This was a lovely trip down memory lane - I went on Aurora twice, first in 2004 as a teenager and again in 2012 in my twenties; I love the traditional British styled ships and although I am surprised they haven’t refreshed the main solid coloured carpets, I guess it just goes to show that Brintons high quality carpets (which, from memory, is I think, what they are) really do last decades! I think I might have to book our next holiday on an aurora cruise now!

You will ADORE the Aurora- especially if you're looking for tasteful and understated. She has a dedicated cinema and a lovely country house hotel feel bar called Anderson's- and the Crows Nest on deck 13 is wonderful. We felt the service on Aurora in Dec 19 gave Cunard a run for its money - so really can't give greater praise than that. Hope you gave a wonderful cruise 🚢

Thanks for this video of Aurora post refit. I booked for cruise R920 on 20th October of this year in December 2017. Since then there have been so many announcements regarding Aurora, P&O and my particular cruise. So much has been announced including Auroras refit, her becoming adult only, no compulsory tipping, drinks packages and my cruise being a 'Music Festival at Sea' that the price has sky rocketed (todays price for a solo traveller in the cheapest inside is £2798, I paid £1598!) I have been waiting in anticipation for a post refit video, and have to say that your video has been worth the wait. Thank you for a comprehensive tour - only 16 weeks to go, but the excitement mounts!

I really like her main staircase. It made me think of the Ile de France! Classic and understated. Wish Cunard ships main staircases looked more like that. The carpets around the atrium are great. The others aren't good for the most part. I can't put my finger on it but when you see a carpet that belongs on a ship, you just know it.

Carpets? We were happy with the older carpets when we were on board. They added colour and structure to the decor. The new neutral tone carpets you show look rather bland and seem similar to the pictures of the new P&O ship that’s on its way. Not exciting but ok I suppose. At least Aurora is a ship that looks and feels like a ship, not a block of flats.

Thank you, we are looking to book Arurora purely for the ports of call Oct 2022 for our golden wedding anniversary, video was so insightful as we have already cruised on Brittania 5 years ago. Although I knew this was smaller ship I hadn’t realised the difference. We loved the shows on Brittania but the restaurant/ entertainment club you mentioned won’t be missed as in my opinion it wasn’t worth the money we paid, food was poor, service was terrible when one side of room were being served mains and we hadn’t even got our starters by that point AND the Morcambe and wise Tribute act should have paid us to watch them !

Not keen on the modern patterned carpets in the corridors. Shame they didn't chose something more traditional in the same lighter colours which would not have clashed as much with the lobby carpets which hadn't been refreshed.

This is a very interesting view of a life style that I will never experience. I am more used to utilitarian flat bottom ferries crossing the North Sea from Gothenberg to Hull in January (even crew crawled everywhere to move about) to tiny 160' inter-island freighters in the Western Caroline Islands of Micronesia (sleeping quarters being a woven mat on a piece of plywood). I appreciate your informative videos because otherwise I would have no clue how the "other half" lives.

What was your lecture about? Aurora is showing it's age sadly, but it's not a bad boat. El Ferrol is a bit of a dump though! Nice sail in.
@koosriedijk38724 жыл бұрын
Showing it's age. You really don't know what you are talking about. Be glad there are a few "normal" ships around instead of the huge 6000 pax blockships of more recent years. Ships like Aurora were strongly built and can easily sail for 40 years (if necessary and people don't expect new ships(like new cars) every time ). So she is only halfway. It was sad to see her older sister Oriana leave the fleet, so let's hope Aurora will be a more or less classic choice for the future beside floating funparks, having nothing to do with a ship. If you like fun only, choose Carnival, Costa or alike, if you want a classic cruise in style: choose the Aurora. With more and more impersonal new tonnage, the Aurora will only get more followers in the near and far future. In size she is not the biggest (and who wants that? particularly regarding covid) but stylewise she is the P&O leading ship for many seamen , repeatpassengers , shipphotographers and shiplovers. Ships like Aurora ( and Oriana until her sale) appear to have a steady group of regulars. Lets call them the connoisseurs!

@simracer12563 жыл бұрын
@@koosriedijk3872 one other thing. Oriana was a tub. Awful ship. The electric cut out four times en route to Norway and the lock on my cabin jammed shut - imagine if there had been an emergency? The food was crap, the pool shut for three quarters of the cruise and I danced a jig of delight when p&o scrapped that diabolical bag of bolts.

This was a really well put together video, but as soon as you said you were guest lecturer, I though it was going to be difficult to be independent. This was confirmed as the whole presentation was in the style of an advertisement feature. Not to detract from the video production quality, but that was the substance of the content.

Thanks. That's why I disclose at the beginning why I was there, so everyone knows what they're getting. If you look at my videos they're not really designed to be critical or highlight specific negative experiences. They're more tours of the ship, and viewers get to come to their own conclusion. I was on the AURORA world cruise in the early 2000, started in Sydney Australia to Southampton UK via Northern Australia, the Orient, India and on through the Suez canal, southern Europe and finally Southampton. Had A lovely time, BUT a lot of English Passengers were very against passengers from other countries, these British passengers really believe, this a British ship for British passengers, specially on land tours, allocation of seats in the Medina restaurant, bus trips etc etc etc. Some of these passengers still believe in " RULE BRITANNIA, BRITTANIA RULE THE WAVE. The cruise itself was wonderful, the rest is history.

Hi Ronald, I did the complete opposite in 2017 and cruised on Sea Princess from Perth to Singapore. If they were going to change the carpets in one section of the ship, they should have changed it throughout the ship. The old carpet in the lift lobbies look outdated and ugly.
