While I was in Pittsburgh last weekend, SubaruWRXfan tweeted me and asked if I wanted to drive his Mustang. Then, he drove Sally. Here's the link: • Quick Drive: Regular C... I have never driven the four-banger turbo before and and this was my first experience. Also, my buddy Tim Strickler is in the back. Tim is 6-foot-3 and can't sit upright in the back of this Mustang.

i'm not knocking 4-cyl (i've got a GTI), but that heavy car is designed to hold a v8. i was looking at mustangs and camaros for a little bit and even the v6 felt sluggish in those tanks.

This is what I'm saying. All ford needs to do is shrink the car to shed some weight and pull the Stang badge off it. Trade that for a normal Ford one, and we've got a ripper of a car that plays with JDM sports cars and doesn't piss off Mustang enthusiasts.

Dude, the 1989-1995 Taurus SHO (3.0L Yamaha v6) outpulls the 198x-2004 Mustang GT. They are great to listen to, but not much else haha.
@Dolby109
@Dolby109 9 жыл бұрын
illitero Ehhhh...I knew a drag racer who daily'd a lightly modded 3.0 SHO and the best he could get out of it was a 14.9, and I'm pretty sure the 4.6's could do slightly better than that.
@illitero
@illitero 9 жыл бұрын
Adam S There are all kinds of variables with model year (weight), engine health, and driver. A mix of videos, enthusiast forum drag times, and personal experience has the SHO edging out Mustang GTs of the years above. Not a constant, no doubt, but after having snarfed a few GTs in a couple different SHOs I had, I'm certainly convinced haha. I can only assume that the difference between the GT's v8 and the SHO's v6 of nearly half the displacement is the efficiency in engineering and combustion, something that Ford didn't quite work out for their own engines until the early to mid 00's. Here's a video that isn't too much bullshit that kind of exemplifies the difference in the cars. Highway rolling launches aren't everything, but it's the kind of scenario I was meaning in my post above with how they pull away. watch?v=ZJN3-7K3U-A
@Dolby109
@Dolby109 9 жыл бұрын
illitero Well the difference is compression, breathability (from being DOHC) and then RPM from that breathability. Almost all V8's from the late 70's and 80's had low power and high torque because they were low compression and low cam profile to meet the new emissions standards. Many of them shifted at 4500rpm or below.
@illitero
@illitero 9 жыл бұрын
Adam S Cool, thanks for that. I'm a big stupid, so things like compression and the greater sciences of how some things work elude me. I only know how to work on them, haha.

People who may criticize this Mustang for having just 4 cylinders have to consider how it’s financially crippling to use a V8 car in this day and age. I’m 31 and actually considering buying one of these, with the auto, as my daily. See : for the same price as a BRZ, I would have 105 more hp, more room inside, better equipment and a somewhat reliable ride. This is how you have to look at this car : a pony car, not a muscle car. A cheap sports car that competes with the 370Z, the BRZ and such and has the same performance level as european sports coupes twice its price. That’s always been the basic idea behind pony/muscle cars, and that’s how Ford makes one in 2019.

Mr regular asked politely for help when his only car, a 10 year old toyota echo, was totaled in a snow bank. He asked for a modest amount, received more out of the public's generosity, and still only used the 5000 he initially asked for. he bought a leaking 100k mile honda fit and fixed the rest himself. it seems that suburuwrxfan had vague financial problems that allowed him to undergo the same thing to get 6500 dollars not to buy a car but to help pay for a brand new one. I don't see that as morally sound
@DrewLSsix
@DrewLSsix 8 жыл бұрын
Why? Did he lie? I see no moral problem whatsoever in asking for anything from anyone so long as they have the ability to decide for them selves. I'll open a fund me account, I want a Ferrari so donate something if you want! Why? Cuz' I want it, nothing else! If people are willing then that's their choice.

I don't think it's a question of morals at all. He asked for money. He didn't lie, he didn't deceive anyone, he didn't rip anyone off. Donating was purely the viewer's choice. Enough viewers donated that he got the car, but that was their own choice. You can debate all day about whether or not it was a dick move to ask for donations, but if people weren't willing to donate, they wouldn't have donated. There was nothing shady about it.

