Great video. I love the explanation of the values on the code reader. I will have to run the reader and write everything down. My car will not start. OBD code reader P0170. Fuel trim Bank 1. I will take plugs out tomorrow. I will get a New air filter.

Hi Suzie Thank you so much! Means a world to me. You should be able to see a freeze frame or something like that on the obd app. What do you use? Your car will not start? Guess there has to be more wrong than just P0170

I opened up my air box and the filter had fallen or been pushed down by the oil change place. Maybe I got dirt in my MAF? I will be renting a fuel pressure tester to make sure I have enough pressure to start car. Fuel pump is in gas tank of course. And I just fueled my car in the morning. 13 gallons. I checked all vacuum hoses too.

Great video thanks , i have a question please , what do you mean by closed loop, does it mean that you took the data values while the car idling ?

Hi Ilyascay, sorry late reply! A closed loop is where the engine operates with a feedback loop. A sensor closes the loop. In open loop, the engine doesn't listen to nobody, it just runs off a set of instructions based on where the throttle is. So you always wants to check the data in closed loop :)

excellent video thank you. I have the P0170 code and was suspecting the front sensor 1. I was told it might be difficult to take it out tho, if I break it, I'd need to get a new manifold, do you agree with that? Can I test it with the meter before taking it out of car? Hope to hear from you, J

Hi BigPicture, thank you so much! Yes you do not want to break it! Some use heat on it before screwing it out / you can also tightening a bit and untightening a bit the bolt, just wiggle it back and forth to see if it gets lose. Hi there. I have a po170 and po173 codes on my Mitsubishi montero limited 2001. The car idles fine .the check engine light has been on for a long time. What would you suggest I do first? Clean MAF sensor? Replace o2 sensors? I have changed the plugs, wires, intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets. I’m just hoping I can figure it out myself since the shops are so expensive.thx for any suggestions

The best video, very well explained, now I have a small idea how the sistems work, I have a petrol 1.4L Peugeot 206 from 2005 A couple of days ago I had AntiPolution Fault and check engine I did an OBD test, removed the fault, the check engine is off, but I still get the code P0170, while the engine is idle and worm My rpms go form 0.8 - 0.7 I can smell some petrol from the exhaust I think as well My O2 S1 shows between 0.1 to 0.8 fluctuating , the O2 S2 is fluctuating between 0.7 - 0.8 I will soon check the other live data to see what I get

I cleared the P0170 code and it didn’t come back If I do Emission tests, it says: Fuel - Fail Catalyst - Fail Oxygen Sensor Fail My live sensors show the following numbers: Short term Fuel % trim - Bank 1: -3.13% Long term Fuel % trim - Bank 1: 7.81% Intake MAP: 37kPa Intake air temperature: 23•C Throttle position: 9.41% Oxygen sensor 1 Bank 1 Voltage: 0.8V Oxygen sensor 1 Bank 1 Short term fuel trim: 3.91% Oxygen sensor 2 Bank 1 Voltage: 0.78V Oxygen sensor 2 Bank 1 Short term fuel trim n/a% Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Changed: -spark plugs -ignition coil -air filter -oil filter -water pump and timing belt

The emiddion test doesn't work on my OBD either! Your trims sounds okay to me. I would check / clean the O2 sensors and mass airflow sensor. Also just check for leaks on the hoses, regarding false air. You do not get an additional error code like: P0171 - System running lean or...

Great video and am sure I have the same engine. EW10A RFJ. I too have a fuel rich 0170 code. It start after I fit a new coil pack and plugs. (To remove the 0392 coil fault) So i fix one fault and now a new fault! Can new spark plugs cause this? If their electrode gap too large?

I connected the diagnostic device to the OBD and noted the results of the 02 sensor 1 bank 1 at a cold start. Here are the results: for the first few minutes on a cold engine, the values ​​will smell from 0.65V to 1.27V for about 2-3 minutes after starting. then they drop and are in the range of 1.15V to 0.4V for the next 3 minutes. After about 10 minutes of engine operation, the values ​​range from 0.9 V to 0.1 V. The corrections for the first minute are about -24%, then after a few minutes they stop and are below 5%. Do I understand correctly that it may be a matter of a damaged heater? it seems that after heating the exhaust, the voltage values ​​are correct, only deviations from the norm are when the engine (the probe is cold) As for the O2 sensor 2 bank 1 values ​​for less than 2 minutes 1.25V - 0.05V. Vacuum leaks and clogged fuel hose are two of the many examples you mentioned will cause lean po171 and po174, not po170 and po171 rich. Of the numerous things you mentioned for causes you forgot to mention the ball-bearing and the thrust washer in the muffler. I'm willing to bet that if this car had a problem, it didn't get fixed for those codes... if it did, it was misfiring from dirty/worn spark plugs.

