That opening fill is crazy. He's not just playing 32nd notes (or whatever they are), it's that he intentionally skips a (very important) few that blows my mind.

I'm 8 years late to this, In other tracks I thought to myself Genevieve's voice reminded me the most of Janet Jackson, but a little more raw but still confident , now seeing this cements it further in my brain, and i like brain cement.

I don't think Genevieve could be off key if she tried. I don't think Louis could be off time if he tried. I don't think Knower's music could be less than magnetic if they tried =) thanks Knower!

Well... technically the keyboard IS a percussive instrument. While his keyboarding style isn't exactly conventional, I personally think it's one of the things that makes their music so interesting. I'm so used to predicting exactly where the chord progression will flow, or the patterns of rhythm. He's always interesting and keeps me on my toes. That's one of the many things I like about their music.
@GhostLoops11 жыл бұрын
I must agree with Ryan, absolutely adore their chord progressions and harmonic structures. The compositions and arrangements are too tight to mess with, c'mon!

This track, like all contemporary pop tracks, is an amalgam of all genres that came before it - bebop, R 'n' B, Rock 'n' Roll, EDM - it's all part of the same mix. Just because a tune employs 7ths and 9ths doesn't make it J A Z Z exclusively - harmony is just one component of music..

I believe Louis has studied with Larry Goldings amongst others, and knows *exactly* what he's doing. It's awesome and forward looking with a hat tip to everything that has come before. No mean feat. I think the trajectory they're on is perfect and they shouldn't change that just for the hell of it. I can't wait to see how far they can go down the route they're on.

Guys, I love your stuff, but here is a constructive criticism: If you hooked up with a real keyboardist, who could match Louis' superb chops on the drums, your compositions and arrangements would be a lot stronger. Louis plays keys mostly as a percussion instrument, without a developed sense of chord voicings and progressions. The 2 of you together are good & you have a unique quality, but you could expand and develop what you have with a keyboardist and guitarist/bassist with comparable chops.

Its called a open-hand grip. Dennis Chambers from the Dave Mathews band uses this technique, and he's probably one of the best drummers out there. He uses open hand grip because he is dominantly left handed and dominantly right footed.

I hate to distract from the awesome groove of this cover, but the singer has no emotion at all and for me, ruins the atmosphere of this classic hit. She just says "tenderoni" like it's a typical word. C'mon...

They try to be Dirty Loops but miss the glue and voicing to really make it. Timing is also way behind what DL pulls off.. I'd like to see/hear them do somthing original instead of trying to sound like DL.

I hear you and kinda agree, but his simple playing goes fine with the pop genre of their tunes. These syncopated chords are already enough to give a new flavour to this already great song.
