Interesting bit of info about the part of the game when you get locked in the bathroom and can hear Lisa walking down the hallway and messing with the door: in one of the boundary break videos of the game, they moved the camera outside the bathroom for that scene. A fully animated and detailed model of Lisa *actually does* walk down the hall and stop at the door, which is an amazing detail, since the player is never meant to see outside of the door until after it's unlocked and Lisa vanishes. Also, watching that footage was probably the scariest part of the game for me.

I think the reason I find PT so utterly terrifying is the radio broadcast at the beginning - growing up, there was a girl in my high school class whose stepfather beat her and her mother to death with a hammer, and I still remember the blood-chilling horror I felt that day. The stepfather killed her mother first while she was downstairs and then went to find the daughter who was hiding upstairs, similar to the father in the game. I think that radio broadcast just instantly sets the atmosphere and it's very difficult to shake the feeling of dread after that

I've completed P.T. over a dozen times and thought there was just a single, surefire way of completing that final puzzle. Saw your playthrough and it changed everything! Completely different from what I was used to. So I thought I'd give it another shot tonight and my final solution was different from yours and all of the previous ones I've ever done! Plus, half-way through I got this creepy voice I'd never heard before. Over 7 years on and it still has its surprises.

The ending of PT parallels the most well known experiment regarding superstition, to the stage where I have to wonder if that's what happening. Effectively it's been shown that you can dish out rewards to animals randomly, and this will generally lead to superstitious behaviour in which the subject grows to believe that a certain action or actions they performed lead to the reward. What's interesting is the way things develop after that, when repeating the action they will tend to ignore the times it doesn't work (humans in particular tend to rationalize that they did it wrong, or that some other variable must have changed), but when it does work it only strengthens their belief. This seems to be amplified by human communication, as we may consider the actions of others when discerning the 'cause' of an event. So I have to wonder if the ending of PT is _literally_ random, the reward being dished out is the 'baby laughs' but the game does so entirely randomly. In this case, the clue "I waited for it to pass" is actually a much more literal solution than it seems, if you wait long enough before resetting the loop you will inevitably get the three laughs, but they could be separated by mere seconds, several minutes, or perhaps even longer.

There's also the chance that technically people have correctly identified the triggers, but the game isn't good enough at detecting whether they've been completed correctly, so it's random by mistake, not by design. I know it's a "Kojima game" and all that, but it's just as likely the players are stumbling upon the odd glitch

Honestly the greatness of PT is probably largely due to it's unfinished and unpublished nature. Sure it probably could've been a great game but the impact wouldn't have been on the same level. It's gone beyond great game and attained urban legend status, which for any horror media is the goal.

This game has been out since 2014, a year before Metal Gear Solid V. I knew this was by Kojima, but have never seen the ending scene, nor did I know that this was developed in the Fox Engine. Seems obvious now, but it also reminds me of the terrible fate of the Fox Engine at the hands of Konami. 😢

What sucks the most is it got canned…. It was so phenomenal- just an endless demo(well technically it had an end) Where are you circle the same hallways over and over and little subtle things keep changing as it gets scarier and scarier heightening the tension the whole time

@@turismofoegaming8806 I know the fact the full game was never made, means we have this perfect idealized vision of what it would have been in our heads. BUT... this is easily the most tense, frightening demo that most of us had ever seen. If they had managed to release a full length version of this? My god. Hands down best horror game in history. It is TRAGIC we never got the full release.

@@lisah-p8474 Oh yeah I agree completely! I didn’t even have a PS4 at the time but luckily my best friend had one and me and him both played it quite a bit when it first released… I’ve always said if Santa Hill had better planning marketing and budgeting that they would’ve taken resident evil out or at least Summit Hill would still be around today and probably be leading the survival horror genre race!?

Congratulations Ellen! Like you, I can't handle this kind of game but I'm glad you finished the second Fear Academy with a bang. PS: Now you know that the solution to any Kojima puzzle is to whisper "Jareth". I still don't understand how that worked or how one should know that... 😆