I love this explanation, but it is very hard for me to find live values. I use obdeleven, I think I over oiled my k&n filter. My car uses two map sensors, I cleaned both. So I assume it would be an o2 sensor. What do you think? I will ofcourse check the live data as far as I can.

Hi Zuid Thank you so much! And sorry for the late reply. Can't you find live data or just reeze frames? Or try OBDMate that I use! Yeah it could be, but still hard to say! Try the OBDMate app, or perhaps just get a mechanic to read out. Did you use MAP cleaner? What error code do you have after cleaning the 2 map sensors?` I love k&n filters :)

@@kruusecarfix I still thankyou for the reply! I am able to find live data, but unfortunately I can't find anything about intake manifold pressure. I also did clean both map sensors with appropriate cleaner, but I think one might be broken now. I also got no error codes left for some reason, but my car keeps stalling or losing power in higher rpms.

You can't find the MAP data? Have you tried OBDMate? Also free app. The MAP sensor data should be around 14.7 psi But the car runs "normal" on lower rpm?

went to the smog with my Honda Civic 98 and everything passed but the only thing that said failed was something to do with “noX” or “nox” idk exactly what that means or what it is but it was 1300 and it’s limit says it’s suppose to be somewhere in the 700 range

Yeah issag35, as I can read out of your message is that you nox level is way to high. Typical a good way to start is check: 1: Lean Fuel Mixture - A lean fuel condition may be due to a vacuum leak/s and/or defective fuel control components, such as the Air Flow Meter, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, and O2 sensors 2: Defective EGR System- By recirculating exhaust gas back into the intake, a small amount of the air/fuel mixture is replaced with inert gas, reducing combustion temperatures. PErhaps clean that. 3: Defective Catalytic Converter - Hopeful not because it's expensive! If you have run rich for a while the unburned fuel can damage the CAT

Hey Emil Thank you so much! 1: For the OBD scanner I'm using an Autophix 3210, as I remember I bought it in Thansen :) You can also find a good one on amazon / alixpress etc. But of course the best one is the Bluedriver OBD scanner, especially for those who live in the US (It can provide solutions / track more / etc.) 2: And for the OBD software I'm using the free OBDMate. Works great with a lot of things you can do, reset error codes / see freeze frames / check a lot etc.

I am having that code po170. On Kia Soul 2010 2.0L. That has 2 o2 sensors. Evidently I will be testing the front sensor. Runs good until engine has warmed up then problems with Rpms up and down. Hopefully that’s the remedy. Thank you

Hello, I have an Opel Astra 2.0T with the Z20let engine. Every few days I get the error P0170 and yesterday I got p0301, temporarily running out of a cylinder. I have the torque pro to see values. What things can I look at?

Hi Antovio So sorry for the late reply! I didn't see your question. Yeah p0301 is misfire on cylinder 1. Guess it's a problem with spark plug or the ignition coil :) See my video on car misfire: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6LPiGBpbJZlnpY You should fix the p0301, perhaps just that is the problem! The O2 sensor will have a false reading of running rich if the spark plug or the ignition coil is not working properly. Best regards Christian

Don't have any vacuum leak but same trouble continue. Also don't have maf sensor in this cars. It has map sensor. I checked that is clean.

I've had a P0170 code fuel trim, it started with revs being inconsistent at idle. Thoughts were misfire as the exhaust sounded like it, so I checked the plugs, they were coated, replaced with new, replaced coil pack, done a service cleaned out throttle body, all hoses clean, air, oil, oil change, m.a.f sensor change, still does it... In fact i drove it around the block, engine cut out 3 times.. I'm thinking it's possibly a crankshaft sensor.. any advice appreciated.

have the same code on my astra g 1.6 cabrio. i changed MAF recently but the problem persists. check engine light will be open some days but close some others. Some days the car drives ok but some others feels weird and week and 1st and 2nd gear trembles. I had the ECU checked but they tell me is fine.. Any advise?