@Jo Nieder Depends on the city and weather. Pittsburgh would have terrible roads, as well as any city that experiences a lot of snow. This is because salt melts snow (and it's just straight up bad for asphalt), the water gets in the cracks of the roads and freezes and unfreezes and refreezes again, thus creating potholes. I live in Nebraska and half the state has some really nice roads, but they were repaved recently. My city is patchy, but again, the winters here destroy the roads. If I want really nice roads, I just drive about 2 hours south. Roads in Texas, Nevada, and California are also fantastic.

I kinda like the idea of a Mustang with a turbo 4-banger (as long as they keep a V8 as an option). But this particular one is more expensive than the base 6-banger, and performs about the same. I don't know the mpg for the 4, but it's rated at 30 for the 6, and I can't imagine the 4 is *that* much better. I guess it's marginally lighter, so may handle a bit better, but I don't see the point in getting this over the 6.

+RegularCars you're going to start seeing more and more of the hood as a matter of manufactures having to meet pedestrian impact safety regs. It gives more "crumble" time before hitting the engine underneath, and hopefully reducing injury. You'll notice this more on cars meant for world market, as EU has the strictest standards right now. This new Mustang won't just be sold in Europe, it will be the first time the Mustang has come RHD from the factory.

mortbif Displacement doesn't sell in Europe though. Here in Belgium it would be €7100 to get the previous V6 registered and €2000 each year for road tax (including the first year in top of the registration). The 5.0l V8 model is around €8000/€2400. The new 4 cylinder is a lot cheaper to put on the road, with 'only' €2060 registration and €495 anually... I think the 4 cylinder came to exist to sell the car in Europe as well...

Personally I am a fan of the dual/triple pod setups on the A-Pillar on the older Mustangs like Foxbodies or SN-95's I would never put one on my S550 though, the only thing I use is my Lund nGauge mounted in my vent to the left of my Perf Pack gauges and I love the way it looks clean and out of the way.

The new Mustang and Camaro are FATASS cars. I drove a v6 Camaro rental, and don't get me wrong. It's hands down the fastest thing I've ever driven! (I daily a 00 Focus) but the thing is gargantuan. You can't see out of the sides at all. Switching lanes is frightening. The only way to do it safely is to accelerate hard past the car in front of you, then switch in front of him. That way, you know you won't switch into faster upcoming traffic. I've had a lot of experience driving an 04 mustang v6, and it was much more enjoyable. I bet the same era of Camaro is awesome too.

Tyler Jones I have a '13 mustang. I have no blind spot issues in my car. It was like "woah I can't see out the sides with the rear window louvers" but after the first hour driving it I was good. I actually am more cautious with any sedan or SUV because those blind spots are crazy

@Benjamin Kham Close, but not quite. The engines are similar, but I believe the 4 in this particular Mustang is more powerful by some number. Actually, he does a Speed6 video and the quote that stands out to me is "Damn similar"

BMan100 Just because it got new styling doesn't mean it's trying to be a sports car. Granted, I don't know a whole lot of what got changed in the new Mustang, but I doubt Mustangs are trying to move in on the sports car market.

thinkpol I've driven it...I owned a 2012 GT before the transmission blew...I had a 2012 SRT Challenger.. which I am still kicking my ass about selling.. now I am in a Fusion SE 1.5 turbo...and my 6.4 hemi got better MPG

BMan100 That's really great and all but you didn't mention how Mustangs were trying to be sports cars. I'm really curious as to why you think they are. I can't see them becoming any more than muscle cars.

Im sort of surprised that modern cars still rarely are equipped with light auto off. Instead they make it so you have that annoying sound. Even my 1994 toyota has it and soon as i open the door after taking out my key the lights turn off immediately. But yeah looks like a decent car. Would prefer V8 SC though !

They didn't call these SVO. And they didn't call it the Model E in respect to their first mass produced car. They called it a "Machery" fitting. The mustang is dead. They shot that dead horse too many times
