatsstefon3 ай бұрын
@@Fili2009able it won’t damage anything unless you crank the amp up and blow the speaker. The higher power output doesn’t necessarily mean better tone though. But that is always a matter of personal taste.

I agree with that. Sound better is very subjective. But I agree 100% about feeling confident with an instrument will absolutely benefit yourself as a player, your bandmates and the audience.

Hola quería preguntarte si se podía hacer un circuito con una solo potenciómetro de volumen osea sin poner el potenciómetro de tono
@whatsstefon3 ай бұрын
Of course it can.
@Fili2009able3 ай бұрын

Question: If I get my bass repaired at a music store will they have to break/remove my strings to get to the scratch plate and the wiring inside?
@whatsstefon5 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. However, that's something I usually ask my customers depending on the condition of the strings.
@Fili2009able3 ай бұрын
Nope just to loose the strings a little so its easy to move the scratch plate

Very good. The Burns pots or CTS. I'm doing this very same project. Are these 500k pots? What type of capacitor? What is the specs on these parts so I can order them? It's my 1st project.
@whatsstefon5 жыл бұрын
I used Burns 250K pots. Most Fender style setups (ie: P and J bass) will use 250K pots. I like the feel of the Burns pots, but I use CTS as well, just not in this video. I also use solid shaft with knobs with a grub screw because I really don't like the split shafts. They seem to break quite easily.

hey man, does the jazz bass knob also fit on a stratocaster?
@whatsstefon3 жыл бұрын
I would assume not unless the pots have been changed. Most strats have push on knobs because you’ll find a split shaft with knurling. Where as these pots on the jazz bass are solid shaft and the knobs have a grub screw to lock them on to the shaft. Easy fix is to replace the pots or buy suitable knobs for the pot shaft.

Just FYI...at least in the USA, the "L" in "solder" is silent. And, the thing you are working on is referred to as a "pick-guard", not a "scratch plate".

True. Here in Australia we call it Solder. And scratch plate. 😂

...did you used a linear pot for volume and a log pot for tone (as usual) or did you used another kind of combination?
@whatsstefon5 жыл бұрын
Indeed I did. Sometimes I'll change it up depending on what customer specifically wants. However, I also often stick to what is already in the instrument. Purely so the customer is use to that taper.
@bobzadokblokjr5 жыл бұрын
I’ve made a mistake though, because standard the log taper (A) is used for volume and the linear pot (B) for tone. I’ve heard that some people prefer log tapers for both pots. What exactly is the difference (advantage) than, do you know that?
@bobzadokblokjr5 жыл бұрын
PS ...and what kind of capacitor is normally used on a Fender Precision?
@whatsstefon5 жыл бұрын
@@bobzadokblokjr the difference is the way the resistance changes as you turn the pot. Half way on a lot might not necessarily be half the value of the pot.
@whatsstefon5 жыл бұрын
@@bobzadokblokjr capacitor wise, it's best to use a value you like. Generally a 0.047uF will be good with humbuckers. Their a darker pickup, so you want them to brighten up. Single coils cut through so you can to reduce the cap value to something like a 0.022. Of course you can use anything you like. A 0.01, 0.033 and so on. I might do a video on how they affect different pickups.