@@johnabatzis7824 Ohh yes it can be a clogged converter, and it's unfortunately expensive! But you didn't get a P0420 code!? Remember all tests on warm engine! 1: You can check your live data on O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 voltage AND bank 1 sensor 2 voltage. (B1S2 should be steady around 0.5V otherwise could be the Cat!!! - B1S1 should fluctuate (0.2-0.8V) I know that I have a low B1S2 in my case but that is due to the faulty B1S1. 2: Check temperature before and after Cat - Temperature should be higher after cat than before Cat. 3: You can also either remove the catalytic converter or bank 1 sensor 1 to see if the car runs better. 4: I know that you also can check pressure before and after the Cat, but yeah try the other things! And remember some of the things it also still can be is: 1: Intake air leak! Check your hoses with soapwater. 2: Dirty air filter! Yes, could just be that! Do you have an aftermarket air filter on? 3: Faulty front heated oxygen sensor - Check with your OBD scanner 4: Ignition misfire - Unlikely 5: Faulty fuel injectors - Unlikely 6: Exhaust leaks - Unlikely 7: Incorrect fuel presure - Unlikely 8: Lack of fuel - Unlikely 9: Mass air flow - Unlikely, you changed that :) Best regards

Hello, What app that you are using for scanning your peugeot using your handphone? I have peugeot 807 2004 EW10J4 engine. It has "anti pollution fault" message on MID and I don't know what cause it. The rpm unstable if in idle. I already replace the throttle body, ignition spark, and coil. But the symptom are the same. Unstable rpm when idling. Thank you for your answer

Hi Teguh, I'm using the OBDMate, it's a free and great app. Both to iPhone and Android. Can do a lot of things like freeze frame / live data / Diagnostic / CLEAR CODES / IM readiness / Battery check / error code look up / and a tons of other things like EVAP / Transmission / performance test for some cars (not yours). I'm sorry to hear that! Also now that you have changed some of the things. Can you with a OBD scanner give more info / data? Is it only unstable rpm when idling? 1: Could be fuel pressure regulator 2: Check for air leaks (hoses / plastic cases / etc.). False air means a lot when idle, but not as much on higher rpm. 3: Wiring loom faults - Check the wiring at the pressure sensor and regulator for shorting But first thing is it only unstable rpm when idling? :)

@@bagoos95 Perfect, great, do that! Remember important clue and thing you already know / have now is that you have fuel! You get power when you put the pedal to the metal! So it's proporly not a clocked fuel filter, fuel leak, fuel injectors, etc. 1: Could be air leaks. False air means a lot when idle, but not as much on higher rpm. 2: A sensor / EGR valve / etc. Like in my case it was an O2 sensor. It is a diesel engine, right? Check and clean your EGR valve. And of course it can also be other things.

According to them, they feel the car is more responsive and colder engine temperature. And the most important thing is there is no "APF" error on MID. What do you think? FYI, we live in Indonesia that there is no emission regulation yet.

@@bagoos95 Hi :) Not sure I completely understand you :) But yeah you can put an EGR blanking plate on the EGR valve, that will make sure you don't get any slug, dirt and unburn fuel into the manifold :) That will definitely make the engine cooler, because hot exhaust will not reenter the manifold and engine! But I don't think it will solve the problem, but I can be wrong! :) The EGR valve is also used for the engine when it's cold, to reintroduce hot air to it. And of course to reduce pollution by lowering the O2 level in combustion! In cold climate like here in Denmark, the engine runs better, when it's started / cold start, if it gets hot air from exhaust :) When the engine and CAT are in good operating temperature after a few minutes running, the EGR valve will close by ifself. Would love to see Indonesia in the future :)

