P0456 is a Bastard

I learned from your video that it has to check it over a period of run times. Good to know in the future. I knew the tailpipe emissions has this, but didn't think the evap system did. The evap system is such a government boondoggle.

And my understanding is that it is measuring the minutest of pressure / vacuum leaks which makes it incredibly difficult to find even with a smoker. You can reset the codes but after several self checks if it finds a problem it will flash the code again.

Mine was leaking at a cracked plastic fitting on top of the gastank like you showed in the video. Except it was on the opposite side of the "rollover valve". Passenger side. Line that runs from front to rear of tank. These are too short from factory and place too much tension on the plastic nipple. Fixed mine with a sleeve---a 3/16 brakeline and some jb weld. Worked great and haven t seen code in over 500 miles. Been living with the CEL nonstop for about a year and half. It had been tormenting me for awhile. It is due for emmisions beginning of next year and i had to fix it. Glad i found it.

Yep, had this same code 3 times. 1st time it was leak detection pump, code gone for 6 months but then came back, I then replaced purge valve, code gone for 3 months but then came back again. I ignored it for awhile but read that everyone says use Mopar only for parts, I recalled I used a cheap purge valve so bought a mopar one, replaced it and code has been gone for a year now! These things sure are finicky and always have some BS wrong with them but hey love my Jeep!

Went though this last year with the wife's JK . I changed out a couple vacuum hoses , no luck , I changed the purge valve ( Napa also ) no luck , Took to dealer they replaced the leak detection pump, no luck. I then replaced the EVAP canister and would you know it , It fixed the problem. I hat ,hate ,hate that code because it will have you chasing your tail. Oh, almost forgot , I changed the gas cap also. Don't forget to check the throttle shaft on the throttle body. This where my initial leak was on the TJ, and throttle bodies are all nearly the same. I now have a BBK. I eventually found the leak point on the vapor canister due to screw from the previous owner for the passenger side taillight. Plugged it, reset the code and all is well now-------finally.

If it don't affect power, smoothness, or gas mileage then who cares about it??

Because if you live in an area where you have to do emissions testing prior to vehicle registration it will affect you. A vehicle going through emissions testing with an emissions code present like p0456 will fail and need to be repaired before it can be registered.
