I agree that election system needs a change but this idea of one election will not work in India, practically impossible. We are 1.4 billion people guys. There will be no transparency. Add to that, literary problem, it will be a chaos. Instead of that, we should explore other alternatives like holding simultaneous election region wise( North, south, east and west), expanding the ECI and strengthening them, etc

Spending money for election is not a waste. Can try to reduce the expenses. Do not gather the people for meetings and so on. Can opt for media campaign.

Everything is possible if viewed in positive perspective. After independent, general elections were conducted for Assemblies and Parliament together. Because of the games played by the Congress party on opposition party ruled states using Article 356, summarily dismissing the duly elected governments, frequent elections were conducted. The whole election process was dismantled according to the whims of Nehru family. Chidambaram is an expert in sugar coating of words and confusing the public. In the interview he doubted about the durability of the governments for 5 years. It is a proof for the misuse of Article 356 by the Congress party government.

If we simply impose PR to sync than it will be equivalent to ruling by any party who's in power in the Union Government. So it's not a logical solution. Because we all know President is only elected by those in power in Centre.

Simultaneous elections not new to India it had happened for quiet sometime after partition...there are pros and cons of simultaneous election...cons are few mainly limited with the small regional parties who would be at the backfront and they might say this form of election takes away the federal structure...while pros are plenty, the amount spend in election, all the govt services have to be overhauled and police service need to be diverted for conducting fair election, it also creates confusion for business expansion and FDIs...In my view simultaneous election is fair, every developed nation have gone for simultaneous election...for common man its a good step but for small political grps its a little bad news.

He is senile. He used to be very good and intelligent. Now he speaks only to negate ruling party. Instead he should see the idea on its own merit. He thinks elections can be done in a week on 3 week end days. In India, such a vast country!. Why he did not try this when he was in govt.