Hi. Need help please!! First try to understand some words I use because I don't know the exact car terms. The car is opel corsa 2004 1.2 c. (Gasoline.) I had the same. When drive with middle gas pedal was good. But when go all of it the check engine light was on. Or when the light of fuel low was on, had it. I have the p0170 error. Plus a p0300 & p0302. Stared long a go. First change 4 sparks and for 2-3 days was ok maybe not because I was not stress the car after. The problem stays so I try to find out Then go to mechanic and looked the sparks again the multiplayer and "pipes" (hose) of sparks was ok. Then the injection system was ok too. Then change the fuel pump. The fuel in a gas station must not good so the pump the filter next to pump and the pump inside was full of small iron grains which sparkle in light. The gas filter out of tank was black and full of dirt.... put a new one Inside the pump was not work freely but working anyway. We check fuel hose from tank to engine there was dirt but clean them. Check the pump wires and clips again because problem stays After all these parts we checked - change .... the car is working much better but the light check engine is still there some times. Before go to mecanic I saw your video so know what to check. The mechanic says after he looked and the computer of car.. that the engine works in the borders (gets 24 % of gas but not understand him much) but he can't understand the other 2 errors p0300 which is multiple misfire engine And p0302 misfire on cylinder 2 after check the plugs, multiplier and injectors. Also change places of sparks multiplayers pipes, hose... Do you have any suggestions? Need more clues? We did not check air filter or maf or O2 sensor or anything involving with the air of the car. Hi Dimitris Okay so you can drive with middle gas! That is good. Yeah p0300 should be regarding misfire in the engine! And P0302 more specific on cylinder 2. Have you checked the ignition coil? Doesn't think it is the fuel pump, could perhaps be some clocked fuel injector!? Absolutely check / clean the MAF sensor and test the O2 sensor with a multimeter! Air filter is easy to check so clean that as well! Best regards Christian Can you use this?

@@kruusecarfix Thanks for responding I think after cleaning the air filter with vacuum cleaner and then clean the maf like you said .... now the car runs better than before. With no troubles. But I m not sour yet. The check engine lamp is not on when i press the car like before, maybe I mast replace the air filter with a new one. And there is no error on computer when check. Thanks again.

@@TheDimitsi That is so great to hear! :) You can also try start the engine without the airfilter, just in your driveway without driving it to the street to see if that helps / it's clocked. And yes the MAF sensor is always good to clean :) Please share with me in a few weeks if it's still driving good! Great!

@@kruusecarfix Hi again. The problem is still there. P0170 stopped when diagnostic but now p0300 and p0302 is still there. I use the pedals check. After check everything except o2 sensor, ( coils, sparks, pump, air filter, clean maf, ) the lamp check engine when pressing the gas pedal all the way is still there. And it's not always the same. Some times is on with less gas others with more. Some times never and works good. But I m sending you again because a new problem start. The car as so far as I can see when the temperature rise to 90 c and the ventilator mast start to cool the engine then the car is turning off for 30 sec. Then start again!!! With no problem. But when the vending mast off then is off again and start after few sec. The ventilator and fan when start or off the engine is off for few sec but start after a while. Never before the temperature rise to 90o c until now. And always work in winter to 83o and summer 87o. Never 90o unless in big traffic some times. Do you think is because the oil in engine is very thin so I must change it with new? So the temperature not rise so up?

@@kruusecarfix The new problem With the engine turn off after few kilometers and then start again after 1 or 2 min. is not because the ventilator mast start in 90 degrees C. or when stopped. I check again and it's not that. I dont know what's the problem. Now I have 2 issues. P0300- p0302 and the engine is stop after few miles. Very frustrating when y dont know how to fix. Any idea's? Please help. The only think I did not check so far is O2 sensor. I will shock tomorow.

Hi Rahim Have you seen the video and what I suggest? First you should: 1: You can check your live data on O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 voltage AND bank 1 sensor 2 voltage. (B1S2 should be steady around 0.5V otherwise could be the Cat!!! - B1S1 should fluctuate (0.2-0.8V) I know that I have a low B1S2 in my case but that is due to the faulty B1S1. 2: Check temperature before and after Cat - Temperature should be higher after cat than before Cat. 3: You can also either remove the catalytic converter or bank 1 sensor 1 to see if the car runs better. 4: I know that you also can check pressure before and after the Cat, but yeah try the other things! Remember all tests on warm engine! And remember some of the things it also still can be is: 1: Intake air leak! Check your hoses with soapwater. 2: Dirty air filter! Yes, could just be that! Do you have an aftermarket air filter on? 3: Faulty front heated oxygen sensor - Check with your OBD scanner 4: Ignition misfire - Unlikely 5: Faulty fuel injectors - Unlikely 6: Exhaust leaks - Unlikely 7: Incorrect fuel presure - Unlikely 8: Lack of fuel - Unlikely 9: Mass air flow - Unlikely, you changed that :) Best regards

