This is easily the best video I have ever seen. It perfectly explains the relationship between fuel trims, and o2 sensors, fuel supply, air and vacuum. I just went through my truck chasing a no code misfire and very bad fuel trims. I found a point where my fuel psi would completely drop to zero and spike back up. I found my ACDelco fuel pump purchased one year ago that only has 6k miles on it has a low fuel pressure with random drops. Wiring between the fuel pump control module look better than they should for their age. 😂. Voltage to pump is strong and constant. Now I am waiting for my warranty replacement and trying to burn up all the fuel in the tank. At least when I was in there last, I replaced all the fuel lines. I am going to inspect the wiring very closely when I get that tank dropped. I have heard that can be a problem point for gm trucks. Great video!!!

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Oh oh, I was on my way home and thinking about what you had discussed in this video. Short term fuel trims were pretty good but long term wher 14 and 11. I gave it some gas and the long term fuel trims dropped quickly. As soon as I got to a stop light the long term fuel trims jumped. It seems I must have a vacuum leak. At least I have a direction I can look into my next day off. Looks like I am going to use a fluid transferring pump and a cigar and hopefully find my leak. Thank you so much for the video, it taught me a new trick and just may of helped me fix my truck. 🙏😂

First time visiting your channel. You hit some key components that I really like: * You looked at FF data. This helps tremendously. * You suggest OEM. Cannot tell you how many times I (and iatn members) have bashed my head against the wall on a problem due to aftermarket parts. One thing that would be very nice, is to put down a final fix. Yes, your fuel delivery is low, and most likely a fuel pump, but until this repair is completed we do not know for sure. It's like me waving a magic chicken bone at a Cadillac w/ cam codes and say that it is a stretched timing chain. Honestly, I thought for sure it was going to be defective injectors as this ( and MAF sensor) is the main cause of this code off idle.

When you run into this issue after you fixed the vacuum leak the catalyst can be plugged up in the exhaust also and that can cause the same symptoms as a low fuel pressure problem the car will start and idle fine but stumble and fall on its face when you try to accelerate you can easily check this with a simple vacuum gauge that also has a low fuel pressure gauge on it too when you rev the engine you will get a small increase in vacuum but then it will reverse and go towards a pressure on the intake this is the exhaust gases backing up inside the engine due to the pipes being plugged up at the catalytic converter Id definitely still check the fuel filter and fuel pressure and volume first though.
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair6 ай бұрын
@Bill-wz6tw Good Point! I agree with you!
@spelunkerd5 ай бұрын
That's a good point, in the case where fuel trim is not giving direction. It's a blind spot for the PCM because exhaust pressure is not monitored (much like EGR problems). In this case, the clearly lean condition pointed elsewhere.

This is wonderful. I'm greatly impressed. Diagnosis made easy. I have a 2008 BMW 535i which I have been battling with lean code bank 2. Funny enough the LTFT is high both on banks 1 and 2. But it only reports code for bank 2. Fuel trim doesn't get better with increasing RPM. Fuel pressure on scan tool is normal at idle. What am I possibly dealing with. I have ruled out vacuum leak with a smoke machine. Your big fan from Nigeria

Fuel Volume Testing is Great , however ; absolutely unnecessary . With Long Term Fuel Trims pegged @ 35 % - the Vehicles Computer is telling me that it had to Add 35 % of Fuel to bring the Vehicle back to 14.7 % Air & 1 % Fuel - I woulda connected a Fuel Pressure Gauge within 5 minutes after the Book told me the Fuel Pressure Specs. for this Vehicle or ANY vehicle. Having + 35% means there is not the proper amount of fuel in the combustión chamber when he increases the rpm to 3,500 and I see those numbers I would have gone for maf sensoe not fuel , since from 600 RPM to 3,000 rpm you never change the Inyección pulse at all with no loads how the fuel pressure can afecct when you did not demand for Inyección pulse ?0@cbarkwell1000

Good Diagnostic. I find the U.S. version of this Toyota usually has a seperate fuel filter ( in addition to the in tank filter on the pump ). The seperate filter is very poor quality and plugs up easily and may be why the pumps fail. Pretty common here. I replace the filter with a better non-toyota part. Of course new pump also.... Note: this version may not have the seperate filter.

Don't assume the problem is the fuel pump it could be a pinched line or a plugged fuel filter or inlet screen also remember pumps don't create fuel pressure they only create flow pressure is created by a restriction in the system anywhere along the path of this flow changing the pump may fix it but you shouldn't be so fast to just jump to that conclusion

Awesome! I hope you can help me. My mechanics in New Jersey can't explain why my car has a lean condition. I've even taken my car to the Nissan dealership, and they couldn't help me. I emailed you some hours ago today. I hope I can reach you. Please help me.

Why did your A/F wideband sensor remain at near zero amps while the downstream Oxygen sensor accurately read a rich reading? The wideband A/F sensor should have read positive mAmps if in a lean condition but it did not. In fact, the wideband A/F sensor was fairly unresponsive. A bad fuel pump should have given a lean reading on the upstream A/F sensor (positive milliamps) if the fuel quantity was inadequate. I bet this vehicle comes back next week with the same complaint.
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair6 ай бұрын
@fowvee No! you are wrong this vehicle is fixed and customer is happy after the fuel pump assembly was replaced, Some wideband sensor read reverse polarity, negative numbers don't always mean lean condition! Be careful my friend!!
@fowvee6 ай бұрын
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Thanks for the reply. With wideband sensors a lean condition will actually give a postive milliamp reading. But, if you say it's fixed then you would know best. Thanks again.

I notice that at 3500 rpm the afr sensor doesn't see the mixture or am I doing something wrong? I mean it doesn't go rich like the rear 02 sensor....while when you press the brake it goes to lean, so he didn't see the mixture from the bad fuel pressure?
@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair6 ай бұрын
@dimisrambodimisrambo7285 The 02 sensor were a bit slow in reporting the oxygen content in the exhaust stream, they weren't warn enough!
