- diverse classes, not diverse individuals - top schools like to talk about how diverse they are - colleges are looking for those with unique experiences - communicate those experiences with maturity and new insights - collect unique experiences - diverse classes -> specialized individuals, not diverse individuals - focus on one topic and do ecs that are related - jack of all trades master of none - make 1st edge more unique, add a 2nd edge - narrow down 1st edge (medicine -> debilitating memory disorders) - hone in on 2nd edge (art -> stop motion animation) - combine: eg. create educational videos with stop motion on people with debilitating memory disorders, or partner with a nonprofit to create advertisements to raise money

Schools are more interested in diverse classes than diverse students, they want specialized students that have unique experiences. They also want to have the students to study under different topics that still end up relating to each other ( for example Science + Art or whatever good combo exists )

This confirmed a lot of what I was already thinking. I wanna build up a studio art portfolio based off the theme of "reflections" and also go into somewhere in Chem. Now if only I can pick a focus.........

you could connect your art portfolio to your interest in chem maybe?

Main takeaway: colleges are looking for diverse classes, not diverse individuals. Colleges like bragging about diversity, looking/having kids with unique experiences, and want classes made up of specialized individuals (specialized means that the activities they do relate to each other, are specific, and have awards from doing these activities). the double edge method is making the first edge more unique, and then adding a second edge to combine with the first.

Hi Kevin, came across your videos today, I'm glad that i did. You're a really interesting person. Continue to spread positivity and impact. Hope your hardwork pays of many times more in the coming years. God bless you brother. Take care , stay blessed and be a blessing to others. A random thing I'd like to say is that, i wouldn't be surprised to see you become a popular media personality or try something in entertainment too if you wish too. And also you remind me of dany kim from dkdtv KZbin channel. 😄

I love reading all your posts! Thank you for sharing this valuable information! This post reminded me of Sarah Lawrence College, where it seemed like virtually everyone possessed double-edged gifts. Mine happened to be non academic. It was daunting. I was extremely insecure and totally unprepared for college. I hated jr. high, and tanked in high school. Back in the mid '70s, it was much easier to get into any college. I never envisioned myself ever becoming a teacher, but ironically became one twenty years ago. While not impossible, I'm sure it's much harder for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, socio-economic disadvantage, and/or a host of other challenges to get into a top university. As a public school special ed. middle school teacher, academics can be especially disempowering for hardworking students with poor working memory and/or visual-motor integration deficits. I will share your strategies with my students. Having a plan is key! Wishing you much happiness, good health, and continued success in all your endeavors!

Colleges wants to construct diverse classes, not diverse individuals. There should be consistency among your extracurriculars. It is a good idea to have your own specialization.

As someone who, as Kevin put it, had been running around like a chicken with their head cut off all throughout middle school, this advice is easier said than done. However, the unique, double-edged twist makes it possible for someone like me not to have to give up all my interests, instead figure out how they can connect to each other.

Try to focus on a few activities that relate to one topic rather than spending a ton of time on a lot of activities that don't relate to each other.
