I think I wore out 2 copies of this cassette in my car, an amazing album. I’ve never seen the videos and not sure I am any better off after seeing one, lol. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Dream within a Dream is my favourite, but at 7 mins may be a wee bit long for reaction.

This song is fire and was a banger in the clubs those days. It represents some of the crazyness, coolness and Zeitgeist of the 80s. The synths hit you out of the blue. What an amazing music arrangement. The video is pretty weird but it fits 😉

wow, Propaganda! 1985 classic of the industrial (German) music movement, signed by Trevor Horn (thank you for "The Art Of Noise") to be possibly the only album that i pursued on cassette & vinyl in 1994 by recommendation of a friend.. the entire album is brilliantly diverse! the CD's opening track "Dream Within A Dream" is an incredible song whose lyrics are the poem/story by Edgar Allan Poe! then the raw industrial exploration of sampling is evident in "Jewel ": beautifully raw cut lyrics vs screaming, then there's the song you review (in its numerous versions), the classic German-esque "Sorry For Laughing", & their infamous "Dr. Mabuse" (again, in all its various versions into darker, industrial explorations in subject matter).. this song is oddly my least favorite because of its almost cliche version trying to reach radio reception, but i highly recommend checking the original CD "A Secret Wish".. they revisited their music in many iterations: "Wishful Thinking" (whose opening instrumental opens the movie "Some Kind Of Wonderful"), "Outside World", & the reissued/remastered "A Secret Wish" double album.. sadly, they only made a sequel album "1234" without the main German vocalist Susanne Freytag resulting in a strange "attempt at pop-ish acceptance" of an album.. there's possibly 2 decent tracks on that album, one being "Ministry Of Fear" whose lyrics are a brilliant interrupted/cut up "argument" overlayed on a moving instrumental song of its own right, (in my opinion).. thank you for your reaction!

They had one album... it was fantastic. They were German, and produced by Trevor Horn of Frankie Goes to Hollywood fame. You should definitely check out their other big hit (in England and Europe) called Duel.

Trevor Horn was very involved in this. He's known for being a member of Buggles and Yes but even more for being the producer of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Pet Shop Boys, ABC, Seal and many more.

the music of that song is really like made in the future, it still sounds very distinct and on point right now, it survived the 80s , 90s and the more electronic adventures of the new milennium and still sounds good in 2024

Propaganda was one of my favorite synthpop bands from the 80s. They're not known in the mainstream world of music, but if you were in one of the very few cities that had a radio station dedicated to new wave, (KROQ in LA; 91X in San Diego; KCGL/KJQ in Salt Lake; there was one in Seattle and one in Boston (not sure the call letters) and that's all I know of), they were very well known. The album, A Secret Wish, has great music including this and their most well known song, Duel. Claudia Brücken, the lead singed went on to be in another band called Act. They have a great song called Absolutely Immune. (Propaganda and Act sound the same because of Brücken). Explore this band a bit and give Absolutely Immune a try.

Thanks for doing this one! If you want to see more Propaganda I would suggest checking out their debut single "Dr Mabuse". The song was produced by Trevor Horn who then went on to produce Frankie Goes To Hollywood, handing over the production of Propaganda's first album to Stephen Lipson (who did a brilliant job of it, I might add). The Nosferatu-themed video for "Dr Mabuse" was one of the first videos directed by Anton Corbijn, he's since done videos for Depeche Mode, U2, Nick Cave, Nirvana and many more. Questi continuano a ridere. Certo che i video degli anni 80 erano ridicoli. Lo sappiamo anche noi. Peccato che a noi adesso venga invece da piangere ad ascoltare la musica del terzo millennio. Che è decisamente peggio.