@@rahimameti694 Hi, yes that could very well be the problem. Both of them! I actually bought 4 new sparkplugs because they are relative inexpensive. You can rent or buy a gate that can measure the pressure in the fuelline, or you can try replace the fuel filter. (If you typical drive the car almost empty or live a place with comtamination in the fuel it is a good option to do). You can also get someone to turn the ignition in the car (not start it just turn the ignition on) and under the backseats you can try to listen to the fuel pump. (It should start spinning / pump when you turn the key on. Again if you don't have a clue, try start with the things that are cheap / relative inexpensive to buy.

I have this error on the same peugeot 407 2.2 gasoline engine. The engine doesn't rev more than 3500 rpm and have a tremendous loss of power(my combo 1.7 sdi with 60 hp has more power:)). Any idea what it can be?

Hi Rafail18 It could perhaps be: 1: Lack of gasoline? Clogged filter / pipes. The gaspump not working properly? 2: Check timing. If you've jump a tooth your car will limp. 3: Blown headgasket between cylinders would cause to lose compression. 4: Blocked cat / Check your CAT. Try to undo / disassemble the header from the cat and rev the car up! 5: Check all the connections on the wires of your distributor. 6: Bad injector 7: Stuck open EGR. Could also indicate that it's running in limp mode, but normally it's around 2000 rpm. Check the ecu for codes, do you have any error codes? Can you tell me more about the car - Is it both in cold / warm, is it just started, do you have some live data from OBD scanner?

@@kruusecarfix some errors are there like P0170, P0105. There were some errors related to the secondary air pump(changed the pump and the errors don't come anymore). It definitly runs in limp mode because if I turn the engine off and than on it runs fine a few seconds, sometimes also revs up to 4000 rpm but then it feels like the gas flow is cut and rpm drops up to 3500rpm and then downward until 3000rpm and then maybe comes the check engine light and it barely runs.

​@@rafail18 That sounds like an absolute pressure sensor / MAP sensor, with the P0105 error. Have you checked that? Also check the wires, and if you have vacuum hose disconnected or plugged. And you of course doesn't have any air leaks right? It could also (let us not hope) be the ECU! For me it doesn't sound like a problem with the fuel system / fuel flow, something just cuts the fuel. So far so good I hope :)

@@kruusecarfixthe error for the MAP is intermitent. I cleaned the sensor though it was not the case. It ran a little better but in the end still enters the limp mode. If I drive the car only in the city and without hills and without rev it more than 3000rpm it...runs. If I have to drive on a hill, it barely climbs the top, and when on downhill it passes above 3500rpm then appears the check engine light and it drives no more, I have to turn the engine off and then works just fine.

Sorry for the very late reply! Did you manage to fix it? P0117 is the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, and could as I remember be the reason why you get the P0170

Im driving daily about 100-120km everyday. no issues while driving except last 3 days i noticed sometimes missfiring guess. after gear change if i give it full gas sometimes it has no power and need some time to accelerate as fast as before . i have changed fuel pump with cheap aftermarket. one. but i think ita working well . tomorrow ill attach here ALL obd2 data and screenshots all i have . i think its oxygen sensor and some of bad spark plugs. btw in OBd2app i saw that OXYGEN SENSOR and Catalyst NOT PASSED.. should i think about bad batterry?. it was dead a month ago and i charged it . CAN obd2 check battery life?.

Hi @@Gio200125 first thing first :) 1: Have you looked P1300 up? It could hopefully be a throttle/pedal position sensor! Or bad ignition coil / power to the ignition coil / Ignition Coil harness is open or shorted / Ignition Coil circuit poor electrical connection. 2: Doesn't sounds like air or fuel problem! 3: The O2 sensor and CAT can be in good shape, but just get wrong values, and that's why they fail. You can test the O2 sensor as I did like in the video if you have a multimeter. Time in video 14:00 4: How long ago did you change the spark plugs? Have you seen they? Like in video at 7:50 - But if you get missfire and then power it doesn't sounds like failty spark plugs! 5: Yes please send and I will take a look! We will solve this :)
